Buying ammo at Wallyworld!!!

We have that wonderful FOID card in IL.

Last Friday, I walked up to the gun counter at Wally World, and OMG, they had more than 2 boxes of Federal .22 value-packs.

Employee comes up.

"Can I help you."

"Yeah, I need some ammo."

"What kind?"

"Federal .22 value packs"

He pulls one off the shelf.

"I'll take about seven more."

"You gonna do some shootin'?"

I felt like I should be a smart alec like in the Blue Collar Comedy Tour: Naw, I just like to chew on them instead of toothpicks.

But I was nice and told him that the Guns Save Life Fun Shoot was that Sunday. "Oh, that's cool."

The especially irritating part of the transaction was the computer on the register making that annoying tone and telling the operator to check my FOID card after every box.

Thank the good Lord the guy had enough common sense not to do so after the first time.

I've finally narrowed down which one of the four or five Walmarts in my area is best for ammo purchases. It's right on my way to the range. I park near the garden shop entrance, the sporting goods section is only a little ways inside the main store from the garden shop, there's almost always a clerk there and they seem to be basically familiar with what ammo they stock and they have a decent selection, at least for my general handgun needs. I make my purchase and exit the way I came in. No usual Walmart crowd of people who have trouble operating a shopping cart, and no waiting in long lines at the main checkout. Usually in and out, including parking, in less than 10 minutes.

I made my first wally world amoo purchase about 3 weeks ago - I went to Simi Valley in Southern Cal. because LA City wally worlds won't sell ammo.

Anyway, I asked for the price on winchester white box .40 the 100rnd size - said hmmm I'll take 5 boxes and the clerk asked me - you want to buy a case?

They had a couple cases on the floor behind the sporting goods counter - 5 100 rnd boxes in a case.

No problems at all. Price was $16.98 per 100 rnd box.

My last Ammo Day purchase at Wal-Mart was almost the polar opposite of the thread starter's.

Poor Overworked Wal-Mart Lackey: Hello, how may I help you?
Me: I would like a case of your WWB 115gr 9mm please.
POWML: [looking] Um.. Only 8 boxes here...
Me: Then I guess I would like 8 boxes your WWB 115gr 9mm please.
POWML: ...but I think there's a case in the back, do you mind waiting a minute?
Me: [Blink] Uh, yeah, I mean no, that'd be fine.
POWML: [takes off, is gone WAY too long. I hear "Can I get a member of management to the security room" about 3 times over the PA system]
POWML: [finally returning with a case] Here you are sir. Sorry it took so long, I couldn't get the manager to come unlock the cage, he was tied up at the front of the store. You can pay for it here, or you can pay for it at the front if you have other shopping to do.
Me: No, this is all I want right now. [pulling cash out of pocket]
POWML: That'll be $bignum dollars. [rings up purchase, bags ammo] Thankyoufor[etc...]

If it weren't for the long wait for a manager, It would have been nearly perfect.

I asked a clerk at Wally World once, "Do you carry 9x18 mm ammo?" She replied, "No Sir, we don't."

I asked a clerk in a gun store once, "Do you carry 9x18 mm ammo?" He replied, "No, we sure don't, but we've got .380. It's about the same, and will work just as well."

Which would you rather deal with?

By the way. Someone was talking about buying all the 9mm a Wally World had in stock. I did something similar one time before a bass tournament. Wally Wold sold this particular brand and color of plastic worm that you could only get from Wal-Mart. The fish were hot on this one particular plastic worm for some reason, or at least I and everyone in my bass club though they were. So my wife and I went around to every Wal-Mart store in the area and stripped the shelves of those worms to keep anyone else in my club from getting them. :neener: I think it was about 70 bags at .99 cents each.

I asked one clerk, "You got any more of these?" as I put ten bags up on the counter.

He looked at me and said "How many do you want?"

I replied "All you got."

He said, "Suppose I got 100 bags?"

I said, "Then I want 100 bags."

He sighed and said, "Well really that's all we got, I just wondered."

I've still got some of those plastic worms in my boat. :what:

"Their right on top of the other ones..."
"Uhhh.....these ones?"
"Yep."
"You will have to pay for 'em back here or else ....they might....the rules...ya' know?"

My walmart experience

To the guy behind the gun/knife counter.
Me: Umm, I need some 12ga rifled slugs 2-3/4" please. I see you can't get them on the shelf anymore.
Clerk: Yeah, cause it aint deer season now, so they are back behind the counter. How many you need?
Me: I'll take a couple of the 15-round boxes.
Clerk: Here you go. (Sets them on the counter).
Me: Thanks. Bye.
Clerk: Whoa, whoa whoa. You can't take those!
Me: -blink-
Clerk: You gotta pay back her because I got them from behind the counter.
Me: Three months a year these are stacked up halfway to the ceiling on the shelves!
Clerk: Don't matter. If it comes from behind the counter, you gotta pay here.
Me: grumble, gumble

Not so exciting of a story I guess.

I got a better one from Lowes.
I pick out a color for my bathroom from the color cards and bring it over to the paint section:

Me: :) I need a half-gallon of your best moisture-resistant bathroom paint in this color, please.
Paint girl:  Oh, I'm sorry. . . We don't sell paint by the half-gallon, we only sell gallons and quarts.
Me: :uhoh: Well, can I have two quarts then?
Paint girl: :D Sure, I can do that!

My Walli World experiences vary...

If the nice little old lady is working that day, she simply asks me how many of what caliber for rifles, and if pistol ammo how many target boxes and how many defensive boxes:cool: ! If she's not there though, I have to go through the usual run around. Which usually end up with me saying would you like me to come back there and get it for you:evil: ! Which one employee actually let me do:D !!!!! Being a regular does have some perks, lol:p ...

I buy all of my practice ammo from Wall Mart. I have not had any problems, once I found an employee. They use to not carry enough and were out alot of the time. Now they seem to have it all of the time. The last time was rather funny. I walk up to the Male about 25 yo clerk and asked for two boxes of .40 SW. He reached for them and asked in a nice way would I like to pay here or up front. I said up front. He said Ok you look like you are not " packing" and handed them to me. I wanted to just say something. But I just turned and walked away patting my Kahr K-40 on my hip and smiled and chuckied to myself. ;)
