I have personally had three Glocks fail in my hand, and watched several others fail. Anything made by man will fail, eventually, even my beloved CZs, (which failed a lot less than anything else on the rental range!), and my ultra reliable Smith Model 10 revolver. It can and will happen. The two handguns that failed the least on the rental range I worked at were CZ and Ruger autos.

AR's with crap bolted on them are overrated.

The M4 type adjustable stock thats is on anything other than an M4 is overrated.

M14 type rifles are nice but way overrated.

Most underrated gun is the Saiga-12 because almost no one knows they even exist. These are the same people that fap uncontrollably at the mere mention of the AA-12.

Saiga are excellent shotguns for defending life and limb. Far and away the best choice for a semi-auto shotgun to use against human adversaries.

Most overrated? The 1911. Don't get me wrong, I love the gun and own a few, but any $700+ gun that so often has to be "tuned" by a smith or go through a "break-in" period before it becomes reliable isn't anything to brag about.

I prefer guns that work right out of the box.

AR/M16. Fouls where it eats leading to jams, needs too much lube to work( which holds dirt and fouling), puny cartridge and too fragile for use in hand to hand. Before any AR fans accuse me of not having any experiance with one or I'd know better, I have 9 years experiance with them courtisy of Uncle Sam.

Any gun packaged and sold as part of a 'survival kit', even if the firearm is perfectly fine when served without the added packaging.

A slight twist from what this thread is searching for I know, but I get irked when (for example) a mos 500a (with ONLY a pistol grip included) is sold with a sealed tube and some sardine tin survival kit for almost 350.00.

Who would buy this? To me, mostly someone who is going to not actually train with the gun and will leave it in it's nice little GI-esque OD tube.

A very good weapon made horribly overrated by nature of marketing and it's overselling as a 'just in case' survival sollution.

Five-seveN

Ive heard about 4 people blathering on and on about how cool they are and why there "getting one soon" in the last week.

Im fairly convinced every single one of them is playing counter strike source at this very minute.

Has anyone mentioned Glocks yet?;)

Bashers of the M-1 Garand rifle need some stress shooting trigger time behind an Arisaka, a Mauser, or a Mosin to appreciate that for its critical service period (WW2) there was nothing better on this planet until arguably the StGW-44.

The M-1 should have become the box fed FAL? Following what, an extraterrestrial visitation? The Garand was a major leap ahead of its half century long in the tooth turn bolt counterparts.

The seven most overrated firearms in the world:

Glock 9x19mm Parabellum
Glock 10 mm Auto
Glock .45 ACP
Glock .40 S&W
Glock .380 ACP
Glock .357 SIG
Glock .45 GAP

:p

SIG's- they cost too much, they rust easily(older ones), and in my experience with 3 different SIG pistols, they do NOT have "To hell and back reliability".

H&K- they cost too much, they are way too big and bulky compared to other designs, the triggers suck, and H&K hates civilians anyway.

FN PS90- this has got to be one of the most over rated firearms ever. What you get is basically a sci-fi looking range toy with ballistics no better than .22 WMR, but ammo that costs twice as much as .22 WMR. The trigger sucks, the ergos suck, and the "sight" sucks.
Give me a break!

S&W(new)- the older S&W's were great guns, but not anymore. Their revolvers a not even a shadow of their former selves. The new S&W revolvers have crappy triggers, crappy parts, and stupid lawyer locks. The M&P series autos suck for the same reasons.

Glock is an over-rated gun that I own eight of. They are not nearly as good as the kool-aid drinkers think but they work better, longer, and under worse conditions than a lot of pretty manly steel guns do (including a lot of the expensively tuned grandchildren of John Moses Browning).

The only gun I can think of that is not over-rated by its cheering section is the HK P7 variants. They keep kinda quiet because they don't want Mall Ninjas driving the price up.

Glock 17 9mmNATO

I'd say the G-lock is not the great gee whiz super pistol that many flock to...
It is very impressive in many important ways but is it the best choice for CC/LE/protection? I say no. Now a highly trained person with YEARS of carry/armed duty can safely use a standard Glock pistol but they are not for new shooters or LEOs/armed security.
I've seen many, many ADs where the weapon used turned out to be the you know it...Glock.

Do a web search and read the media items or watch the video clips yourself.

Rusty

PS: For the record, I would buy a few Glock models BUT, like noted weapons/training expert, Massad F Ayoob, I would have the Glocks made with NY-1 triggers, ;).

Glocks- Good guns, but they don't do anything better than any other pistols in their price range.
Kimber- everything made by Kimber. Lots of hype and marketing, but once again aren't any better than their competitors.
Mosin nagant carbines- why anyone would care about a inaccurate rifle who's only 'quality' is that it makes a large fireball when mismatched ammo is fired though t is beyond me.
Winchester 94s- Not nearly as good as their closest competitor's offering.

AR's are definately overrated

AK's are underrated, mostly accuracy wise.

Kimber is overrated.

The FN p90/Five Seven are overrated.

Sig pistols are overrated.

HK p7 is underrated.

HK g3 series is overrated.

The 9mm cartridge is underrated.

The .357 is overrated.

12 gauge buckshot is overrated, mostly for the mystical "wall of lead" reputation

I take it you wouldn't mind wearing a target on your shirt while I test out the 'innacuracy' of my M44 at 100 yards?

The FN P90 is up there for the same reasons M1 Shooter said; way too much for no increase in performance.

Now, personally speaking, I don't like ARs. I don't like how they defecate where they eat (direct impingement) and I have seen WAY too many double feeds at the local rifle range to be comfortable with one.
