Pocket guns with no safety require a pocket holster to cover the trigger no matter what. With a SA pistol with safety, it's less probable it would discharge. It would require two things going wrong, the safety getting flipped off, and then the trigger being engaged.
There is also the reality that a DA pocket gun means a long heavy trigger pull, and sometimes the individual has no choice but to give them up. Carpal Tunnel means you may have to carry a small SA with safety just to get a shot off. I sold the LCP and bought the P938 for exactly that reason.
It's not as absolute as some would make it out. And there are those who just drop an LCP in their pocket with no holster at all, which seems less safe than IWB with a Versacarry. Everybody makes their own decisions.
One of the significant issues with pocket carry is what holster is used, as the padded ones take up considerable room. My LCP with pocket carry holster took up more space than the P938 bare. What seems to be happening in holsters is using a lot of laminated fabrics to keep them comfortable, a reasonable goal. On the other hand, some custom makers simply use an elastic band stitched to a thin firm backer to hide the outline. How aggressively the gun is shaped has led to a lot of melt jobs in the past. SIG offers the P938 both ways.
What pants you wear have a big influence, just like carrying IWB. Tight jeans are really an expression of style, not function. If you are going to carry, you need to include the room for the pistol, so like it or not, you have to size up to get a reasonable amount of slack. Bigger pistol, more room.
There are other alternatives, like the inordinately expensive t-shirt holsters, shoulder holsters, ankle holsters, etc. It comes to mind that if a gun is better than no gun, but it must be concealed, then some kind of compromise will need to be made.
