I doubt your boss wants you pulling out a gun or killing anyone in the store. Prolly best to just stay calm, get a good ID if possible, and let the cops handle it, unless you honestly feel he's about to murder you.

Whatever you do, always remember the eye in the sky is watching. The security camera is always on......it can work for you or against you.

Some may think my earlier question about an "inside man" in a business robbery might be paranoia at work. From today's news:

Fourth arrest made in fatal armored car robbery

Four people have been arrested in the "cold-blooded" slaying of an armored car guard as he carried a money bag out of a bank branch at a Wal-Mart, police said Wednesday. One was a Wal-Mart employee on duty during the robbery.

...

Arrested Tuesday night were a 41-year-old man thought to be the getaway driver and the 42-year-old female Wal-Mart employee.

...

"We believe that the Wal-Mart employee gave information to the other people involved as to the comings and goings of that Loomis armored truck," she said. "I can't say who was the mastermind, we haven't gotten that far yet, but there were at least these four involved in planning it together."

This kind of "scenario" gets posted over and over here at THR, the same problem I see is that the OP always sets-out exactly where everyone will be and always has a chance to draw the gun when a BG's back is turned.

Unfortunately, real world doesn't work this way and everybody is always moving and you never know how many BGs there actually are. AND, since you aren't expecting it to happen, your brain may need to process exactly what is happening for a few seconds before you retake control of brain & motor skills.

If a robbery does happen, it won't go as you have planned it.
All you can do is train, preferably at a location where you can move while shooting.

My spouse explained to me that she was once held at gunpoint to the head at a taco bell during a armed robbery very early in her years after school.

Ever since that time, she has been most selective in occupations not requiring armed robbery as part of the day's plan. The USMC took care of that for many years. Oorah.

She is still selective about work if any at all for the year in regards to risks for armed robbery.

I dont do any work at all associated with cashiering or money between peoples for wages anymore. I dont care how bad the job market is.

Recently in the last 3 days or so, about 6 fast food places were robbed within hours or minutes in twos and threes at a time during the night downtown.

I think robbing by weapons and killings will only increase in this year. All the more reason to carry and use situational awareness to protect yourself.

My Rule: Dont hire onto a job where a robbery is a possibility.

Second rule: Dont work in a workplace in bad neighborhoods.

Third and final rule: Look out for yourself and stay out of urban areas at night.

Only then you may find peace, order and tranquility with awareness to your home in a quieter area out in the country or in one of the smaller towns with a pop of 3000 or less.

I went to a store today armed. Did a few hours shopping for food and stuff for the month and as far as Im concerned, there was no problems at all and total peace of mind knowing where the chips will fall if something did develop. As long you study the laws of your state and local areas regarding weapons you will understand better how to fight.

That means in states that bans carry, move to a state that allows it. In states that require you to have a card ID before looking inside a gun shop, move to a state that has freedom. If you must protect yourself and family, dont do it in a anti gun state or gun free zones.

Take your lives and those you love into your hands and move somewhere where guns are allowed to citizens and live free. Take your taxes and other revenue with you when you leave these anti gun areas. That way, they have nothing but criminals preying on what few sheeple left who are known NOT to have any weapons at all.

And some of you might actually get a first full night's sleep without a single scream or SIREN blaring in the night coming into your old neighborhood. Such silence in the new home will be unsettling and keep you awake. But all is well.

That is preferable to chaos and random crime in over stuffed complexes, projects and so called gun free zones that just dont work.

And for you college students. You will be robbed on campus. Why? because your campus officials will tell you NOT to exercise your right to 1st Amendment free speech to talk about 2nd amendment right to bear arms at 21 years of age and over. If some of you students are 18 and flying a helicopter stuffed with 12 Marines into battle at 19 years old, you deserve to go to a college that allows you to enjoy free rights without interference from school officials. Stay alive and keep your buddies safe first, then come home here and go to a state that has fighting colleges that permit carrying concealed for your own protection.

Maybe, just maybe you will be well rested and ready for a safe workday without possibility of losing to a robbery by weapon without options.

But the neighbor's rooster will wake you up a little before dawn.

Aint that the truth.

Along with the birds, crickets and assorted nature. What a racket.

But that creak of the wood step from bad guy or snap of a metallic object... whoo... that just takes one straight to alert orange. Of course you are wanting to be a good neighbor and help this fella out. Sometimes the LEO's take care of that for you.

Maybe just maybe one day...

Rooster: Co-caddle-doodle -dooooo [BOOOM!] followed by blessed silence.

Im no professional, no formal training. My opinion is that a man comming in gun already in hand would have an advantage. So I guess that common sense would take that you would have to draw and down him without him/ her seeing you executing the meneuver. But then again maybe the crook never really entended to shoot anybody. So they might just freeze like a deer in a spotlight to see a cashier unexpectedly draw on them. Also your own personal experience with these situations would have a great bearing on your turnout. If your a shootout hardened ex LFO that just happens to be working the graveyard shift to keep himself busy during his retirement, would probable have a pretty resonable chance of handling the situation. Whereas a novice trying the same thing would be more likely to turn out in a more unexpected way.

Also had a fellow co-worker tell me that when a crook decides to rob a place they usually pre-determine if they are going to shoot anybody. So maybe the crooks already haave a plan on how they think the robbery will go down as well. Not sure how true this is, but some food for thought anyhow.

...if you see them "walk in to the store carrying guns" you have already lost the gun fight. The first to draw wins 99% of the time.

I believe this is incorrect...and dangerous thinking.

...the crooks already have a plan on how they think the robbery will go down...

Yes...and anything you can do to get inside their loop and interrupt their plan may well be all the edge you need to win.

Walking into a store (or anywhere else) brandishing firearms with the intent to rob presents an imminent threat to everyone in range.

In that scenario I will operate with the assumption they mean harm with the weapons in their hands and that my life is at risk - regardless of which way they are facing at the moment.

A gun pointed at your face at close range may not be the opportune time to draw a firearm...

...But...

If they are not pointing at you at close range, or are distracted, or you can move off the X and take cover or concealment...

...And...

At any point there is an opportunity to draw and fire with a clear field...

...Then...

I hope my mind-set and admittedly limited training (I'm working on it) will allow me to engage and fight for my life...until it's over.

Always, Always look for the other person. Kind of like the rule "one gun is none, two guns is one" One criminal is two, two criminals are three, three criminals are four, and so on.

First, listen to Lee Lapin (posts 11 and 29). His points are very well taken.

Second, there is no "cook book" answer. Your reasonable options will depend on exactly what is happening. You will need to exercise judgment and do so quickly. How good your judgment will be will largely depend on how good your training is and how well you can answer Lee Lapin's questions.

There is a short item called the "Boyd Loop" It's was for Fighter Pilots to think on while learning to fight with thier aircraft against another.

it is also a mental way of thinking ahead of your opponet. If you can mentally decide a action, execute the action and do it faster and run your opponet out of time, options, energy and room you win.

We had a fast food held up the other night, one of several in the same night. All went down differently, but the result was the same, they were robbed.

A few weeks ago we had one use "May I use bathroom" ruse to gain access to a fast food place after it closed late for the night. The manager let him in. Only to see bad guy emerge from bathroom with gun and hold up the place.

For some reason a moment arrived and when it passed, the manager, a second employee and robber were all falling out of the drive through window fighting over the weapon.

Somehow eventually the LEO's arrived and took bad guy into custody. As it turned out, the weapon was stolen out of California apparently also was the bad guy.

Came a long way and picked the wrong place to rob.

We had a robber come into the truckstop near North Little Rock one night some years ago. Bad move. That robber sprouted words "Stick em up" to the cashier and was buried in truck drivers who pounded bad guy into the tile floor. I think bad guy is still bearing the impressions of the floor on his person plus the wounds sustained to this day. That is the story I was told.

The thing these fast food type places and short stores are being robbed on a regular basis surrounds a area of downtown that I go to regularly for appointments, work etc.

That is why I carry. If robber comes in while Im munching on food in one corner... we will have to go over the options in another thread related to robberies commited while YOU are a paying customer concealed carrying and eating food.

But to WORK in one of those joints?

Forget it. Not even for a thousand dollars a week.
