I'm looking for an optic for a M4 style rifle but in no way can or will spend that much for a Trijicon. Love their optics but just don't dig the 5.56 enough to spend that much. What options do I have ? I been looking at the Burris AR536. I've read good things, but don't know anyone with one to see for myself

In a similar situation I narrowed my search down to the Burris AR336 (3x mag), Vortex prism sight (not sure if released yet), and the Primary arms compact 2.5x scope. I ended up going with the PA, pretty happy so far, as long as you arent expecting a target scope. Only have about 60 rounds through it so far, but clays on the 100 yard line were about the limit of its precision. The center dot can be hard to pick up against bright colored targets. The "horseshoe" is very visible and would make close in targets very easy to acquire quickly. PA shipped very quickly and without incident.

Thanks I'll have to check those out, sounds like what I'm looking for. I just saw Cabelas has one out too a 3x tactical prisim

I have a 536 and I love it, just don't trust the factory Loctite on the mounting screws.

It lacks the fine cross hairs the ACOG has but is very effective out to 400 yards ( I haven't tried it at longer range)

For under $500 you can definitely go with a quality 1x RDS like the Aimpoint PRO or Eotech. Then add a magnifier to the setup depending on what you need.
