What is everyone's favorite gun oil?

If I gave you the best oil recipe for pistols, and another for rifles..........would you use it?

Depends on what’s in it. I used to use mineral spirits to clean and sewing machine oil to lube. I’m pretty sure one could get away with that combo for quite some time.

Like I said though, I USED to use it.

I have tried dozens of different oils. There have only been a few listed so far that I haven't used at one point or another. The stuff I keep going back to is G96 for cleaning and HAWG grease for lubricating areas like slide rails and springs.

Mobil 1 5W20 synthetic motor oil
Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease
Hornady One Shot

I use Hoppe's #9 and Break Free CLP for cleaning, not lubricant.

Mpro 7 cleaner
Mpro 7 gun oil

It’s worked well for me, and I abhor change for no good reason.

When I was a kid I used my mother's sewing machine oil on my rifle and a lot of other things that needed oiling. After I left home I didn't have one of those nifty little metal sewing machine can oilers so I started using Outer's oil that came in a can with a plastic tip. Tell you what, that old rifle still runs fine. I switched to Mobil 1 because I use it in my jeep and there is always a little left to drain out of the jug plus it's probably as good a lubricant as can be found on the market today.

My wife is a dedicated quilter. She has owned her present machine for around fifteen years and it runs like a top. My mechanical lock gun safe developed a very hard to turn dial a few months ago. I finally sprayed some so called super lubricating oil around the dial and rotated it a lot and it loosened up---a little bit and then quickly went back to where it was before my lube job. I pulled the back cover off the door, removed the cover on the lock, and my wife asked if her sewing machine oil would work on it. Considering how hard she runs that machine I told her it probably would. Boy oh boy did it work. I have to be very careful to keep from over running the dial it moves so easily now. It wasn't this smooth and easy when brand new. I wouldn't hesitate to use it on any firearm.

Sewing machines run at much more extreme speeds than guns. They don’t have to deal with high pressure detonations constantly though and the crud that accumulates because if said detonations.

This thread got me off on a tangent researching the corrosion preventing properties of Mobil 1 synthetic, which led me to a very old THR thread about the topic and the discovery of a product I've never heard of before today--CorrosionX-- which is said by the people that have used it to be extremely effective at preventing corrosion and removing existing corrosion in certain instances. Needless to say I have a can inbound now to see what it's all about.

Please just use something! Any oil/ grease is preferable to leaving the gun susceptible to rust/ moisture/condensation.

I like Ballistol for my black powder guns. I like Breakfree and Lucas Extreme Duty for my smokeless guns.

If I was stuck without any of those, I would get a can of ATF fluid from an auto parts store and use it liberally.

This thread is a terrific reminder to run a nice, clean, oil-soaked fabric patch through all my firearms.
Not that any especially need it, yet always a good idea to ensure metal has a nice protective film.

If I'm taking any of my pistols out for sustained shooting then I use white lithium grease on slide where it contacts barrel hood and carry extra oil to lubricate barrel and slide as needed.

For cleaning, I use a 50/50 mix of Kroil and Shooter's Choice. Lube is Lucas oil and Lubriplate. Rig grease for rust prevention.
