What do I do with $250 worth of Cabela's Gift Cards?

All of my coffee cans are full of loose .22LR and 12ga shells.

I don't really feel the need to reload. I have my go to round in 223 (50 gr vmaxs) from Fiocchi or remanufactured HSM. At least 200 rounds of these have gone through the AR15 for paper punching and rabbit destruction, I have 150 more rounds laying around, each one with an animal marked on it.

For clays, i just get federal bulk pack ($22/100).

9mm was never worth reloading IMO. I shoot maybe 50 rounds once a month to be sure I can still hit with it.

Leaning towards a Ruger 10/22 Target Tactical. Already have a scope for it. It's $459 or something ridiculous at Cabela's, but if they will price match a local dealer for $407, I might just come up with the rest myself.

Go for the Ruger 10/22-T or a Ruger Mark III or 22/45. It appears to be the way you are leaning anyway.

For me, I'd probably buy some fishing gear.... excellent rod and very good reel. :)

Well, since no one else has offered, I'll take them off of your hands. I get a little spending money, and you get to eliminate the stress of the decision making process. :D

Can you really get into reloading for $250?
Yes AND still have some left over for components. Get a Lee anniversary set to start. Great investment and it will pay for itself. It is what gets lots of people reloading. You could buy the set ($80-$90), dies for one caliber ($22-24), reloading manual ($25) Primers $3 a hundred, powder ($22), and bullets (Depends). If you need cases, it is going to cost a little more, but if you have been hoarding brass, it won't be bad.

$250

I'd put it toward reloading equipment, powder, primers and bullets for your favorite weapon.

Yup, reloading stuff or ammo. I'd advise against buying any new firearms from Cabela's since they seem kinda pricey to me.

There are better places to shop for guns and ammo than Dicks.

Sell the gift certificates online or at the store and use the cash wisely. You should be able to get $225 for the gift certificates from someone.

PS- If someone is going to give a gift certificate I never understood why not just give cash!!!??? While generous and nice, it's just as 'thoughtless' of a gift and it hamstrings the recipient...

I'm going to go ahead and throw down a fifth (if you count your own leanings, sixth) vote for a 10/22. I got a 10/22 All-Weather Carbine stainless recently, and I love the thing. Light as a feather, and I tried my best to jam the thing (ultra-rapid fire over multiple magazines) with cheap .22 and absolutely could not.

Maybe. But it forces the recipient to use the gift card at the store selected by the giver and the store is usually chosen because the receiver likes it. It may not be a big deal to some, but I have given Walmart gift cards.... I learn later that nothing was purchased for "Christmas" which was the intent and it was used for groceries or gas which was not my intention.

LawScholar, glad to hear that your 10/22 ran reliably. You seldom hear good things, only complaints. Many are complaining about the painted receiver and plastic trigger group.

I can't believe nobody mentioned a black powder revolver. That's where my Cabela's gift card is going. I know they don't serve much purpose, but they sure are fun. Nothing like lots of smoke & noise!

In all honesty though, you NEED a .22, preferable a piston & a rifle. I would recommend a Ruger pistol, and your $250 should get you real close, especially if you can get them to match a price from somewhere else (I assume Cabelas does that, I don't live near enough to one to buy a cartridge gun from them, as IL still has a waiting period). Plinking and practicing are more fun when your spending $.04/round rather than $.25.

I got a $100 gift card from cabelas from the in laws for christmas and I bought me a Lee reloading press to get startes into reloading. I have been wanting to get started in it and I figured it wouldbe a good thing to use my card on.Now all I need is some reloading books, primers, powder and dies.I have some friends that have been reloading for years that are gonna walk me through getting everything setup and help me reload so I can see how to start doing it.

Another vote fot the 10-22. I have three of them! Best 22 rifle made & plenty of after market accessories available too!

Thats awesome Cajun... you will enjoy it.

If I could make a $40 investment to make single stage reloading of pistol rounds more enjoyable it would be the Lee Pro Auto-Disk powder measure. It will greatly increase your output while maintaining the single stage process. I wish I discovered it 5,000 rounds ago....

Have fun, and see you in the reloading forum!

I have a really nice 1860 Army from Cabela's. There'd still be money left over for a caribou sandwich. ;)

^ I see you're a big fan of the Cabela's sandwich!

Since it's only $250 you might as well add to the ammo pile, or maybe cleaning supplies would be a good choice.

Don't forget the sandwich.

Thank you mcdonl I can't wait to get started I will definitely look into that powder measure thanks for the info. I just ordered my press last night I can't wait to get it in so I can get started like I said in my post I have a couple of friends that have been reloading for years and they are gonna give me a tutorial on how to get going because I have never done it and don't have a clue what I'm doing.I have several calibers that I am going to be reloading for so I have to get started buying my dies and everything else I need to start cranking out some rounds!!!

Read post #15.....Dr. Rob don't forget the White bean Chili to go with that sandwich!!!....RCBS master reloading starter kit $288 at Cabelas. Pre-Christmas price

can you ever have enough versions of the 10/22 ?? I seem to have acquired 4 of them,, never been disappointed with any of them and have pumped 1000's of rounds thru them,,

The last time that I had Cabela's cards, me and Wifey Dear drove to Hamburg and I bought a Case tumbler and some other reloading stuff.
Wifey got a very warm winter parka that she liked and on the way home we stopped a a restaurant in Morgantown for lunch.
All in all, we had a great mid-Autumn day.
