Imagine this scenario: The rulers of wherever you live are contemplating a total gun ban, and this time they will get away with it. You have found a way to hide one single handgun, a single box of ammo, and a handful of gunsmithing tools and spare parts, the rest of your guns and gun related items you loose. This gun will have to cover all your defensive needs for the rest of your life, and the following restrictions apply:

- There are no gunsmiths anymore. If your gun breaks down, and you can’t fix it yourself, you have no gun anymore. You can however have a gunsmith do work on your weapon before the ban takes effect, if there is anything you would like to have done to it.

- You cannot practice shooting. You can dry fire, but actually discharging the gun will with 100% certainty be heard by someone who will alert the police immediately. You will only do this when your life or the lives of those you love depends on it.

- The gun you choose can be no larger than a 4" revolver in the 686 or GP100 class, or you will not be able to hide it well enough.

Now, what gun will you choose? What spare parts will you stock up on? And what precautions would you take to keep it operational throughout your lifetime?

I have the Ultra CDP, and would say the same thing. The reason being is that it is small enough to conceal, but very easy to knock down a target accurately at 25-yards. My scandium j-frame is small and easy to conceal, but worthless (for me anyways) at over 7 yards.

S&W 686+Mtn.Gun. Good capacity of 7shots. That way I'll not have to worry about magazines. Durability would be no problem either. Also, it'll wear Pachmyr Compac Presentation grips for concealability enhancement.

Lets see... I won't be able to get it fixed if it breaks, so it must be bomb-proof. I have little room to hide it so it must be small. I can't practice so it must be inherently accurate. Hmmm...

Probably a Glock 27, 29, or 30. More than likely the 30. Not my most desired choice, but I'm limited here, eh?

If space was less of a concern, Sig P220 or maybe a good 1911 Gov't.

If space was of no concern at all, Remington 870 without question.

-T.

EDIT: To keep it operational, I clean and oil often. Maybe once a month. More as I become reminicent of when I used to be a free man. I store it in a silicone gun sock like a Bor-Stor.

Spare parts... whatever I could get my hands on and fit into my storage area.

I'd try to have a gun light or laser of some sort. A Lasermax would be ideal. However, it occurs to me that I may not have to hide a gun light. I could just say I had it from back when I was free. So a Surefire or Streamlight might be fine even without the space.

Colt Commander, all steel version. Perhaps a Glock.

Revolvers that break aren't easy or fast to fix.

I have an Ultra CDP as well but I wouldn't trust it to be as reliable as a larger-size M1911.

the goverment should never be able to take away your guns...

because if they can take away one right they can take away the rest. :what:

however if this were to happen i would have to take an sp-101 compact and durable and .357 does a good job

if i could hide it better i would go with a good 1911 and spare parts.

don't forget you can use other things as weapons for self defense

I personally would be torn between a 1911 and a Glock 17 or 22. I know how to work on a 1911 better but I don't think I would need to work on the Glock as much.

.357 magnum det är ju perfekt...jag har två stycken i huset...ammunition är inte så där jätte dyrt heller...

G17, spare recoil/mag springs, spare parts set. A complete set of gunsmithing tools for this gun= a couple of punches.

Too bad this is the handgun section. I'd say my Saiga.

Ninja, I see you live in Scandinavia. Are you expecting something to happen out your way?

I find it amusing that given one gun only, forever and ever, some would pick a 5-shot mini-revolver. An absolute no-brainer, Glock-pick your caliber!

Wouldn't matter. When they came to take away my guns they would eventually pry my cold dead fingers out of the trigger guard of the last one I fired.

In this purely hypothetical scenario, the price of the ammo isnt the limiting factor, only the space in which I can hide it. What guns did you say you have? And though I appechiate swedish, I think we should keep the discussion in english for the sake of the other members :)

Not right now, but it will happen sometime soon. Handgun violence is climbing exponentially in the last few years, and the local rulers are very eager to do something that will make the public feel better. Knowing how they think, and knowing in how little regard they hold my rights as an individual, I can only assume that a totla ban is not very far away. At any rate I would not break the law, this

Thinking the same thing. As long as its a revolver.
Semi autos can never have that long life cycle with all the moving parts.
I dont know the prices in Sweden but I think 18-20euros / 50box is jätte dyr,
but luckily I reload and even cast my own bullets so....2.30e/50 is nicer
