I have a 1997 Marlin Model 60 that I bought for my son and his Scout Troop (I was their Scout Master) for work on a Merit Badge. It is practically new. My son is now a young Naval Officer somewhere in the Pacific. I've taken the .22 back and plan to re-fit it for coyote. I have ordered a new recoil buffer - after learning that the older plastic buffers are easy to break and that the newer ones are made of stronger stuff. I will be shooting CCI's Vilocitor which throws a 40gr red dot designed hollow point. This round, designed for critters up to coyotes - 1435fps. This is a little different for the lowly .22. South Carolina has lost 30+% of its deer herd, un-told number of turkeys, dove and quail. A friend of mine trapped 20 yotes on her rural property last winter, and one attacked a dog being walked at a park in the middle of Mt. Pleasant (population 70,000) which butts up to Charleston. The police trapped a dozen and are still catching one every so often. Soooooo, we've declared war on the these predators. The season is 24/7 12 months a year and you can use lights at night on private property. A new recoil buffer, scope, military style sling, and CCI's Velocitor; it ain't your granddad's .22 anymore... Or maybe that and a lot more.
