Just thought y'all might want to know that Walmart seems to be Expanding their AR-15 sales.

Until this week my Local WM was not authorized by corporate to sell AR's while the store 3 miles down the road was. I was talking to the man at the gun counter this morning and he said that corporate had just approved a new round of stores to sell AR variants and they should start arriving in the next couple weeks!

Seems like they are moving in the right direction.

Not that I have the spare scratch to buy anything :)

We will see. I'm not too optimistic about walmart heading back to heavily marketing towards sportsman.

I stopped buying ammo from the years ago because of this. Hopefully I will be proved wrong!

Not sure I buy that. I've always read/heard that whether or not a Walmart store sells firearms is entirely at the discretion of the store manager, as opposed to 'corporate'.

Then again, the sources from where I received that info are as believable as the guy behind the counter that gave you the info you just posted.

My "source" was the SG department manager.

All I know is he wasn't able to get AR's until now. ( I remember asking him about the SIG AR before Black Friday. )

The store manager can request to sell (or not sell), but corporate decides.

I was also told that the deppartment manager has a lot of say in what they sell at a particular store. But Corperate has the final say in whether it's in the company's best interest.

A lot of that depends on the area the store is in.

Up until the shooting, the WM in Mansfield was selling Bushmaster's, around $860, went a week after, gone, and havn't seen any since.

The Walmart here is still getting in AR's, they even had an Olympic in the case. In the past week I've seen 2 new model AR's in my local store (the Oly and a new model Colt).

I was talking with one of the Walmart guys who usually
works in the sporting good section. He let me know that
you can still special order their guns, including the AR's.
So, I'm going to start ordering. The prices seem to be the
same as they were in early December.

Like all the big box stores, and any store that wants to stay in business, Walmarts will only use their limited floor space for stuff they think they can sell. That is always the biggest deal in whether they put something out or not.

My understanding is that any Walmart that sells guns at all can order you anything that is in their catalog and have it shipped to the store even if the store does not actually stock that model. subject to local laws of course.

I did see a new poster on the rifle rack at my local walmart, it had an outline of an AR style rifle and advertising accessories for the "Modern Sporting Rifle" in large font. While I am not too fond of Walmart overall, I thought that this was a big move towards common sense and a mainstream recognition of the AR platform as more than just a military applicable weapon. Also, this seemed to be a legit corporate Walmart poster, and not just something that the local management got printed and put up.

Saw that also in South Carolina.

We have a newish walmart and dunhams in the city I live in, both are about 5 years old and neither one sells guns as part of the agreement with the city.

I have not worked for Wal-Mart, but I worked for a very similar company. I would be very, very surprised if ANYONE at the store level had ANY say in whether or not their store would carry ANY category of products.

These types of decisions are simply not made at the store level, unless Wal-Mart is very different from the rest of the retail industry in this regard.

None of the 4 Walmarts within 40 minutes from me have ammo much less AR variants. Have had neither for 6 weeks.

I keep reading here and other places on the internet about folks stocking up from the shelves of their local WalMarx ... not around here. All the stock folks here say they've received none!

No ARs in Northwest AR WMs either. No .223 or .45acp ammo either, in bulk. Some high priced 20 round boxes of off brand .45acp...no thanks for 32 bucks a box of 20.

I hope I can pick of a sig carbine or a windham from wallyworld soon. I will ask about special ordering tomorrow I was told today that they will be restocking ammo tonnite at my local store my fingers are crossed.

My wife managed a Kmart. The store manager had some say in what they carried. But there is no way a store manager has the resources to decide the mix of products they would sell and how to merchandise them.

Whether they sold guns or not would have been a decision made above that pay grade though. It is solely based on whether they think the floor space can make more money selling guns or an expanded selection of feminine hygiene products.

Most Walmart managers are only interested in turning a profit, as they should be.

I'd be willing to change my lousy view of Walmart if they'd stand up to the O admin.

The mgr of my Wally world called me when he got 9mm in as I'm going to one of Ayoob's classes and he understood that. Yes, he also got in several AR's but I didn't look at the make.

all three wally worlds near me stopped selling anything but 22LR rifles and shotguns a couple years ago.

#9 post tell me you live near Houston. This is the 10th day in a row of sitting at a walmart for 6 hours a day and nothing comes in, not counting the days I start going to Academy's at 4am. Every Walmart around here has people waiting for hours to see if something comes in. Looking for the Colt le6920.

Oh! Thanks for the reminder. People are waiting on the delivery trucks for the ammo at one MO store near me, and it is gone as soon as it is checked-in. An employee remarked that it wasn't fair to other customers, and they are shopping elsewhere for not only ammo, but everything else too.

Some customers are waiting 6-8 hours for the ammo. Ridiculous!
