Here are the following firearms that fill a certain niche in my collection:

Baby Eagle 9mm full-sized - Home Defense
S&W 442 - Carry gun
AR-15 w/ 3x9 and Red dot - Varmint/Hog hunter
Custom 6mm bolt action topped with 6-18 Glass - Long range paper punching
AK74 - Cheap Plinker (10 cents/round) and eventual HD (haven't tested reliability yet)
Winchester 1400 - Clay/Bird gun

Now the only things I don't have are:

Large caliber handgun
.22 Plinker Pistol
.22 Rifle

Now the big question, what should I do with $250 worth of Cabela's gift cards? Save them and wait till I can afford to add cash on top for a 1911? Get a Ruger Mk/Browning Buckmark? Pick up a Ruger 10/22 or Savage MkII?

Or should I just put it towards 2-3 months worth of ammo?

Help...

I'd get a reloading bench set up, that will save you quite a bit of money over factory ammo, plus its fun and gratifying.:)

If you're not reloading, start.

Otherwise, a .22 pistol or rifle. I like the S&W 22a and a 10/22 (if only for the magazine.)

One Vote for 10-22,,,Got one, Love it! :D
That and a brick of ammo is the most fun one can have without ending the day aplologizing to a judge. (Don't Ask) :banghead:

Merry Christmas!

My local Cabelas has some super deals on reloading presses. Look in the Bargain Cave. Sometimes the stuff is buried or on odd shelves.

Possibility!!!

If you have a lot of spare time buy the reloading setup You can then save enought on ammo to buy what everyone else suggests

Buy 10mm ammo, it is getting rarer than hens teeth, keep it for about 6 months to 1 year and double your money by selling it, same with loading componets for it, high end stuff like XTP's and Sabers, not lead. As a FFL dealer, I keep seeing it out pace the prices of anything else and the word is, the mfgs are cutting down on 10mm and increasing production of .40.

Dr. Rob: I think that Ostrich sandwich tastes more like a Ham sandwich, the foods in the cafe are good for sure. I bought 8 elk sandwiches and kept them almost frozen for lunches for the week the last time I was there.

i shot my .22 rifle about 100 times today and it is pure fun.

it would be tempting to get a .22 rifle beings hat you could probably get one without having a remaining balance.

Large caliber handgun
You don't really need one. You've got CCW and SD guns covered quite adequeatly. You need more practice ammo for those and you need a .22LR pistol to practice honing your marksmanship.
.22 Plinker Pistol
This is what you need. I suggest one of the Rugers (and deleting the mag disconnect and loaded chamber indicator, real easy to do) or a Browning Buckmark. These are both solid, reliable, well made guns that will last a lifetime. No, I don't like the way they look a bit odd, but they are good guns.
.22 Rifle
You also need one of these. Since you have an AR-15, have you considered a .22LR conversion kit or something like a S&W M&P 15-22 so that you get your AR fix for cheap and cover your .22LR needs?

Cabela's pricing on handguns and rifles can be so out of whack that you are way better off getting ammo there.

You don't have coffee cans full of change to add to it? I spent some time the last few days rolling coins and I have enough to buy another gun.
