What are the opinions on the ATI import 1911s from the Phillipines?

I am not aware of one made by RIA with the features of the linked ATI. Basically the ATI is like a TRP Operator without night sights.

As far as I know they are made by Armcor as well.

I thought this was the case too but they are not made by Armscor. They are made by Shooter Arms who is also in the Philippines

I wonder how much the ATI is going for. If it's more expensive, it may be worthwhile to just get an RIA Tactical and then attach a rail like this
The ATI I am looking at is 589-629$.

Is that good or bad?

Which one is that high in price? Sorry but at that price run don't walk away from that deal.

The fact that they are made by Shooters Arms makes them less of a known quantity. RIA and the other Armscor pistols have a pretty long track record vs ATI.

The Thunder that is linked in the OP. Basically a TRP without night sites it's on GunBroker. Also after doing a little research I think Shooter Arms makes the Trojan for STI.

I see that. No Armscor makes the frame and slide for the Spartan and the slide for the Trojan. Both guns are assembled and finished here. IIRC I personally would not pay that much for one. Do you really need the rail? If not there are tons of better cheaper options that are a much more known quantity that the ATI guns IMHO.

The whole point of this purchase is the rail, I want a nightstand gun with a tac light. I have Kimbers but none of them have rails and I don't like the options for adding rails. I am looking all over the net especially GB trying to stay below 800. I am bidding on a Desert Warrior right now, but I think my 800 dollar max will be beat. The next one I will try will be a Sig Tac Ops 1911 but again I don't know if I will be the high bidder.

So I figure I can get the ATI for 589-629 and add night sights for 150 bucks and be in under 800. But is the gun really worth 800 dollars compared to other options? Also I looked at Bud's and they have that model marked at 673 shipped, who knows this could be the next DSA 1911, boy I wish I picked one of those up when they were 650.

everything i have read has had good things to say. one guy mentioned that his ambi-safety kept coming loose but that it was an easy fix. the way it sounds is that on all these weapons assembled in the Philippines you are taking some sort of a risk on reliability and functionality. maybe you'll luck up and be the high bidder on the desert or sig.

Take a look at the Taurus 1911's they have rails and are at your price range.

In the link it says its a series from SHOOTER ARMS MANUFACTURING, or SAM Philippines. I'm a Filipino and live in the Philippines. SAM is different from ARMSCOR/RIA. But SAM 1911s are thought to be sturdy and reliable as well, and +P rated. SAM is a huge firearms company based in CEBU CITY, and has been a reliable parts manufacturer as well for 1911 pistols. ARMSCOR/RIA is based in MARIKINA CITY.

Safe shooting!!!

I own lots of 1911s including two Rock Islands and two Taurus guns. I like bargain guns as well as my higher end Kimbers. There is NOTHING that my Kimbers can do that my Taurus or RIs can't do, as well or better. I have looked at the ATI compact and, in my humble opinion, it is a well made gun that is on Par with the Armscor guns. I don't like railed guns but, the gun that you are looking at is a LOT of gun for the money. It has basically all the features of the TRP, which costs more than twice as much. Personally, I would take the chance and buy it. Six hundred is not a lot to spend on a 1911. I will put in another vote for the Taurus if you decide against the ATI gun. Both of mine have been incredibly reliable and accurate. It is in the same price range as the ATI. The only differrnce is that the Taurus has fixed sights and no magwell.

Consider this, even if you do have issues, most competent gunsmiths can get any 1911 to run reliably for minimal cost. Since you have just about every toy imagineable on this thing allready, about the only thing you might want to consider is replacing some of the high impact parts with non MIM parts. By the way, even companies like S&W, Kimber and Springfield Armory use MIM parts, with pretty good results, so it is not neccesary, but some people like to swar them out as they can afford it. I have not bothered with any of my pistols.

Check out the Classified section. There is a railed Taurus for sale with extras for $500 including shipping. Great price on a very good gun. Beware, the Taurus bashers are on their way. this is not my gun.

I have an ATI FX Titan which I think highly of. Would have gotten a Rock (have a full-size governemt RIA), but they only come parkerized in compact models, which I don't care for.

Not a rail guy, either, but I'd look at Taurus as well. Had a couple of MilPros that worked just fine. I wouldn't be a bit wary about getting a Taurus 1911. 1911 parts interchangable? Don't know.

Bunch of folks running around that bash the Tauruses, Kel-Tecs and filippinos of the world without ever shooting/owning one. Not sure why. Snobbery? Fanboyitis?

Also, if Taurus made an alloy frame 3 incher, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Thank you for the straight scoop from a local.

Do folks on the islands have a preference between the two?
