What is the most accurate revolver you own?

S&W Model 629-1, 6" barrel.

This is the first handgun I owned. I have shot so many rounds through it that the bore is polished like glass, almost like I hand lapped it. For some odd reason this revolver and I make a great match that I have not been able to quite duplicate with my other handguns.

Got to be my 4" python. Been shooting it for over 30 years and it's as tight as when I first bought it.

Part of the reason you are seeing a lot of pythons in this thread is because that style colt, has a superior method of lock up, that keeps the bullet from bouncing off the forcing cone thus increasing accuracy.

Almost all my guns "out shoot" me. I am strickly an S&W man, and if I had to pick it would be my M25-2 6.5". I shoot really well with it, but as if to prove the point, a buddy of mine (smith357 on this board) borrowed it, and took second place in a statewide match....

My 1917 New Service Colt .45ACP... my other revolvers don't come close.

(Ok I only own a few... and for the record dad's Dan Wesson .357 maxes are scary accurate)

I've never owned an SW, but I've been shooting Rugers and Colts and DW's for a long time. My old re-blued Colt is the most dangerous revolver I own... because I can shoot it.

Sadly, it won't fit in that itty-bitty IDPA box.

ruger single six......

the lipsey's one (stainless 4 5/8") six shot groups inside a dime at 25yards
from a rest. Second most accurate is my 686-6 + with 4" barrel. From
a rest 7 shot groups inside a quarter at 25 yards from a rest. :D

For me it is my S&W Model 15, 6" barrel. One hole groups at 25' is common. Can't say anything about grouping behond 25' because my eyes are just too old. :)

Believe it or not, my most accurate revolver is my .44cal Ruger Old Army.
Using home- cast pure lead balls over 30 grs of FFFG, I can shoot cloverleafs at twenty yards.
I call it my "squirrel rifle".
Respectfully, Zeke

Hmmmm... I'm pretty sure that I get my best revolver groups with a Colt SAA, 2nd Gen, 5.5" .45 Colt firing my handloads of 250 grn SWC and 6.0 Red Dot.

I don't use a rest, so a lot has to do with the way this fine old handgun's ergonomics work for me.

StrikeEagle

My Colt 357. This is the predecessor to the Python. With good handloads, it shoots them all into one ragged hole from a rest at 25 yards.

But I like it because of how I can shoot it from field positions. It has the best trigger of any gun I've ever owned. I carried this gun my first tour in Viet Nam, and it never let me down.

Was my Taurus 669 blued, ported 6" in .357 Mag, but I sold it. My Super Redhawk 454, and S&W 646 are both close, but are taking some work to find a good accurate load. The 669 seemed to just be accurate with everything.

Smith and WEsson 5" Model 24 with about any 44 Spl round I want to stoke in it. 5 shots of a Keith bullet and 8 grs of Universal at 25yds into .733 inches outside to outside. Shot from sandbags.

Close runner up a Ruger GP 100 4" in Target Gray with Bowen Rear Sight, Action tuned, and Williams Firesight. Shooting a 173gr Keith bullet under more 2400 than I care to admit for a 5 shot group from sandbags at 25yds measuring .782 inches outside diameter to outside diameter.

In .22 LR it's my S&W 4" Model 18. In centerfire its my 5" SS Ruger Bisley in .44 Magnum. Dennis

Out of all my Smith's and Colt's, I'm afraid I have to say that my most accurate revolver is my Dan wesson believe it or not.

S&W 686 with 3" bbl, bought here on the trading post! It is thee happy gun for me.
The second best would be a Rossi 518

7 1/2" Ruger Super Redhawk .454.
Puts full-house 300 grainers into one hole at 25 yards.

Question: Those that say they have 629-1 or -2, wouldn't it be a 6.5"? I thought the -1 and -2 were produced before S&W cut back that last half inch.

Same as Mr. Jennings. My S&W Model 17-4 firing Federal green tag ammo will shoot 1 inch groups off sandbags at 25 yds. My local gunshop took it in trade a few minutes before I stopped in. It looks NIB, had the Paperwork and box. I got it for $200 plus tax. The trigger on this revolver is better than anything I've seen from S&W's Performance Center.

may be cheating, but......

My Bob Jones built PPC gun...1 1/4" diameter 6" Douglas barrel, Aristocrat Tri set sight rib, incredible double action only trigger job. Built on a new 66-6 4", converted to .38 only.

Followed closely by a Travis Strahan built PPC gun that started life as a K38. Now has a 1" Douglas barrel that was slab sided, excellent DAO trigger job, full sight rib, etc. Many, many, many rounds through this one. M19 in pic with Strahan gun isn't bad either. :D
