Walmart Ammo

20 or 30 minutes for someone even after they called on the intercom system for someone to come and help. Why does walmart do this to it's customers?

I pick up the intercom. Sometimes I go behind the counter. [they don't like that].And once my dad was tired of waiting so he started punching the keys on the register.
you guys sound like the pain in the Arse customers i had to deal with when i was working in retail. sometimes employees remember the customers that are rude or annoying and decide to help the little lady carry stuff before they help you out. Wal-mart is big corp but the employees are just local citizens trying to earn a buck and some customers forget that.
going behind the counter and punching keys or making your own announce'n is childish. grow up. you may think its witty but its not, its embarrasing. 30 min and you can have pretty much what ever caliber ammo you want is pretty good, in fact if thats your worst problem you are doing pretty good. complaining about waiting 30 min and then say order online and wait days if not weeks is pretty comical.
We live in a pretty convenient society enjoy it dont get all razzled if you dont get EXACTLY what you want in minutes.

Wow, how short our memories are. It wasn't so long ago that finding ammo at Walmart (or anywhere for that matter) was a real treat.

Cant say I have run into that at my Walmart, they are very customer oriented. I get treated very good there. I actually know a lot of the workers by name, since I see them often, which I think helps.

My Walmart has had a Very good selection of ammo lately.

@mini30

K-Mart stopped selling guns & ammo when that M Moore guy picketed K-Mart stores with
his anti-gun crowd.
Does it take a genius to fill out 4473 papers for the goverment ?

People buy at walmart because customer service at real gun stores tends to be a novelty. Sure, there's exceptions, but I think we've all seen this complaint more than once around here. I like supporting the little guy too, but they don't exactly invest in personal loyalty.

All things being equal, if you're going to get attitude, you might as go somewhere where you'll get it cheaper.

The scary part is if the "SHTF" or whatever actually happens and people are waiting in line to buy bread, imagine the "gentlemen" who goes behind the counter and clicks keyboards because he had to wait 20 min for his 22lr bullets.

@Howard J: You wouldn't think so. But when I did work retail in ME, with 6-8 gun floor employees per day, the FFL holder would call one of us back to the gun vault (his office) at least 4-5 times a week for errors. And that was with a policy of co-worker review & double-check of each form. We did approx 50transfers a day on average for the days I worked. That FFL holder is where I got the datum on $2K fine per error.

The thread from northeastshooters.com (back in '07?) did have a few big-box store workers citing their employers in MA & CT stopped selling firearms as individual store financial decisions, not some broader corporate policy. Cost to obtain an employee willing to get an FFL; the effort to maintain the license in the face of fines & renewal fees; and the difficulty in maintaining a high-turnover, low-pay, gun-competent salesfloor workforce were all mentioned as factors.

@Lobo9er: Isn't there a list somewhere called the 10 ugly truths about customers?

Make no mistake, everything Walmart does has everything to do with profit.
Agreed. As long as the store is making a profit on that line of goods, the guns & ammo will be there. If it isn't, they're gone. No conspiracy, no M. Moore campaign, just profit.

So, if you stop buying it, they will gladly quit stocking it, and put that space to use for better-selling goods.

The gun stores nearest to me have high prices and poor selection. The people who work there have attitude problems. They don't get my business.

Of the two Walmarts near me, one doesn't carry gun stuff and is a veritable zoo. The other carries muzzleloaders, and has an okay selection on ammo at decent prices. I don't mind stopping in there when I'm in that neighborhood.
The two Dick's are hit-or-miss on handgun ammo, but it's usually okay. Shotgun ammo is always at a decent price. I don't check rifle ammo there too often.

Personally, I thought WalMart quit selling Guns & ammo because of the high crime rate
in Wayne county---but I guess $ is King.
K-Mart did quit because of M Moore----it was a shame--they had great prices on guns &
ammo.

I have 4 walmarts within 15 miles of me.

3 of them have poor selection and frequent stockouts. One, however, has the gun counter being run by a "Gun guy" and he pretty much always has several boxes (minimum) of whatever you might be looking for, he's always close at hand, and a nice guy to boot. I asked once, and he said he just hounds the GM to make sure he keeps the shelves full.

It's not about the company. Individual employees can make or break a store.

He told me, the only reason they do that, is so someone doesn't change their mind about purchasing it, and set it down in some random part of the store where it doesn't belong.

I've worked retail and I can tell you this is pretty much a common occurrence. People pick stuff up and then just dump it wherever they feel like it. They take milk out of the coolers and then just decide they don't want it and stuff it on a shelf....obviously 30 minutes or so out of the cooler and it is no good anymore.

I was once doing resets for an outside company in K-Marts around the State and found a full box of .357 ammo. It was a brand they didn't even sell at K-Mart too. In fact that store might not have even sold handgun ammo

TO HELL WITH WALLMART they are ruining america ,and sell china crap.

I dont go there...for ANYTHING. plus now they have TV's with HOMELAnD security messages, asking you to spy on other customers....hell with that. im not being watched and treated like a "suspicious" person or criminal. i wish everyone would boycott wallmart, the USA would be a better place. I think soon people will realize all this and just how bad it is to buy china made BS.

And when did that become a bad thing?

If you want to give you money to the local shops - good on ya mate. They are in the business for profit too.

I don't know about you guys but I'll tell you I'm inandout of W Mart alot faster than the LGS. W Mart is what it is. If you don't like what it is, take yor fussy butt down the road, RIGHT NOW! Sheesh, what a bunch of prima donnas. I get on the intercom, I click on the cash register, I demand service, right now, etc. Somebody pulling stunts like that in my store would leave with nothing and be glad nothing was all they got.

And when did that become a bad thing?
Who said or implied it was a bad thing? It is not. It just shouldn't be the only thing and the American way of life should not be sold to the lowest bidder. A wise man once said, "the problem is not taking everything into account, it is the people who take nothing into account".

I guess this is where we ask where the shirt and pants you're wearing at this very moment were made.

With 3-hungry teenage mouths to feed we find ourselves in wally-world for our groceries, mainly because it would cost us $250 more=per-month to feed my babies,, (really cuts into the shooting budget) so when im there i will glance thru the locked-case and sometimes i do find some cheap ammo but it's usually not the regular brand i shoot,, so i generally steer clear of those,, i've found however that my local ma-and pa gun-shop will at least match or even beat the on-line prices,i just have to call my order in a couple days ahead of time is all,,,

No wallmart for me, Local gun store only. Run by a real American.

Glad to know I'm a fake American.

I swear, some people go into the store just to complain about China.

You know, globalism isn't that bad, as long as you're on the good end of it.

Protip: We are.

wal-mart and customer service go together like water & grease. they just do not mix. whenever i am in wally world, i always look. but seldom buy ammo there. partly because i reload. but i can not reload my rimfire stuff. if they have what i am looking for, and if there is somebody in the department, i will buy. but i am not waiting and waiting, and waiting some more for ammo. i have purchased a lot of ammo from midway usa through the years. they do charge more for their shipping and handling than some of the others. but they have to pay for their excellent web service somehow. if they did not do it with the shipping and handleing, their prices would just be higher. besides, their customer service is A-1 top rate. i have never bought something from them, that if within a reasonable amount of time was bad, they wouldn't gladly replace. also, i REFUSE to buy a firearm there. i hung around for part of a transaction where another person was buying a shotgun. if they could have, i think they would have fingerprinted him, and run a DNA sample before the purchase went through. and, if you have a problem with the firearm, then what? go back to BOZO "A" and ask him to look at it? NO THANKS! i will buy my firearms at a real dealer, or used and accept what i get as is.

I buy ammo from Walmart, and a ton of other things including groceries. If you guys want to hate on Walmart for being the best at what they do and the epitome of capitalism, you go right ahead.
