What ammo is NOT being bought up?

Went into a local Turners the other day and the rifle & handgun ammo shelves were bare. I'm not kidding. There was not a single round of ammo on the shelves.

They had a small amount of shotgun birdshot ammo. No buckshot, no slugs.
 
My local Wal-mart had .380 and 7.62x39 in stock today. I almost bought some of the 7.62x39, but I don't own an AK so I thought I'd leave it for someone that could actually use it :)
 
Around here things are looking bare except for target load shotgun shells, and the larger hunting rifle calibers (45-70, 300WSM, 7MM Magnum, nothing much weaker than 30-06 is available though). Handgun ammo is almost impossible to find, one store I was in last week only had .45LC and another today only had .32 auto.
 
NW Washington here. Cabela's had cases of 50bmg still. That's a very untactical round, right? (Can't double-tap with it, after all -- so no practical stopping power).
 
I am seeing most standard sporting cartridges in stock everywhere, such as .204 ruger, 22-250, 243, 243wssm, 270, 7mm-08, 7mm Rem. Mag, 30-06. and even a lot of 300 win mag.

What I DONT see, is all pistol cartridges, except 22WMR,44 Mag, and 45 Colt.

in rifles, No .22lr, .223, and .308 but I have been able to find .308 in Hornandy Superformance, Vortex and other high dollar factory .308.
 
It would be easier to list what IS being bought up...

.22LR (Local place has three 375-round boxes of Mini-Mags for $59 a piece, which is about double their normal price... other than that, haven't seen any)
.223/5.56 (One local place has some, thanks to purchase limitts)
5.45x39
7.62x39 (to a slightly lesser extent... plenty locally, but not in the quantities that most buy it in)
.308 Win (hard to find the cheaper stuff, but plenty of good hunting loads)
9x19 (Haven't seen a box of 9mm outside of my local range's RANGE USE ONLY stash in a while)
.45 (at some places... others, it's plentiful... depends on price, I guess. All that's left is the expensive stuff)
12 gauge bird and buckshot (slugs are abundant)

Everything else, I've had not problem finding. Seriously, shelves in my area are full, except for the things on that list.
 
I see plenty of .17 HMR and .40 cal here even after the rush.
Hence, a future planned purchase of both of these is in the works.
M&P 40 and a likely a Marlin or lower priced 17 shooter. I like
The availability and ballistics of both of these, with reasonable
Prices of both ammos.

I used to see lots of 270w ammo, until I bought most of it
At both Walmart and our local Rural King. I live in west central
INDIANA

Seems like most everything else is subject to running out.
But I mostly just focus on the stuff that has a good surplus.
Hence the plans for the 17 and the 40!
Seems like there are few 40 shooters around here, it hangs
Around longer than the other handgun rounds. The guns are
quite reasonably priced, I can get a great handgun for under
$500 and even some Glocks are just a bit over that

lots of 'oddball' ammo

Apologies to the 'oddballs', but you may be in luck!--- seems as the popular calibers dry up, the local Academy is scraping around for anything to put on shelves-- seeing:
.32 H&R Magnum Wadcutters
.38 Short Colt
.450 Bushmaster
.204 Ruger
.300 Whisper
.327 Federal
.308 MARLIN (Hornady)

NO #7 1/2, #8's, #9's, neither in 12ga nor 20ga. Lots of .30-06, .270win., some .270wsm.

Just lots of ammo they haven't previously carried.
 
Walking into the local Walmart the other night and the only ammo was: 1 box of 20ga slugs, one box of 7MM Remington Mag. Rest were empty.

*Ammunition fully stocked in all calibers.

*Projectiles were abundant.

*Powder was very low (as in two or three, 1 Lb bottles).

*Primers were gone.

*Metal ammunition cans stacked-high, $19/each.

Oh, and I snagged a NIB, Winchester Model 70 Ultimate Shadow, .243 Win for $399! Don't hate me because I'm lucky. :D

17HMR, you can also find certain flavors of 22lr like SK and the expensive Eley stuff (black or Tenex). Seems like 40S&W is around also. 12ga target loads has been hit or miss, mostly hit.

Can't find any CCI SV 22lr, or any decent 77gr 223. I did find some XM193 55gr .223 and some Armscor 62gr .223.
 
I wouldn't buy a gun based on what is currently unavailable. I'd buy a firearm in a common caliber (unless I really wanted one of the other calibers) and stock up on ammo for it so that the next time there is a shortage it won't affect you.
 
I took a short trip downstate yesterday. Stopped at several WM and LGS for grins on the way. Generally the handgun ammo was non existent save for 17 HMR and 22 MAG. the common rifle calibers like 308, 223/5.56, 7.62X39, etc were all missing as were all slug and buckshot loads for shotguns. Not any primers or bullets in stock for those hard to get calibers either. Lots of common rounds for rifles and shotguns otherwise most everywhere. Did find a store with some Federal American Eagle bricks in stock----for $75 each.:what::banghead: No I did not buy it up.:D There are supplies coming down the pipeline every so often still. The closest LGS has some limited amounts 9MM and 308 every week or so if you are there shortly after it gets in. Seems there is always a group of guys there waiting for it to show up however. Well there is no reason on earth for any of the LGS to have new old stock around after this anyway.:D
