What handgun surprises you that people buy?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm - Does it affect Reliability, Durability, or Accuracy?
No, but the horrendous trigger pull sure does.

In all honesty, while I have my likes and dislikes (of which I am very adamant) as long as someone has a firearm that they are happy with, I'm not going to bag on 'em with any seriousness. Whatever gets people to the range.

I have had 4 Glocks and 2 NAA minis. Better not mock my 22s. :neener:

I'll flame on with Ruger Semis - if I wanted an ingot, I would go to Bethlehem steel. Ducking !!

Also Desert Eagle pistols - same theory.

The S&W 500. Too big, heavy, and over powered for any practical application. I am going to buy one, but see no need for them.

What exactly is lousy about Makarov ergonomics?

Actually, a better question would be, why would you call the ergonomics of any gun lousy. Different people have different hands. It may be lousy in yours, but it fits mine quite well, thank you. Other than that, they are inexpensive and reliable. What more could you ask?

As far as Hi-points, they are not in the same class as Lorcin and Jennings. They do not fall apart on first shot and they have a lifetime warranty. Why do people buy them? Because they are cheap. A Hi-point is probably the cheapest functional pistol in a common caliber you can buy. Some people buy them because that's all they can afford. Me, I bought one just to see what people were talking about.

I can't necessarily disagree with that, as I've shot one at the range using hardball, and shot it pretty accurately too. However, a co-worker of mine has one and it won't even hand-cycle hollow-points reliably without sticking.

For the record, both were 9mm.

Not really the guns, but the ammunitions they fire.
I don't understand why some people would bother to buy guns that fires uncommon ammo i.e. .32 long, .38 S&W, 9mm Largo....
I see people (mostly older folks) in the shows that really look for these type of guns. Well, maybe because they want to, and they can...That's reason enough for me!
Thank God its the U.S of A is where I live! :)

OH25shooter

Don't want to start a Glock bashing thread, but I'll say this, everytime I pull the trigger mine goes boom. Sometimes my M9 doesn't, why because I forgot to relase the decocker.
Ugly but simple. And simple is better when something hits the fan.

Rugers

Well, I have a Ruger .357 Police 6, it's an old wheelgun, stainless, but I love it. It's accurate and doesn't jam. If I was called up for the first Gulf War, it would have been in my bag

What gun

.380's while any gun is better than no gun, a .380 would just anger the BG.

Why do people buy?

This is my first post here, but I figure if everyone liked the same gun, the price on that model would sure go up.

Why do people buy cheap/inexpensive guns? (Not necessarly the same thing, I acknowledge.) Cause po' folks value their hides as much as those who are "less poor" shall we say. We have to remember that "Cheap or inexpensive are releative terms. To Bill Gats, a handbuilt custom gun is inexpensive. To a grandmother on Social Security, a $50.00 Raven might be expensive as all get out. And to that grandmother, it might be worth it's weight in gold.

One other thing.

.380's while any gun is better than no gun, a .380 would just anger the BG.

Does anybody REALLY believe this? I suppose dropping to your knees and sobbing "Please don't hurt me" is a better alternative?

I not only want my firearm to be the most dependable but it needs to look decent as well. This is why I will never own a Glock or Springer XD. I have handled, shot and handled again both of these guns and if one were given to me free I would trade them for something else. I know all you blocky gun lovers out there are ready to flame me but it is only my opinion.

The Beretta Neos .22 has got to be one of the ugliest guns I have every seen.....drf

I knew this thread would be ugly.

I glad there are several options for nearly every gun application I can think of.

There are lots of guns I wouldn't condsider buying, simply because the look or feel isn't right. That doesn't mean I think they're junk. Glocks, XDs, Sigs and S&W Autos fit here for me.

I'm not sure where the hate comes from for the 1911. There is not a more time-tested, battle-proven auto out there. Any unreliability issues attributed to the 1911 come from folks trying to get them to do things they weren't designed to do. Here we are only a few years from the 100th B-Day of the 1911, and many military special ops are returning to JMBs masterpiece after trying various "modern" pistols.

I love Ruger revolvers, but hate the ugly stamping on the new models.

S&W makes some nice six-shooters too, but they're over-priced.

Find something you like and can afford. Practice with your guns and keep them maintained. Enjoy!

Any handgun with a barrel over 8 inches or caliber larger than .45.

I just don't understand it. And honest, I don't care if you (the figurative "you", not the personal "you") choose to spend your money that way. But...I still just don't understand (shakes head).

Older LLama 45's. Just would not extract. Also have terrible luck with older S&W Model 39's.

Those single shot, bolt action pistols in rifle calibers. I just don't get it. Buy a rifle!

I guess that everybody's answers are right, from their perspective. Can't say I agree with all of it.
Anyway, I guess we can all agree that lots of choices are a good thing...

Glocks

life is too short to own an ugly gun.

Lots of good guns out there that work well but still look nice. The Glock just looks ugly.

As should have been noticed by now they build them for all kinds of tastes. Just because I don't like something there is no need for it to surprise me that someone else does.
