What do we do for a living?

Vocational rehabilitation counselor & vocational evaluator for the past 31 years. Has it really been that long since grad school?

Now they're trying to get me to join our computer accommodations lab/assistive technology team to work with our two occupational therapists and one computer systems engineer. The problem is they haven't quite defined what it is they want me to do. Maybe I'll just wing it and write my own job description.

My name has been submitted for cabinet-level approval to attend the RESNA conference in Atlanta in June at the Hyatt Regency, so maybe they're serious about this move. (RESNA = Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America)

Don't shoot me but... I'm a Civil Servant.

(Although in my defence, the organisation I work for (UKHO) not only provides a useful service, but actually pays for itself rather than getting any tax money).

Unfortunately I'm not shooting at the moment, but that's as much to do with not having found any ranges near where I live as it has with money.

i am a network architect for IBM Global Services
i also write networking books and articles

i drive a Prius (with NRA/GOA stickers)

I am a cattle rancher. I don't get paid very much at all, but I don't have to pay rent, and in the summer I don't have to pay for food. I drive an '05 Toyota Tacoma 4cyl 4x4 that I really like. I pay for my gun habits by eating cheaply and getting by with the minimum in less important parts of my life!

I guess I'll have to chime in
'79 American steel Ford F100
2003 F-150
Some kind of Mitsubishi Go Kart looking thing

Oops,

Forgot my transport!

1983ish Sikorsky SH-60B (thanks for paying your taxes, :D )
1986 GMC K1500 with a 6.2 Diesel. 300,000 and still runs good, but the years of New England winter (salt) are catching up.
2003 Triumph Bonneville T100. Great bike.

Wife drives a 2005-1/2 VW Jetta TDi. 50mpg on the highway. If an american company would sell a DIESEL car, we would have bought one. Same goes for 1/2 ton trucks.

When I went to buy a new Pickup, I asked about a 1/2 ton diesel, and was told "GM NEVER MADE ONE" and that someone "hacked" mine together. Funny, I still have the original bill of sale. It was a diesel from day one, and not the only one I have had.

Graduated from college with a Masters. Unemployed New York State certified public school teacher. My toyota was assembeled in California.

Software Engineer

Work for a small company in Mass making air traffic control simulations. I develop voice recognition and response aspects of our product. 54k a year but it doesn't go far what with 600 a month to the 401k and my fiance and the upcoming wedding. I'm selling guns just to stay afloat. And I drive a ford focus :p. Can't afford ammo :-(

If an american company doesn't get off its ass an make me a hybrid my next car will be the honda insight.

Day Job: Resource development and program services administration for non-profits.

Night Job: Editor emeritus, GunNews Magazine.

Occasional weekends: Firearm instructor.

I'm not sure why it matters, but I drive a Dodge Stratus and am fairly happy with it. Wish I had bought an Intrepid instead.

College Student. I'm studying Materials Science & Engineering. I have nowhere to park a car or store a gun at school. Maybe when I move out to the apartments next year.

Have a 600 acre cash grain farm. Do custom combining in the fall. Run either a Cat D8K or a D6C depending on the job. Drive a 1989 Dodge D250 Cummins diesel. Need way more time to hunt fish and shoot with my wife.

I am a highway worker for the county government (repair roads, build bridges, and plow snow). I also part time farm 154 acres, 25 head of cattle and 20 head of hogs.

Its been a long time since I have posted on here, but I lurk almost daily. You guys just seem to say it all.

I'm an accountant, but I'm good enough at it I get a fancy title to go with the job. Moved from WI to SD for this job - best move I ever made.

Hubby works seasonal as a heavy equipment operator - we use his money to do things like remodel a 100 year old farm house and buy guns.

Oh, I drive the snot out of a 05 Saturn, hubby drives my old 99 Saturn (I let him have it after I put 200,000 miles on it), also have a new chev truck (1996) and an old chev truck (1985). Last car my hubby had was a POntiac Sunbird (POS). Paid $1000 for it, fixed a few things and drove it for 100,000 miles - hated it the whole time.

I'm an accountant at an Illinois CPA firm (I live right on the border, on the good side though). I just finished drowning in 1120s forms, now its time to plunge into a whole mess of 1065s and 1040s.

I don't like my job much this time of year. It sure is nice in the spring when I can breath a sigh of relief.

"Regular job": Sales team manager for a manufacturer. But I gave up on other part time jobs to start chasing the American Dream of owning my own company. Check out www.primaryspecialties.com please. All of you business owners can help me grow (and reduce your taxable net!) by spending more on your promotions and advertising.

And with two full time jobs only one of my guns was bought NIB!

Oh yes, I forgot to say what I drove. I have two cars actually, a 1967 Pontiac Firebird R/A 400 and a 2002 Toyota Celica. Both are expensive hobbies added to the long list of other expensive hobbies. I don't have a chance to do what I like much anymore since I have been looking for a job for like 3 months but I am hoping something will work out soon so I can get back to doing what I love. The Graphic Design Industry sucks here as there are not many jobs and the ones that are available do not pay anything much.

Silent Stalker, what level is the R/A? Right now the price of Ram Air IVs is through the roof. Whichever it is, it's a very nice car. I'm partial to both the first and second gen Firebirds.

If you are interested in cars and would consider moving, the company I work for (Motorbooks) is hiring a designer. I'm sure the pay is crap, but we play with car and motorcycle books all day so we can't complain.

just me

High School Teacher, English, Central Los Angeles. Currently on vacation, and will start next month as one of my school's Deans.

Before this:
University TA teacher
Comm. College Tutor
Private teacher
Assistant Librarian
Diagostics and Repair Computer Technician, on-call
Web designer
Truck loader

The job pays ok, but the cost of living here is a real bummer. Rent is $975 for a STUDIO. Fortunately, I share a 3bd house with my old roommate, and we only pay $500 each (generous landlord, roommate's relative).

I own two cars: a 1994 tbird v8, which got badly damaged when I was hit by an Audi last year. They ruled against me, so oh well =( . I was spending about 1500 a year fixing it anyway, though. I still love the car - maybe one day I'll fix it up.

I bought a 2005 hyundai elantra in january. 13300 before tax and title. not the best car, but i'm hoping to save up and buy a house soon.

most recent gun: sig mosquito.

(why are we doing cars again?)
I had to check on that today, also.

I asked myself, "Self, why are all these people making statements about what kind of [vehicle] they drive in a thread about "what we do for a living"?

Did I miss the point? Is this a thread about those who drive for a living?

Then I (re)found post 3, about Fords, which I'd forgotten about.

OK, I'll play.

In addition to being an independent, college-level educator, I drive a Ford pickup with a POWER-STROKE diesel.

About town, with diesel prices what they are, it sucks. In a small town, designed for small cars, where parking for LARGE vehicles is ... um, compromised, it sucks.

On the open road, towing the 5th wheel cargo trailer (read: BOB designed for SHTF & TEOTWAWKI), it rocks.

'92 RamCharger; 150,000 miles are runs like a dream.

Bookstore clerk.

I start college in the summer. I think maybe I want to be a Police officer. Made a 96 on the asvab on my first try in little over half an hour. Couldnt pass MEPS though as I cant seem to hear a damned thing in either of my ears, especially beeps(should of bought my hearing aids to my test). Couldnt even hear good enough to get an exemption/appeal thingy in the middle of a war. I tried ARMY, Airforce, Marines and the Navy in that order so my hopes at being a cop may be a bit far fetched. I tend to excel in just about anything I do so whatever, Ill find someting worth doing where you dont need to hear.

I am retired ... so, I have lots of time to enjoy the guns I have acquired. As I recall, I once had a Chevy truck, C-10 shortbed, as I recall. 307 C.I.D. engine, pre smog equipped ... I could actually sit in the engine compartment and reach all of the spark plugs, the rotor, see the timing mark, and figure out how to do more than simply put gas in it. Now all that is done for me by a computer and a certified shop. Gives me more time to go shooting. Ahhh ain't life grand. :)

Material sciences, currently in the field of gas sensors (oxygen and dangerous gasses, like CO, NO).
Before?
CNC operator, schoolteacher, bookstore servant.
Full time father&husband.
Happy member of Defence Union (something like a voluntary national guard).

I work full time as a cook for UIUC but hesitate to call it a living. I love food and cooking as a hobby but can scarcely see myself doing it for the rest of my life. Considering my age and experience I make a decent amount of money, with excellent benefits, but there's more out there for me to do. If I can continue college then I'll be going into forestry and moving out of IL as soon as possible.

During student breaks I'm an organic gardener for our local Community Supported Agriculture group, and sell produce at the farmer's market. I've been doing it since I was 14 and have a love/hate relationship with it, but always seem to go back for more punishment.
