What gun do you use for Home defense??

I have the following loaded and always close:

SigPro 2340
Taurus 605
Kel-Tec P32

All the other toys are in the safe. The ones that are out are all part of my reuglar carry routine currently.

I use a 12 gauge 870 with buckshot. Handguns are not in the same league as a shot gun and I would only use for backup or or if I didn't own a shotgun. If I had to defend myself I want something that will put some down first shot.

I have:
Springfield Armory G.I. 1911
NEF single-shot 12 w/5 00 buckshot shells in a butt cuff

I know the single shot is not great but it is my only shotgun and it gives me an option other than the pistol, without going to the SKS(Which is in the safe along with several loaded stripper clips).

If i had my choice it would by my .22LR winchester pump loaded with HP's. 11 rounds, pump action, lower risk of over pentration, short length.

Instead i have to make do with a short sword.

i study renaissance swordmanship and have numerous weapons of this type around the house [both rapiers, and cut and thrust swords] that said, my hd weapons are a customized saiga 12 gauge with a m3 light and a glock 22 with a lasermax unit and m3 led light. my biggest problem is that i have a pretty good collection and i get these strong urges to change weapons all the time. it's hard but i resist and stick with my 1st choices.

When I was younger, I bought a bunch of swords from Ebay (Cheaper than guns, and a bit more shiny). I've still got them in my closet, as well as a bunch of knives on my bookshelf (along with the books). I could use my flamberge against an intruder, if I could lift it in time...

Yeah, I think I'll stick to my S&W 625.:)

Here's my line up:

A rechargable stinger light, a .308 HK G3 and .223 AR15 at bedside.

A Sig 239 in 40 S&W and a 4" S&W .500 on night stand.
(Yes, a S&W 500. I don't have any kids so I'm not worried about over penetration)

Also have an HK USP .45, Glock 29 10mm, and a 1911 (among others) ready to roll in other rooms.

I have 5 GS dogs in the house-they all sleep in my room too, so I probably wouldn't need to open my safe. Hopefully the photos of 4 of them will upload.

Ever tried to sneak into a house, undetected, that is being guarded by a poodle? They wont attack, but by God they'll make your ears bleed.

Keep a poodle by your bedside, and you'll never let worry keep you awake. First hand experience. :D

We walk our dogs past a house that has 2 white poodles every morning, and we are very quiet, but like you say, those poodles don't let anybody by without giving a pitch- and they go BANANAS every morn when they see all of our GSDs-too funny. Our dogs look at them silently like.. "what the heck?"

I carry my .40 glocks and/or my S&W 36-9 at work and off duty, but at home my primary HD guns are the Mossberg 590 w/ 00 Buck, Ruger p-95 with 124 +p GDs and the S&W 686-4 with 158g 38spl +p lswhp strategically located throughout the house. My wife and sons are trained in their use and quite proficient with them. The sound of racking a pump shotgun is the universal language for most BGs to get the heck out of there.

G17 with a couple of regular capacity magazines. Also keep a Surefire 6P handy.

well, seeing as I just got a new digital camera, and they say a picture is worth a thousand words, I'll answer the question this way:

+1

And on that note...

Here is my pistol (the fullsize comes home on Sunday!)...

20 gauge Winchester pump with #4's. Sometimes a .45 or .40 caliber handgun when out in the yard.

I use a Remington 870 loaded with sluggers as primary. The Sig P220 loaded with Silvertips on standby for those pesky warewolves  lol.

.40 cal Taurus PT 100 w/ 11rds of JHP's, and if need be a Mossberg 12 ga.
Keep a .25 cal Walther Model 8 and an H&R 9shot .22 wheel gun locked up in a case.

This guy wins in the HD contest.

Using a handgun for HD is as silly as carrying a shotty concealed.

Put me down for an 18" Rem 870 Express Magnum with 6 rounds of no. 4 shot. I don't trust the life of my family to the inferior ballistics of handguns.

What is that - looks like a Glock 33?? What magazine capacity?

Looks the right size for a backup weapon. I want one.

Not sure what it is (maybe an HK), but it's not a Glock.

My home defense weapons are many, with firearms being just a portion of the total package, but the two firearms I rely on are my concealed carry gun (Glock 22) and my Remington 870 (loaded with 00 buck).

First up is the Springfield 1911-A1 Condition1 on bedside table, 4 spare mags right there, too. Then comes the Maverick 88, with 6 #4 Buckshot. After that, I get out the Most Serious Artillery...US Rifle Cal 30 M1. Popularly Known As "The Garand".
