What 9mm (ammo) does your Sig226 enjoy? +P?

Hey all, as most of you are aware I am shopping for a new 9mm and have chosen the Sig 226 w/ Night Sights. I should be placing my order this Fri or Sat if my week goes as planned, then wait out my 10 days like a good little Kalifornian.

I will also be placing an online order for a Blackhawk CQC Serpa holster, seems to be a good all around holster at a good price. And also a third Mag along with some ammunition. I am getting 2 Factory mags with, but what is everyones favorite aftermarket mag? I thought I had read somewhere Mec-Gar makes the Sig mags, so I should buy a Mec-gar or a 3rd Sig mag?

While I will be shooting mainly the usual suspects at the range (Remington green box, Rem-UMC, and Winchester) I also like to keep a box of "ammo I pray I never need to use" around.

Question 1 is: Can I shoot +P ammo out of my Sig or is it standard only? If yes how much more kick is there to 9mm +P ammo? I have never fired any. :scrutiny:

Question 2 is: What is your opinions of Remington Golden Saber 124 Grain in either Standard or +P or the Golden Saber 147 Grain for a home defense round? In my .357 I prefer Federal Hydra-Shok, but that is only due to .357's power needs to be tamed a bit for follow up shots. When it comes down to it I will shoot any round at paper except Wolf (My range does not allow it), but it is either Remington or Federal for HD ammo, that may make me a ammo snob but so what, its my ammo.

Any other comments on what your Sigs like cycling through? Or don't?

Regards,
RFB

The P226 is rated for +P. I've shot 124gr +P Gold Dots and Federal HST through mine with no issues. I haven't shot the Remington JHP though. I had problems with the Remington JHP's in a P220 that I had a while back. I'm sure the issues were with the load, not the gun.
For the range I've shot Remington UMC green box, Blazer/Blazer Brass, Fed AE, Magtech, WWB, and other brands. The P226will pretty much will eat anything you feed it.

Your P226 will be just fine shooting +P ammo (any every other ammo for that matter)
Every gun has different likes and dislikes when it comes to ammo.
After you get your P226, buy a box or two of different carry ammo and see which one your gun likes most.
I carry Federal Hydroshocks 124gr in my Sig P239 and P226.
Good luck with your new Sig. I'm sure you'll like it!

Any of the rounds you mentioned will cycle fine and shoot well in and out of your P226.

The most popular based on numerous polls taken on this forum and others are:

Speer Gold Dot 115gr. 124 and 147 work well also.

Remington Golden Saber

Fed HST

Winchester Ranger XT http://www.nles.com/store/customer/...e=froogle&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=froogle

I prefer the Double Tap Gold Dots in any caliber I carry:

My one bit of advice would be that whatever grain bullet you choose for defense, try and find a the same grain bullet in a practice load.

Do you shoot at an indoor or outdoor range?

My carry load is 124 +P Gold Dot. They shoot just fine in my P226, recoil isn't an issue. You wouldn't want to shoot a high number of them for practice just because of wear and tear, but most can't afford to shoot that many anyway.

Your 226 will eat +P and anything else you can fit in the magazine. Mine is loaded with DPX atm.

Congrats on your P226! Where In CA are you located, there's lots of SIG fans here in Socal :D

+1 to everyone's recommendation for Speer Gold Dots 124 gr +p. That's my standard carry ammo, my P226 seems to like those as well.

Although the P226 can take the +p ammo, it's recommended not to give it a steady diet of +p ammo as you'll wear it out faster. Use standard plinking ammo for target practice, you can shoot the +p defensive ammo once in a while to practice with your defensive ammo/shootup old ammo/cycle for fresh carry ammo.

For 10 rounders, Mecgars are great magazines.

Well Robert, a bunch of us, including Black Majik and I met on another Sig related board. At various times over the last year or two small groups of us have been getting together at either Angeles for informal shoots and at Norco for USPSA shoots.

Angeles is fun just to get to know the guys and see all the toys. Some up there have some nice collections and they are all great guys.

If you're interested PM me or watch the Rallying point ( http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=143194 ). I believe some of the guys were just up there on Sunday. I've learned a lot shooting with them and had a great time as well.

seems to me like he needs a trip to Angeles or Norco, no?

Please, just take him anywhere but Burro Canyon, we're filling up fast on what used to be our quiet little range before other closures. Now it's getting hard to grab a members private range even on a weekday.

The cops don't collect their brass tho, I really need to buy a .40 to accommodate that.

Congrats on the Sig. Mine has functioned flawlessly with any and all ammo I have tried. For defense, I would recommend either Golden Saber 124gr+P or Gold Dot 124gr+P. I stay away from 147gr standard pressure hollow points. The lower velocity makes for unreliable expansion. Have fun.

as everyone else has said it will handle +p and if its anything like my wife's p226 it will be a garbage disposal. hers will eat anything and spit it in the middle of the target.

Don't worry. We keep to ourselves on our own Private bay. :D
