After years of ME nagging my wife, she is now wanting to get a pistol to carry for self defense. Recent local break-ins, and national headlines, have convinced my wife that a pistol along with proper training, could potentialy save lives. She is not a big gun person, but has recently gone shooting with me and the kids and enjoyed it. For my birthday she got her CCW license. :D Awesome! That was a better present than getting me another gun.
I have carried for many years, usually a small frame revolver along with my trusty NAA black widow. I'm a revolver guy, they just look sexy to me. ;)
My wife has tried all my guns, but hasn't really been drawn to any of them. I've been saving up some cash for a pistol she can pick out for x-mas. So....

I was wanting some examples to show her and why your WIFE chose that peticular pistol.
Also, what it is carried in, i.e. pocket, purse, holster, ankle, etc. and why they chose to carry that way. Pics of ccw setup would be awesome.

Thanks again for everyones input.

My wife was staunchly antigun until an encounter with a known felon covered in prison tats. We got her professional instruction and used a friends borrowed Glock 19. I took my wife to a local range that has a remarkably complete variety of rental guns. She handled and shot a half dozen different pistols. She ended up with a Glock 19 carried in a Galco holster purse. She is scheduled for her third renewal class in a few weeks and will not consider a smaller lighter pistol. She shoots the 19 that she has carried for years with absolute confidence.

Nice guns. Those are both pretty bulky though, IMO?
I forgot to mention, she has small hands, and developing carpel tunnel from typing. So I was thinking of something small like a .32 seacamp or NAA gaurdian. .380 auto's and possibly 9mm should be ok, just not the snappy ones.
We are going to the manchester firing line to check out there selection this weekend. Unfortunitly, a lot of the small auto's I had in mind for her, they do not rent. Maybe after shooting a few auto's she will like my little .38 special more?

Chief's Special or an SP 101. And she shot competition for a few years. She will hit what she aims at.

I’m going to get a hard time but by wife loves the judge public defender. She has it loaded with the first 2 rounds 00,then 2 rounds of PDX defense rounds followed with one 45 round.

My wife carried a Kimber Ultra .45 for a while but went to lighter P238. However, she has taken a liking to the M&P Shield. She is also a Black Belt.

I chose the Glock 19 for my wife and, supposedly, I'd use the Beretta 92A1. But these days I am loving the Glock 19 way more (waiting on some new grips for the Beretta, see if those work better). She shoots the 19 at the range when we go practice together, and seems fine with it. She is not LOVING it; it's just the gun that her husband selected for her, in case of Bad Times Ahead, and she says she likes the Glock look and feel (some people think the Glock is ugly, as we know).

At the LGS one time, she took a fancy to a .380 but both me and the LGS guy explained it's a less powerful round. LGS guy even said the .380 is probably the least power you can go before you really lose reliability in stopping a threat. My wife liked the gun just because it was cute and compact (I forget exactly which .380 it was).

Then on another occasion, as I was looking at the Glock 36 (sub/slim .45 ACP) she handled it and said she loves it. Of course, she hasn't actually fired any .45 ACP yet.

So, one day, when and if I do get the Glock 36, she can shoot it. Of course, if she then decides she loves it, I am going to end up with the Glock 19 handed down to me (unmarried guys might not understand haha). So, maybe I won't let her shoot it or maybe I will put in +P+ .45 ACP when she asks to try it out.

LOL

I favor large service pistols and carry a 1911. My wife can shoot those just fine, but she doesn't want to carry anything that large. She does, however, like the 1911 manual of arms, so she opted for a SIG P238 which rides in a High Noon Public Secret w/straps. I was surprised that she went for IWB over pocket carry, especially with a gun that small, but there you have it.

This belongs to my wife, of all the guns she could choose she liked this 9mm Kimber the best, well maybe it is a toss up with her Sig 2022, but that is too large to actually carry.

Nice kimber, I can only hope she doesn't take a shining to one though. Cause what she wants is what she gets. I don't even carry a piece that nice, the EMP is on my wish list though. I like the p238, sounds like all the bugs were worked through with the earlier models. I really want a p938, could have a matching set, how cute...

A cell phone....thats hilarious, b/c i can't even get my wife to carry that. Much less ANSWER it.

Hahaha. Well, this is a tangent but hopefully justified:

We got my mother in law a cell phone (for safety) and she began to get increasingly good at using it (she is not a "tech person"). So she started calling people with it. All well and good.

However, she hardly ever answers it. It is either buried inside her handbag where nobody can hear it (much less my mother in law; no they do not read THR hahaha) or it is turned off, the battery dead, or she left it at home, etc.

So everyone is fairly annoyed at that.

Then one day she tried calling someone and there was no answer, and she said out loud "Oh it's so annoying! Why does he have a cell phone if he is not going to answer it!"

Everyone in the room burst out laughing. But of course, she just said "Humph!" when we made comments about pot/kettle and glass houses.

Wife carries a S&W M&P 9c in a straight-drop Blade-Tec kydex OWB, usually, although she'll sometimes borrow a Galco Concealable from me (for when she wears tighter blouses/jackets). Also carries same pistol in "Pistol-Packin' Mama's" or Coronado Leather purses with shoulder straps and built-in holders (rip-apart velcro'ed pistol compartment).

She selected this pistol a few years after claiming my beloved W. German SIG P-228 (eventually decided the M&P compact was lighter, smaller and she liked the trigger pull better).

Wife also packs a First Defense 360 1.3% MK-4 O/C when she carries a purse ...

After more than 25 years of marriage, I finally figured out it's better to let one's wife choose her own carry gun than choose one for her. If she doesn't like shooting the piece, and can't shoot it well, it's no fun for her and she's not gonna want to pack.
