I started to order some stuff from Midway a couple of times, but no more. Where are they, lower slobovia? Shipping costs are astronomical.

In both cases, I found the same items, at the same prices, elsewhere.

Most recent:
Midway- $44 shipping on a $36 order
Lock Stock & barrel- same order, $7.95 shipping.

the previous experience was very similar, though I bought from Able Ammo. What gives? Are they looking for a little hidden profit, or what? Anyone else noticed this?

I've ordered a ton of stuff from them and never had a problem. You have to check the box on the kind of shipping you want. Some express shipments are very expensive. I have mine sent USPS priorty. Midway has always been one of the very few firearm supply dealers who understand Alaska is part of the US and give that as an option. Many of the rest insist I use the much more expensive UPS or FedEx.

What kind of shipping did you select? Next 45 minute delivery by Leprechauns.

If you select UPS ground or USPS priority Midway's shipping isn't any more expensive than anyone else's.

I've ordered 3 times from Midway in the last month. UPS ground was only about 13 dollars, and I ordered a few shotgun and rifle stocks, along with mag and speedloader cases, a shotgun barrel clamp, etc. The other two orders were shipped USPS 1st class, since they were light weight items (holsters). These were between 3-4 bucks for shipping.

I ordered $150 worth of stuff a few weeks ago and shipping was $13. ordered $28 worth of stuff 15 minutes ago, and shipping was $12. I dont know why yours was $44 unless it was a hazmat fee or something.

Not out of line? Here's the pricing... roughly 3x more. The speed strips and target backing are very light. Weren't available, but I can get those locally.

2 Bianchi speed strips
1 HKS Speedloader
1 target stand
1 target stand backer

That is the EXACT same stand that LS&B shipped for $9.95. I don't see where the cost should differ for shipping. Dimensions/weight are the same.

OH, both items were less expensive, too.

Shipping costs are going up across the board. If you want horrible shipping costs, try Cheaperthandirt. They've gotten so bad, I don't order from them anymore.

They right next door to you or something? I wouldn't think shipping to KY would cost twice as much. I ship stuff via UPS all the time (usually to MO), and I know the rates are cheaper than what show up on Midway's checkout.

Midway has typically been higher than most other places. I try to buy from midway however i usually find myself going to cabellas. The prices are a lot better. Service is very good too. for loading parts i usually buy direct but in big bulk. The prices will be higher but the shipping wont be. Take Lee Precision for example. the prices of buying things from lee may be a tad higher. however the shipping is only 4.00. That does not matter on how much you order either. you can fill up your order to the max. $4.00 is the shipping charge. So you make out on the long run. Sorry but i have noticed for a while that midways shipping charges are usually higher than others. Now this may also be due to where we live .

Maybe you should call Midway. I plugged in a Louisville zip code and it was $16.65 for Priority Mail. Its still more than Lock Stock & Barrel, not bad considering size and weight.

Maybe I should call. I'd do business with them, if it wasn't for the ridiculous shipping charges. I know fuel is driving costs up, but comparison makes it obvious that something is seriously out of whack there.

Shipping does vary from vendor to vendor because some vendors will charge more for shipping, (read...make money from shipping costs), than others. There is a profit according to how much you charge for your shipping costs. I have not found MidwayUSA to be any different than most others. There are those that make more with hiding their profits in shipping charges, but I do not believe this is a problem with MidwayUSA. Plus they all get rebates from FedeX or UPS, based on their volume shipped.

No doubt shipping costs are going higher, some vendors will be slower to raise their rates, but will catch up soon. I suggest you buy it now to save money.

Just last week I was about to place an order for two rather inexpensive items with Midway as they were the only company I could find with both in stock.

Between the excessive shipping and the $3 handling fee (for any order under $25) I found it was actually cheaper to order from two different companies...

I have always had issues with shipping from them. Not only are they more expensive with shipping but their prices are higher with almost everything. I bought a mag button and the shipping cost as much as the mag button it's self!

With the current price of fuel, it cost's me $14.00 to travel to our local gun show's, I'm 50 miles from town, plus the $5 entrance fee, I might as well order on-line and pay shipping, its actually cheaper. 1000 40 S&W Ranier bullets come out to about $115 shipped, versus $100/1000 at the gun show + fuel + entrance fee = $119.
