There are a few guns out there that I wonder who buys them and why. Either they are ugly or they are junk or just don't seem to fill a need. What surprises you?

Walther PPK, why spend the money on a gun that is only almost as good as a Bersa for 1/3 the price?

Makarov, with the lousy sights, trigger and ergos, why would anyone buy one? It is also a weird cal so you have to hunt for ammo as well. The Bersa can do everything the Mak can do and do it better.

S&W 500 Mag, just what is the point of this one? I assume it is fun but other than that why?

Desert Eagle, in addition to be big and ugly, they love to jam. I guess Hollywood hype is stronger than I thought.

Here is one I changed my mind on:
Springfield XD. At frist I thought it was just an uglier version of the Glock and a cheap ploy to grab some quick sales but then I handled one. I am going to buy one soon because I feel it is probably a better gun overall than the Glock.

Its cheaper, and as the owner of both a Mak and a Bersa, the Mak is the better made weapon and it will certainly still be firing when i am on my second Bersa. And i these days you seem to have to move the 9X18 out of the way to get at the .380 on most peoples shelves. Maybe it depends on location but 9x18 is FAR from scarce out here.

PPK:
Because they are beautiful and look like a gun the way a Harley-Davidson looks like a motorcycle.

Makarov:
Never did or will understand that one either

S & W 500:
.454 was getting too common and didn't make range buddies swoon anymore

Desert Eagle:
A S & W 500 for guys that don't like revolvers

Variety is part of the gun mystique. No one "needs" more than 2. One long gun, one hand gun, and maybe thats too many. All the rest fills the need for variety and collecting. Recently I had 8 smiths in 2 calibers,.38 and .500. Why? I don't know! .Those .500's tickles something in me that I can't explain. My wife shoots the 4", I shoot the 8" and the 10" is in the safe. And why 4 mod 64's? Cheap maybe but, why 4. I'm not a dealer. I don't plan on selling them. I can't explain why I buy what I do. It's a little unsettling to think about it. But as grandpa said, "if everybody liked the same thing, they'd all be after your grandma". I'm gonna go to the gun shop to look around. Bye!
good shootin

Does the PPK leak oil too?? :D

High Point...I'll never understand why.

probably the same reason why other people married their wives when there are better choices :p

as for the PPKs:
they came in first and is also quite pretty

the Makarovs:
they are simply there, some people have the money at that time to get them

the S&W 500:
since they can't buy cannons, they opted for this one

the desert eagles:
kinda nice on the shoulder holsters and owb's

I disagree you only need one handgun and one long rifle.
What if, heaven forbid, a person ever has to shoot someone attacking them? There's a good chance your weapon will be confiscated by the police, and you may not get it back for several months. What do you use for protection meanwhile if you only had one?

Anything in .40 S&W (there's a perfectly good 10mm out there that can be loaded down to .40 standards.... :D :D )

NAA Mini revolvers

This kind of attitude surprises me on THR.
I mean, are guns just for the rich?
There are lots of people who really NEED a gun and just don't have a money tree in the backyard.
These are usually the people who really need a gun, more than someone living in a better part of town.
There are some real diamonds in the rough out there, that most people dismiss without firsthand knowledge, which is a shame.
Case in point, the makarov.
A gun superior in my view to the much touted bersa, with a lot more accuracy potential.
I had a taurus I didn't like, does that mean that they're all no good?
Shoot 'em all, collect the set, and move on.

All kinds of weapons....

all kinds of folks. I'll probably never buy another Mak, but it was and is, IMHO, a dandy little pistol.

I understand why people buy Hi Point, Lorcin, Davis, all the cheap zinc framed striker fired autos. Money ain't easy to come by for some, and the $50/$60 a Phoenix .25ACP costs might be all they can afford. Next payday they get the ammo. Been there, done that. Getting a 9mm Hi Point is a huge step up, and they are quite proud of that.
I don't understand derringers, for anything but cowboy action matches. Thier day was a long time ago.

1.Cheap pot metal guns! Example's"Bryco,Jenning's,Loricin, and High Points!" :barf:

2.Glocks and any other pistol made out of tuperware! :cuss:

3.Cheap Eastern european or chinese military surplus crap!
