My nephew picked up one of the wood stocked Axis models in .270 w/scope for $184 + tax (he lives in another state, hence the tax). Thanks for the heads up!
I got a scoped 770 30-06 for $200 out the door including a sling a few year back. It's still not too good LOL. Finally got a replacement loaner rifle Axis 30-06 yesterday for $124 ($137 after tax). I suspect it will be betterBought a remington 770 in 308 for 124.00. Not too bad.

Can't beat that price for a basic hunting rifle anywhere! However my experience with the 770 has been... umm... hmm... It shoots accurately and that's about it.yes. Mine came with a scope.
I'm going out tomorrow to try and find a 270, not that I need another bolt action or another caliber but I don't think I can pass up these deals.
No thanks, better people to give my money to than them. Walmrt has shut down US businesses and actively moved production to China. They have used eminent domain to take private land. Every time you walk in the door you surrender your rights. In nearly all 50 states it is legal for them to detain you, against your will without any probable cause. So YES you do have to show them your receipt simply because you paid at the garden or tire counter. Their lobbyists have successfully encoded into state law affirmative defenses against false arrest. That time of year, watch your local Walmarts for closeouts, or search Brickseek. Just don't tell the store you used brickseek or they may refuse sale.
My local store has Savage Axis with scopes .308, .270, .223 for $125 with plastic stock and $165 with wood.
which came first, Walmart or the desire for cheap, disposable goods
You get what you pay for in many cases. There are still some great values out there like the Ruger American Rifle $500 or less and you can have a moa rifle made in America. Modern manufacturing techniques through automation can make it happen.
Fully agree ! My point is that we can make a quality product here at lower prices and bring manufacturing back from foreign countries. But to keep prices low it needs to be done with technology and automation. The Savage Axis is made in the USA as much so as the Ruger. I would agree with you completely, the Ruger American is a fine product, but better than the Savage Axis, we get into opinion. The Remington 700 is USA made and it too has been on clearance.
