What gun for this situation? A hypothetical question.

M1911A1 is the simple choice, the same one my Grandfather carried in WWII, combat tested soldier approved. 1911 has been around for almost 100 years and still going strong.

With that said, I say knowledge is power. If you had the opportunity and the foresight to see this coming then there is no reason not to be able to fix or build any part needed for your selected weapon. (gunsmiths are people too) Heck probably the best firearm you could have is one you built from scratch by hand. Learn metallurgy, and become a machinist maybe even include some chemistry lessons to make everything you need from powder to bullets to the firearm itself.

In the end they would have to ban and burn books, people would be next.

Slippery slope all the way.

P.S. Take away all the guns and only criminals will have guns. Funny thing / sad fact is, your now a criminal.

I'll post this w/o reding and being influenced by responders

Answer*:

I've lined up my 1911 full size side-by-side with my
S&W 686P 4" Bbl. - pretty much the same O.A.L.
hheight, but the 1911 is narrower. So, I'd
buy several internal parts, recoil springs, etc. Another
barrel from Jarvis in .45 ACP to go with the .400
CorBon, the new bvarrel would have a threaded extension
for a suppressor. Add a .22 LR Conversion kit incl.
SLide, barrel, spring, and magazine.

* Of course to score maximum points with the O.P.'s .sig
line the answer is

CZ 75B choose your flavor in 9MM, and buy the Kaddett
.22 LR COnv. kit. with the same caveat of spare parts,

One box of ammo, well, I'll just get a really big box...

I would take my Colt Police Positive Detective in .38 with a couple extra main springs and a box of semi wadcutters. I'm proficient with the gun, it hits where I aim atleast, its compact, and reliable.

That being said...its VIVA LA REVOLUTION time and they're not getting any of my weapons...maybe all my ammo, that I'll give them one at time.

Glock 19 with a second barrel and rebuild kit. At least a half dozen extractors and one replacement set of springs. My box is ranger +p 9mm. The 10,000 reload components would be stored also.

FN 5.7
When the comic book storm troopers come to get me, it's guaranteed to defeat their vests. Then, I got a rifle or 2 and some ammo.

But, I'd probably just leave the country, really.

My sister and her family live in Norway, where it's very hard to own a gun indeed.

In your situation, I'd pick a revolver. I'm not sure which one, but a Ruger would be a safe choice.

With all due respect to your scenario, this one right here is the one I'd keep hidden. It's an N frame, but it's small enough to hide out.

The do all be all in my mind is a .44 - load it up, load it down, light bullets, heavy bullets - anything you want to do, it does it.

Trijicon sites for night work, legendary 629 dependability accuracy and action, total custom work by Mag-Na-Port...yep, this is the one I'd be hanging onto.

so you pick your favorite gun of choice, you hide it with all that you need to feed it and repair it. then what ?? you can't use it or you will be locked up or worse. seems to me that your trying to close the barn door after the horse has got out.

Glock 21 SF .45 with 3 mags (with +4 extensions). Basic spring kit with rebuild pieces. But you also have to kind of correlate with what the local authorities/Military are carrying caliber wise.......that way you can feed off of their stockpiles if needed.

I have many that would work for me in this situation.4" model 65 shoots everything POA,3 3/4" 45 colt vaquero birds head plenty of horse power on tap.4" 610 smith 10mm power and fast reloads, delta elite or springer gi heck I'd even say my p7psp damn accurate. all are 100% dependable.

Not so sure about the 4 inch thing but I wouldn't waste time hiding gunsmithing stuff. You couldn't store enough to cover most situations. Better to have Guns noted not to break much. Rather I would hide Two guns . What guns, my favorite is Ruger P97DC ( 7 years never a failure) but to meet your shorter size I like the Walther P99 in 40 .cal ( also a great track record). Blitz

When this happens it is not time to bury them. It is time to use them. My choice will be my Remington model 700 in 308.

Blah blah blah...everything breaks sooner of later. The nice thing is such a situation can't happen. If you have a working gun in a police state, well, you can always get another weapon.

Many would do

It is very hard to pick one gun when there are so many good ones. I'd stay away from the semi-autos and especially from anything made out of polymer. I don't like plastic guns and I never will. Semi-autos also seem to wear out faster than wheel guns. I don't like little sissy calibers like .38 special, 9mm or smaller. They just don't get the job done in many cases.

I'd take any good, double action, revolver that is steel framed. I'd want the gun to be made of good quality stainless steel of course. I'd buy 6 each of every spare part you can get for the gun and 1,000,000 rounds of 240 to 300 grain Hornady XTP JHP ammo. The gun would have to be .40 caliber or above. Preferably a .45LC, .50AE or .500 magnum.

Just my opinion. I'm sure everyone has their preferences and many will disagree with a big bore revolver. I like the feel and the action of a big, heavy duty, large bore wheel gun. You can be darn sure that what ever you hit with one of these will not be coming in your direction after 1 or 2 rounds in the right place. Of course it really doesn't matter where you hit them with these calibers. If you hit them in the leg, they will still be minus a leg and crawling in the opposite direction from you.

The only thing you have to worry about is what is on the other side of your intended target because I guarantee every one of these calibers will come out the other side of whatever man or beast you shoot with them.

Missed the single box of ammo part

Do they make 1,000,000 round boxes of ammo? If not, I guess I'd get the biggest box of ammo I could find for my big bore wheel gun.

1 box of ammo? C'mon, where's the stash. Nobody is going to make it through life on a single box of ammo unless you are already 90 years old and got one foot in the grave.

You might as well buy a dadgum Raven MP-25 if all you get is 1 box of ammo.

Sheesh!
:D

I'd take my Smith 620. Comfy enough for anyone to shoot, durable stainless steel. I'd stock up on......one set of all internal parts. Ammo-wise, probably load up the hottest .357 load I can.

Or, I could be a jerk, and say I'd take a threaded 1911, and hide a supressor somewhere in the house--unregistered, of course. That way, if I really needed, I could use my illegal stuff, not get heard, and not worry about the firearm itself--only the repercussions of what to do with the intruder.

If I were to have a pistol hidden, I'd make sure I could find ammo for it.

Better get used to oiling the garden if you know what I mean. ;)

My answer is a Glock, either a 17 or 21. I suppose most revolvers are ultimately more reliable, however I hate the d@mn things. I'm not giving up any guns though, so it won't matter regardless. I would certainly hope I'm no longer alive to see the day where an American has to hide a gun in their house out of fear of the government finding out.

My COP.357
But we're really not gonna go against the Gov. and break the law are we?

damn skippy we are...or at least I am.

My Gemini Customs Ruger SP101 3" .357mag. It does everything I could ever want a gun to do.

I'd have to say my ruger P95. I'd get a few recoil springs, firing pins, extractors, etc. before the ban happens so i'm ready for anything. And of course i'd keep an entire gun cleaning kit.

Really hope it doesn't come down to it tho. But if it does i will keep at least one gun.
