What could cause a bullet to land about 2 feet high in 500 m?

If you’re satisfied with Hornday bullets due to their 100 yard performance ,price point and availability than that’s great. Other fellas on this thread speak of a few problems and you yourself are asking about an unexplained shot. I’m just trying to help figure it out..( my comment after that was y’all need better bullets)
Are you buying in bulk like 500 count boxes or 100 count boxes ?
Have you tried sorting by overall length ?
Heck, I sort Berger 108 gr BT three different ways to be sure I’m not leaving accuracy behind. Or have one of those errant shots.
I bought 1,000 and I recently bought another 300.
I have 250 remaining and I’ve looked everywhere here in Canada for .264 bullets with no luck.
I’m on notification lists with everybody for 139 Scenars
Trying to get Berger is useless here in Canada
Sierra is hit and miss.

It was pointless sorting base to ogive. They were very consistent.

After the match I spoke with the guy on the other squad and he said that the missing round was heard overhead and made a dirt splash but went over top of the target

It could simply be that what the observer thought happened wasn’t actually what happened. When marking targets for F Class in the pits, I can hear the sonic crack in the lane next to me and sometimes think it’s on my target unless I’m watching the impact berm
