I am interested in picking up a P99 .40 cal. I currently own the P22 & am quite pleased with it. I imagine they both will feel quite the same. I want to know anyones experience with a P99. Durability, ammo issues, misfires? etc. I appreciate the feedbk.

I don't have the .40, but the 9mm version of the P99. I've put around 2000 rounds of several types of ammo and I've never had a problem. I have the "titanium coated" slide and it still looks almost new. I'm glad I bought it.

Accuracy & Range

Hey thx 4 the heads up, what about it's range and accuracy? BTW sounds like alot of issue free shooting? That's what I want. Tight groups and no malfunctions.

I recently picked up a 9mm P99. My preferences run toward 1911s and classic Sigs, so my expectations for a polymer gun are fairly high.

The P99 has been a pleasant surprise. Tight groups and no malfunctions pretty much sum up my expereince, although I have put less than 1,000 rounds through the gun so far.

No experience with the 40 but a few thousand rounds on a 9mm. Not a bad trigger for a striker fired gun, accurate, only negative in my mind is 35 dollars for full capacity mags. I ended up selling it to a woman who works for me, she said it was the only full frame pistol she could get her hands to work on. She still carries it to the office everyday.

9mm P99 is the most accurate gun I have ever shot - I shoot them better than I do a 1911.

Thx

2 all who have replied, thx 4 the feedbk. I had a good feeling about having the P99 b my 1st higher cal. pistol now I feel more confident about the choice.

As I write this response, my 2004 model P99QA Titanium lies just a few feet from in nestled inside a Comp Tac CTAC IWB holster.....buy it, you won't regret it. All three of my P99s (this one and a P99AS Military 9mm and P99AS Compact 9mm) have proven to be 100% reliable.

My 100% german made P99 is a tack driver, handles really well and is very concealable for an almost fullsize pistol. If you fool around with one in a gunshop just know that the trigger (DA/SA) gets much better over time.

No, be aware that most P99 fans prefer the A/S trigger - I am not a fan of the newer QA trigger.

I've got a P99 9mm DA/SA, had it for a couple years. Fit & finish is excellent and the tennifer finish still looks new.

Aside from rubbing my finger on the (old style) trigger guard lump, I have no complaints. It's been 100% reliable for me over about 4000 rounds. The trigger definately gets better over the first couple hundred pulls and is decent for a modern automatic. The grip is great and it takes ten seconds to change it to a smaller grip for the ladies. Accuracy is acceptable and unlike a Glock it'll restrike if you ever have a misfire.

I have owned about every quality 9MM there is, I kept coming back to the G19 as the perfect do everything 9MM until I got a sa/da 9mm P99.
BUY it!

I have a fullsize and compact p99 in 9mm. Both have been flawless. I'm getting rid of my sig 226 because of how they've spoiled me.

Walther P99

I have an original, 9mm, Deutsch made, Interarms imported, P99, date code KK (99).
The serial number is 018XXX. I figure it was one of the first batch made.
Anyway, I took it to the range this past weekend. It shot sub one inch groups at 10 yards, about an even inch at 15, and about 4" at 25.
The function was flawless.
These are fabulous guns!!
My advice, if you have not already done so, is to buy one as quickly as you can!!

I have a p99 9 mil da/sa and love it. no ftf, or misfires. great gun. I also have a p22 and like it as well. The difference between the p22 and p99 is that the p22 has a hammer to fire the rimfire round, and the p99 is striker fired(not sure how familiar you are).

I have the SW99 compact in 9mm - and that is in effect the same gun to all intents and purposes.

I bought it on a whim but have been impressed with it all the way since aquisition. Remarkably accurate. Feels better to shoot when mags have pinky extension. Only gripe is ergonomics - mag release a bit odd compared to most semi's and, decocker position a bit wierd too - those are however perfectly manageable.

It is occasionally carry if I need to downsize.

the Walther P99 is the most over looked pistol today

Fastest and most accurate double taps I could ever imagine. It's almost spooky! The slide design is conducive to remarkably quick sight acquisition. The P99 just gets better the more you shoot it, the AS trigger becomes butter smooth. It's light, and very easy to carry for a full sized pistol. No snags to catch clothing when drawing. I find the magazine release and the decocker to be perfectly placed for my ergonomics. It's extremely easy to take down to clean... The down side is the cost of feeding this thing; and it will eat a lot! Also, the P99 is kind of a herd animal, it wants to have family members close by, so you'll find yourself buying more P99's to keep it company. You can't just have one! :banghead:
In my opinion, the Walther P99 is the most over looked pistol today. It's design is different and a lot of die hards look at it as "too many bells and whistles to be any good"... It's a trend setter! Others are already starting to follow it's lead... It's a Glock on steroids! Get them while the prices are still reasonable, particularly the original design...
Man, I can keep going on with this pistol! Do I even need to say, I'm impressed with the P99?
Buy it before some else does! :D

Just to reiterate Hal8000's point about it being underated, about a year ago when i got mine i actually made a post about how great i think this pistol is, and why im not hearing much about it. Now threads are popping up everywhere. Get it and you wont regret it, people are cathing on.

I'll be in the minority when I say I didn't like the P99 (other than the looks). First-gen. Only marginally accurate (fine for defense but nowhere near the tackdriver my P226 is) and a simply terrible trigger. Gritty, mushy, just awful. They must have improved them since then. :)
