What kind of gun would you want above all?

Top o' the pops for me!

A Johnson Light Machine Gun.

I like the system, the novelty and its heritage. It plays to the lineage of my own Special Forces like no other firearm.

Then -
Swedish "K"/M45... Suppressed would be niiiice!

Todd.

Because when a man with a pistol meets a man with a rifle, the man with the pistol will be a dead man.

There are an awful lot of details missing from this scenario. Very important details. It is impossible to come to a conclusion based simply on what you provided.

Could the OP rephrase the question more clearly and we can start all over again.;)

Glock 19.

Why?

Millions and millions of people's considered choice of this pistol is reason enough.

It is an excellent choice for the needs of most people.

Based on the scenarios given in the OP, and that it has to be the same for each one, a 12-gauge 870.

I would make that choice because an M1917 .30-06 would be an excellent rifle to have in the Alaskan bush, but is overkill for home defense.

A CZ-75 is great for "bump in the night" noises, but not so much for moose and bears.

And if I could run out of a house fire with only one, I wouldn't want to have to make the wrong gun work for the wrong scenario.

Like concealed carry?

If you had just one gun for any reason; you hear some oddly human noises at an ungodly hour or there's a fire and you only have enough time to save one gun, or your plane goes down over the wilderness; what kind of gun would you want above all else assuming that it had be the same answer every time and why would you choose what you did?

There were no limitations in the original post. I added the emphasis, but the OP said "any reason"... He went on to list some examples... it could be a plane crash, a bump in the night, or add your own scenario (because that would fall under the category of "any reason" :) ). My scenario might be, I leave the house to go out to eat at a restaurant. There's no way I'm carrying a Remington 870 or a .30-06 with me. I'd choose something that I can conceal, if needed. Something that has good power, good capacity, and something that I am very good at handling. It would be my Smith & Wesson M&P40.

When I was 21, I wanted to have a vast collection with many different kinds of firearms. I felt like I had to own all the different representative models that were timeless and classic. Of course, I couldn't afford all of those brands so I spent a lot of time dreaming about this wonderful collection. Over the years, I have bought some. I have shot a lot of different things that friends of had. I have also sold some of the ones that I shot certain joy but no longer felt the need to own. Now that I am 47, The only firearms that interest me are the ones that I will actually use on a regular basis. As such, I need to have a shotgun because I take that out almost every week to go shooting. It is mostly for shooting in a trap league. However, I do take a certain number of self-defense classes with it and it is the weapon of choice to defend the home. I have hunted with it as well, and in general I just enjoy shooting it. So for sure, I would need to own a least a shotgun. But to be honest, there a few other things I would really feel like I should own. I should have a pistol of some kind so I could conceal carry and have a back up farm when I am out hunting etc. Also I feel like I should have to conserve rifles. One kind of rifle should be either a bolt relive her action so that I could go hunting. The other kind of rifle I should have should be some sort of semi auto magazine said Rifle so that if I needed to use one to defend myself, I have something. If I were going to go deeper I would want to either duplicates or triplicates of a small collection. That way if one breaks, I have a back up and I still have an extra one laying around. Also, in doing this I know longer have to worry about the whims in fancy of the government regarding what I would own. I would have my collection, and enough of them so that I would never ever have to worry about purchasing again. Obviously, I will get enough magazines and spare parts so that I am pretty much independent of having to get anything else. Of course, I would want to get a good supply of ammo just so that I don't have to worry about the Fluctuations of what is available. So I've gone from them early 20s wanting to have a lot of different things now I really only having maybe four or five different kinds of firearms and then having to put kids as a backup in case something breaks and I no longer need to worry about being without.

Only one? It would be my EDC: a CZ-75 PCR

It's a great all around gun. Good capacity. Good sights. Easy to shoot and large enough for a fun range gun. Small and light enough for a good CCW. With a Kadet slide can even shoot 22LR.

I would rather have a sidearm that I can keep on me at all times than a long gun.

My my my. Glad to see I'm not the only one to start such threads.

My choice: Marlin 336 in .30-30 with a 16 - 17" barrel w/ a "JM" stamp.

I've always had a hankerin for a Sharps rifle.
I just can't make up my mind on caliber.
A 45-70 or a 50-140?
