What Auto do you use for Home Defense and why???

Colt stainless Commander (Series 80 garbage removed) with RangerT's, because I will never be convinced by the current mythology that a 9MM equals a .45 ACP.

Short answer....one within my reach. If I cannot get to it, capacity, caliber, whatever...it would not make one bit of a difference.

Second answer...one that has "proven" itself.

Third answer....if I can get to a shotgun first, the handgun (auto loader or not) instantly moves to "backup" status.

A HK45 and a USP 45 Tact. are my 2 Home Defense handguns - if I can't get to the SG first.

Why? They fit, they shoot better than my ability to wring it out of them, they're uber reliable and I bought each at a price that would make the 1911s I was looking at blush (under 800 OTD for each).

Well, in 2002-2003 when this post first appeared the only handgun I had in the house was an old Titan .25 that had been my mother's purse gun. I didn't try to delude myself into thinking it was much good for home defense though! My current bedside gun is a FNP-9M with night sights, my wife keeps a S&W stainless snubby with laser grips in the nightstand on her side.

Bedside an HK USP Full in .40 S&W with extra two mags, one extended, all with Federal Hydra-Shok 185 gr..

For the rest of the house a S&W 5" 686 seven shot loaded and one speed loader with .38 spl. Federal Hydra-Shok 110 gr. and one speed loader of Nyclads.

In the workshop a S&W Model 64 loaded with Nyclads and two speed loaders of Nyclads.

In the yard a SIG 238 (or 232) with Golden Sabers.
Ever seen Nyclad performance in gelatin ? Even out of a a snub nose it's impressive .
I was dancing a jig when Federal decided to produce it again . I had a M-85 stainless Tarus and a Ruger Security Six that were both w/o adjustable sights and hit to point of aim with the Nyclad .

Buick. :D

(oh, you mean guns. CZ-82, P3AT, and Ruger Security Six are the ones I keep loaded. Not necessarily in that order.)

Whatever I carried that day (Springfield SS Champion, or SW 4013) in my nightstand, .40 S&W HK USP EXPERT in wifes nightstand. One spare in the drawer for each, all loaded with Gold Dots.

Also keep a 9mm AR just inside the closet, two 32rd mags loaded with frangibles.

If by some miracle all that fails, one of 2 family dogs is a 100lb Rotty. Probably cares less about the adults, but she'll eat your face protecting the kids.

May be overkill to some, I have had a break in while home, I call it keeping the odds in my favor.

sa xd service model with m6 light and spare mag.

why you ask? that is what i carry and train with so that is what i use. and with over 17,500rds through it i would bet my life on it.

Glock 20 in the right and a PF9 in the left, spray and pray in large, poorly controlled bursts

I am currently using a Glock 30sf with Winchester Supreme Elite 230gr JHP ammo as my nightstand gun. I am fixin to add a Mossberg 500 Persuader 12g shotgun to my home defense arsenal.

My side, Colt Commander .45 with Winchester 230gr HP.

Her side, S&W 36 with Winchester 158 gr LSWCHP +P.

In the corner, Remington 870 Express with 2 3/4" Remington 00 Buck.

Outside, meanest half-breed dog in the county.

Glock G33 357sig with 125gr golden saber bonded hollow points. I know I would probably lose my hearing for a while if shot in the home but it has a lot of speed and 500+ ft lbs. of energy behind it, and I am very confident with it. Sometimes I do put a lone wolfe 4 inch 40 S&W barrel in it with 165gr Winchester PDX1 bonded ammo in it. Either way I feel confident.

G17 + 3 extra 33 round magazines on the window sill shelf above me. Can't go wrong with 116 rounds of Speer Gold Dot 9mm 124gr +P JHP's within arms reach :)
