I just got $250 that I was not expecting so I am going to spend it on something fun. I am not asking what is the best gun for $250, just what handgun you would buy if someone gave you $250.

I think I should buy something that I would not normally buy. I have always wanted a Single Action cowboy type gun but never saw the need other than the fun factor. I also would consider a Tec-22. I saw one at the last gunshow for $200 in like new cond. and I kick myslef for not buying it. It has no use but it would be fun if it worked.

So what "found money" fun gun would you get?

I'd lean towards a nice robust .22lr or magnum revolver of the used variety and plenty of ammo. Something like a ruger single six would serve you all through your life, and with care could easily be passed down as a training/plinking/backpacking pistol.

250 will get you a nice used 357 of either Ruger or S&W variety

I have a bunch of those. I am looking for something off the beaten path.

"Used Ruger autoloader"
Had a few, they don't do much for me. I don't like Ruger Autos. Ruger revolvers are nice but their autos are clunky and chunky.

that is an option. That was on my list also.

A used J frame of some configuration or another. I see 36's, 60's even 49's in decent shape for around the $250 mark. Patience is the key.

I was just looking at the new SOG catalog this afternoon. There sure are some good deals in there on used guns.

Ruger GP100 DAO (the one with the bobbed hammer that looks like a Speed Six) $229.

S&W M38 Airweight (the model with the stainless cylinder and alloy frame) $289.

S&W M649 Bodyguard (stainless humpback) $295.

Star BM 9mm $139

Bulgarian Maks $129

Probably the best deal of all is just slightly above your price range. I just got a brand new CZ40B for $289 with two mags and it is wonderful. I've seen them slightly cheaper than that a few times when I didn't have money! And now there is a new one out, the CZ40-P which gives you the P-O1 frame with rail and decocker with the CZ40 slide. Looks nice and I'm seeing them for $299-$305. Hell of a lot of quality for that price! I was stunned by how well made my CZ40B was. Can't put it down. Here's a link to the new forum for the CZ40-P.

I vote Makarov, with enough money left over to buy a case of ammo.

Stay away from the Tec 22. I had one and it's the only gun I'm glad I lost in a fire.

It jammed a LOT.
It would fire without the bolt fully forward and blow the case

and those were it's good points.

The impression I got of the gun was it was supposed to be a very easy gun for the criminals to convert to full auto.

I also had a Tec 9 that would go full auto at embarrassing times. It shot a number of holes in my barn wall.

I know what you mean when you say.."it would be fun IF it worked"

dont waste your hard earned money on that,if it needs fixed, where you going to get parts at?intratec went out of biz long time ago.mpa makes a decent copy of a m11/9mm. if you like that kinda stuff.its current production and machined..not cast pot metal like some of the others.new they run in 250 neighborhood.they have a website.masterpiece arms.

the makerovs are decent made shooters, they shoot a 9x18mm round which is slightly shorter than the standard 9mm parabellum commonly used today in modern autoloaders..seen the guns for sale like new for around 130-170 bucks, the ammo runs around 5-10 a box depending on what you get,the ammo is available in many places.accurate little guns in my opinion.the makerov site has some research data to help as do all the makaraholics(me included) here that own em and love em.

lots of choices, guess youll never know till you see one that you like.research it before you spend.itll maybe save you a headache in the long run.

Pure fun?

Colt Walker cap and ball revolver replica!!!

Great flame, great smoke, great BOOOMMMMM, great fun!

Treat your wife or girlfriend to a really good dinner in a swanky restaurant. Like that, next time you come in to some unexpected money (but this time let's say 1000 bucks) she'll let you buy a really nice SIG 210 or a Auto Mag. Consider it as an investment on the future!

I just purchased a nearly new Ruger single six with the 6.5" bbl for $230. It came with both a .22lr and a .22 mag cylinder. Twice the fun for the money!
