Weapons in the bedroom at night?

Alarm + HK USC loaded with Winchester XST+P 230 grain. Adios criminales. Backup is a Smith .357. Used to be a 12 but can't sweep the hall anymore with kids at the other end.

Also have a 180 degree turn halfway up my stairs; the longer it takes him the more time I have to shoot him again…just in case (not that I intend to miss).

Alarmed fence, motion lights 360deg 300 watts, no entry point with less than 2 very solid (nice looking) alarmed steel doors. 2 dogs.

My carry LCP, in my nightstand, under the bed in a simplex box a glock 30 and a glock 19. on my wife's side her .38 snubby.

In my safe in the closet (not my gun safe, just really my wifes jewelry etc) an ak pistol with a 30 rd mag, a pistol grip short barreled 870, first 2 rounds #8 next 3 00buck. an sp101 (In case Somone makes me open the safe)

My son upstairs a suppressed sten, gunsight 1911.

Non-weapon security: flashlights, security cameras, fire extinguisher, 2 attack cats. :p

Other items: revolver, pistol, rifles.

To answer the simple questions of weapons in the bedroom: my personally-owned duty Remington 870P and duty SIG P229R .40 pistol, plus, usually, a Les Baer 1911 .45 and one or more Ruger .357 revolvers, are the norm. Any burglars reading this are to be advised that none of these weapons remain insecured in the bedroom while I am out of the house.

I am assisted by two Boston Terrorists, plus there are likely to be other armed adults in the home.

As for the second question, I have not fired a defensive shot inside the home.

Glock 19, SureFire flashlight, charged cell phone, and an AR-15 ready in case such a need were to arise. I can't preach enough about having quality gear; it can make all the difference in the world, especially if you're fighting to keep your place in this world. Wait an extra month or two and save your money and buy a quality weapon, flashlight, etc...I'll step down off of my soap box now.

I keep a Glock 17 with night sights in a handgun safe mounted to my bed. The gun is loaded and chambered. In my safe is a Beretta 1201FP also chambered in case I need it. The handgun is the easiest to secure and still retrieve in about 5 seconds with one hand and in the dark.

I have never had to fire a weapon inside the home, but I was tested years ago with a drive-by shooting across the street at 2 am. It's amazing how fast you are wide awake when you realize the threat level. They were gone before I got to the first window to see where the shots came from or where they went.

I have a Sig 2022 in .40 on my side of the bed. The wife has a 4" .38 Special on hers.
We also have a small dog. She wouldn't be much in the way of attacking, but she barks when anyone comes to the door, which is good enough to wake me up if needed.

ruger sp101 on the nightstand along with my carry gun (ruger sr40c with 15rd mag) and my ar-15 leaning on the wall beside my nightstand. the wife has her sr9c on her nightstand.

I answered the first question but neglected to answer the second.

Yes i have discharged a firearm inside a structure.....

I spent 15 years as both a volunteer firefighter and a paid EMT back in the late '70's and 80's in a fairly rural suburb. About every other year somone in our coverage area would allow us to burn a house, barn, shed etc. partially cause they wanted it torn down and partially because they knew we liked the practice, the papers would come out and cover the drills, the owner would get an atta-boy and everyone was happy.... ok we were firemen we really like burning things as well. Often we had days or weeks where we knew we were going to burn the house, we would sometimes go out and salvage stuff (I got a hand carved 1800's mantel from one for my house). Anyway one time we had an argument over home defense and the virtues of shotgun vs pistol, penetration, safety etc. I remember this like it was yesterday, we asked the chief if we could test some theories. He rolled his eyes and said "hmmm no potential for an embarassing headline here... OK but wear your bunker gear, helmets and visors and if anything comes out of this your on your own..... but let me know how it goes and what you find out."

so we shot up the inside of the house, it was loud but not overwhelming probably because most of the windows were broken out already. old fashioned plaster, lathe and wire is pretty good at stopping just about anything, and no real penetration through two layers with anything. Sheetrock pretty much everything penetrated both layers but my shot gun with #8 the pellets mostly stuck on the far (opposite) side of partition walls and the few pellets that made it though just bounced off the far wall (3rd layer). Thats why my home defense shotgun is loaded 2 rounds #8 then 3 rounds 00 buck. i figure after the first 2 rounds i'm awake clear headed and know exactly what i'm shooting at and whats behind it, or possibly even shooting at taillights.

I keep a Kimber Custom Target 1911 .45 in a quick access handgun safe. (I have two small children). If for some reason, that's not enough, I will get the Mossberg Maverick 12 Gauge out and load it.

I have an intruder alarm system installed in the house; a combination of magnetic reed switches and PIRs that trigger many lights, many sirens and a dialer.

In the bedroom, lessee ... the primary "weapons" are: one of several semi-auto pistols (minimum caliber 9x19) with at least one extra magazine, 3 high-intensity flashlights (1 large, 2 small), Peltor Tactical 6S electronic hearing protectors (good for greatly improving your hearing even if shooting never occurs), clear safety goggles which sport 1.50 diopter lower half lenses (for my presbyopia) and a cellphone.

Great information, Thanks!

Lights, bullets, and LOTS of sharp edges.

Im clumsy with fire, or used to be...well, not clumsy, it just always seems to get away from me off the leash at the worst times...we had fire extinguishers long before guns. I consider them like having duct tape.

I have:
- Glock 19 in a quick access safe with extra mag and quality flashlight.
- 100 pound German Shepherd/Rottweiler Mix that looks like it would fight a grizzly bear and win. (In fact, it is a gentle giant and is great with my toddler and anyone who knows his name. I wouldn't want to be a stranger who came across him in the night though.)
- Remington 870 on hooks above the inside of my closet door.

My wife and I have gone over if someone breaks in while I am not home to grab the Glock, the flashlight, and her cell phone and run to my child's nursery and close the door. She is to SCREAM "I have a gun and if you come upstairs I will shoot you with all 15 rounds in this pistol!" If someone makes it in the door they are going to have the dog to contend with and if they are still capable and brave enough to make it upstairs then they deserve what is coming to them.

I have a bolted-down gunvault with a CZ RAMI BD in 9mm, 14+1, +P Golden Sabers. This is my quasi-CCW. Soon to be replaced with my new Sig 1911 fastback carry with 8+1 Ranger T JHPs (HD). I need to shoot another few hundred through it and make triple-sure the magazines are 100% reliable.

My dedicated bedroom gun is a Maverick 88 7shot with #2 buck in the corner next to the bed. When I go to bed I put my CCW a Kahr PM9 with night sites next to the bed with my cell phone set right on top of it with the charger plugged in. That way I know exactly where my pistol is in the middle of the night. If I'm gone or working I make sure my wife has her S&W 439 and/or 870 youth 20ga with 00bk next to the bed. The gun safe is also on the wall next to the bed with everything loaded including the cap and ball .44. Wife also keeps her phone beside the bed plugged in.

I like the fire extinguisher idea. I have heard wasp spray also make a great non-lethal weapon.
