What gun do you want in your hand?

There's time for one shot. Your angle to the Bad Guy allows a clear shot at the torso and head. Distance is the classic 7 yards, across the room, no obstructions.

Is this person facing toward me, or away from me?

If he's facing me, the one gun I would prefer to have in my hand is my old Ruger Single-Six, with the .22 mag cylinder installed.
The reason for this is that I have fired this gun somewhere in the neighborhood of 250,000 times, and can literally write my name with it, at 7 yards. Mr. badguy would have one very small hole straight through not just his eye, but his pupil, and into his brain.

If he's facing away from me, I'd rather have the S&W M66 that I had customized, here a few years ago. It isn't quite as accurate, but it'd turn his brains to jelly, with little chance of glancing off the rounded surfaces of the perp's skull. ( No, I wouldn't want to have to take the risks with this one of making the eye shot, or risking the bullet skidding off the bones if I wasn't dead-on with the shot. ) ( Facial bones are more angular, and much more apt to "turn" a bullet than the back of a skull is. )

Maybe I'm crazy, and maybe I'm wrong, but under these very specialized circumstances, those are my choices.

S&W .500 MAGNUM HOLLOW POINT. Between the eyes! That way the rest of the scum can read in the paper what will happen to them!

I wouldn't grab any of my handguns. I'd grab the 870, 0Buck, and put the Green Tru-Glo in between his eyes. Anybody know a good cleanup crew? ;)

Well, don't currently have any ammo for my .45, the magazines for my glock 9mm aren't loaded up, so I'd hafta go with my carry piece... the trusty makarov. If I suddenly had a loaded magazine for my .45 I would prefer that but I just gotta go with what is ready.

Handgun, no question...CZ 75. I have a CZ 40P and KelTec P11 that I wouldn't even consider for accuracy shots.

Anything else, the HiPoint carbine. Sucker is pretty damn accurate with the red dot.

Taurus Model 65, 4" barrel, currently loaded with .357mag 125grn JHPs (sometimes loaded with 38spl+P 129grn HydraShok JHPs). Main reason is because tis is the gun I shoot with the most, and my only other option would be a little .380 auto.

Double tap to upper torso, follow up shot to head. "Between the eyes" sounds good, but I'm not 100% confident I could make it under that sort of pressure - I know I could hit closer to center mass and, even if it wasn't an instant kill, it'd probably keep him from stabbing.

Keep your options open

I always have mags for a handgun (1911) and rifle (AR-15) loaded and a shottie with a full mag tube, so I opt for the shotgun in the house. I also opt for a center of mass aim, too much variable in a head shot on an unimpeded target. It's a life at stake, not bragging rights over a perfect head shot. My humble opinion.

I don't keep much in the safe 'loaded' but there are... a few loaded magazines for an FEG hi-power clone in 9mm (my IDPA pistol) 115 gr Winchester silvertips, a few speedloaders for my Colt Magnum Carry with 158gr Federal Hi-shock sjhps and a STOUT 158gr pure lead semi wadcutter load, and several moon clips for my 1917 Colt New Service Army .45ACP... with 230gr Federal Hydra Shocks and ball ammo.

ANY of those would be sufficient, but the old 'warhorse' has some serious intimidation factor and is an ACCURATE old cuss. Ever see the business end of a New Service? Ever see one shoot?

There is a GI pouch of a dozen Winchester 2.75 inch 12 ga 1 oz. slugs beside the safe... I can and have loaded my Remington Sportsman 12 Magnum pump shotgun on the run before...

I mean really the whole SAFE is open... so many choices.

Ruger Redhawk in .44 magnum, the most powerful handgun I have ought to be the best chance for instant incapacitation. Also revolvers are less likely to malfunction on any single shot.

My firearms in the safe are unloaded. Therefore I would grab the loaded 870(OO Buck) or S&W 64 (loaded w/158 gr SWCHPs)and aim toward the outer eye(farthest from the victim to lessen the chance of hitting him/her) and eliminate the threat.tom.

I'd be more confident in my ability to hit with a thrown axe than a firearm, which is saying something. Seeing as how my choices are limited to a .380 mousegun with TMJ ball... :banghead: Must make a note to get to the range this weekend. And find some Speer hollowpoint.

If I had a safe and it was stocked, I'd want it to be filled with lasered AR goodness, or something like that (better, but less likely, is a H&K G3 of some sort). Preferably with a green laser, for the sake of rapidly getting it on target without having to line up sights.

Failing that, probably a lasered Sig of some kind. Nah, a 229 in any serious caliber, as long as it'll eat Golden Sabers.

I'd much rather it be someone else's safe :)

If was my soon to be x-wife I would need to consider. Do I want to really get my pistol dirty. But if was one of my girls then would be my 1911 and a head shot.

Handgun Choice

Either my SW 686 357, Colt 45 Combat Elite, Ruger Blackhawk 41 Mag, SW 629 Mag, Ruger Vaquero 357, Tanfoglio Witness 45, or my Taurus 445 snubnosed 44sp.
Any of them would do the job. Shot placement would be upper body.
I would empty the gun in him if the position of the loved one(s) allowed it.
My lawyer can sort it out later.

I've got a lot of handguns, but I think the top 5 choices would be:

Glock 22 - 40S&W
Sig P220 - 45ACP
GI Colt 45 - 45ACP
Taurus PT92 - 9mm
Browning HP - 9mm (only below the Taurus because it doesn't like hollowpoints)
Glock 26 - 9mm

Hmmm, two Glocks on the list, they must be doing something right. If I had a 10mm Glock it would probably take the first spot and there'd be 3 Glocks on the list. Maybe next year!

I'm ruling out guns like my .44mag revolver or my Contender with a 45-70 barrel. Sure, you only need one shot, but you never can tell when there's another threat that's just out of sight. Fast follow up shots are a must for me.

You're home, tinkiering with the guns, so the safe is open, and your full collection of handguns is there in front of you. You hear a loved one scream, grab a handgun, and run to see what's wrong. You find loved one being held by a Bad Guy, Bad Guy has knife in hand, arm raised, and appears to be about to plunge the knife into the chest of your loved one. There's time for one shot. Your angle to the Bad Guy allows a clear shot at the torso and head. Distance is the classic 7 yards, across the room, no obstructions.

Which of your handguns do you want in your hand at that moment?
Where do you aim?

Under those circumstances -- Ruger P90 or S&W Model 19, preferably the Ruger, because I know I can hit what I point it at with those guns at that range.. Center of mass, because that's all the precision I'll probably be able to manage in a tunnel vision inducing high stress fight or flight situation.

Need to load up some more .45 and go shoot plates with the Ruger soon.

Either my Sig 226 or AMT(chock full o' Wilson parts) Hardballer.

Head shots at that range with either would be simple.

I'd prefer to use my Colt M-4 Sporter though.

It'll be my Glock 33.
It's my carry gun, I'm familiar with it and it's very accurate.

Single Corbon 125 gr. .357 Sig to the head and a follow up shot to make sure he doesn't recover.

For a head shot at 21 feet, my handgun of choice would be my finely tuned 686 plus with a 4" barrel and rubber grips. Best shooting revolver that I have ever owned. Would probably also go for a fast second shot to the torso.

Well, since I wouldn't have prior knowledge of what was about to happen, I'd probably grab what I'd grab in any HD situation- my 870P. If I knew EXACTLY that it was just that above situation, I'd probably grab the M1 or the 10/22. Like a scalpel....

I wonder about those of you who'd use buckshot - the BG is holding your loved one in his arms, so you'd be as likely to hit him/her with part of the shot pattern.

What kind of choke are you using? At 25 paces my 870, stoked with Hornady 2 3/4" OO low-recoil buck makes approximatly fist sized patterns.

Handgun: Colt 5" 1911 w/Federal LE 230gr +P
Rifle: Marlin 1895M in .450 Marlin
Headshots all the way
