Armed robbery in pharmacy - what would YOU do?

hso,

Thanks, I've been a long time lurker. I registered sometime last year but haven't posted until this thread came up.

Although I would consider seriously fighting back, I might also simply run away and out the back door. No crook is holding me at gunpoint!

Big bump, but had some more thoughts on this due to some "somewhat" local pharmacies being robbed at MACHETE-point recently...

And also considering that I may well NOT be at "arms length" with the aggressor. Or at a point where I almost am, but can't get to him easily. Like a robbery that happened REAL close to home - the pistol-toting bad guy came to the "drop off window" to hold up THAT tech.

Now, at the register I figure I can take two steps through the 2-way barrier to get closer to the BG if needed if I made a fight of it - or step over the counter if I have to. That wouldn't be as easy to do at drop off.

Hence, thinking more of the option of running. Besides having a good chance of a cluttered path as I said before, another concern would be that it would agitate the robber MORE - to where even if he wasn't going to shoot before, he might NOW...

I *might* be able to save my own skin that way, but I don't think I could live with myself if something happened to my co-workers because of it...

Since my options are pretty well limited to knife, OC, or kubotan - any thoughts on which would be better to use on an armed robber that you have good reason to think it about to shoot?

Since I've yet to get complete TRAINING in the knife or kubotan, OC seems like a good idea. Or did until I was test firing some and later caught a strong "whiff" of the residue. Not sure how much good I'd be wrestling around with a guy who's got some on his face at the time...

I work full time in a hospital pharmacy in Texas. Here concealed carry is prohibited by law, as well as by hospital policy. Now when I occasionally do relief for one of the local retail guys, he has one of thos big 45LC/.410 revolvers under the counter, and an old bolt action 12 ga a few feet away. Most of the time I just carry my pocket 38 or a compact 45.

I think that if you check again, you will find that hospital carry is NOT prohibited by law in Texas. They may opt to post a 30.06 sign and may have policies, but that is different. 30.06 is just a trespass violation.

Let's not resurrect old threads, please, unless there's news that's a continuation of the OP. Start something new with some fresh ideas if you're really interested in the topic...

lpl/nc (and yes, if it's the same old "What If, Volume 37" stuff trotted out again, some mod is likely to complain about that too)
