Seriously,
The biggest concern I have is weather related. Tornados or blizzards.
There's not much you can do about tornados, but blizzards are different.
I have a backup of heat, wood stove. I also drive a 4x4 so I should be able to get around.
Since it will be cold, most of the BGs will be staying where it's warm.

If the economy really took a dump I guess we could have riots here in ATL. I'm a bit outside the city though.

AR-15 and a few hundred rounds
1911
water, canned goods and camping gear

Not really worried though...

I'm in the "natural disaster" group. Jesus is coming but thats a different prep. This week local news did a bit on earthquake and it fell right in line with my concerns. If it were to be a LARGE event things would get ugly...fast. Hard to figure where to store supplies for that kind if scenario. If everything is demolished...where do you put it and how do you get to it when its needed?(and keep it intact and un stolen) Maybe thats part of the game.
Mark.

What really worries me...

Is when a man shows up here and says "I'm from the gummint and I'm here to help" :what:

We don't have to worry about TEOTWAWKI, because Isaac Newton predicted that won't happen until 2060. :D

1) Natural Disaster (Most likely in my area but easy to prepare for).

2) Peak Oil/Economic Collapse (Longer term concern).

3) EMP/Nuclear (Unlikely, but you never know).

I selected "Other" only because there isn't an "Any". Almost anything that is likely to happen in this area (just outside of DC) can be dealt with in the short term simply by getting home and digging in. After a month, I'd have to reconsider.

i am wondering about the gallon of mayo as well.

here in california earthquakes are the biggest threat. i live about 60 miles from diablo canyon(nuclear power plant) so i worry about the people who retreat to my neck of the woods if there ever was a accident.

I store my hurricane supplies near the exterior corner of the house. I figure thats where i would have to do the least amount of digging, if the roof came down or the house collapse because of a hurricane. I think that is a strong point
and may stay up if hurricane were to pound the house. But I'm no carpenter or engineer. The house is a cement block house, this is FL.

sorry... this scenario is too far fetched to even think about for me...
best of luck to you poor souls that do that stuff, though. i'll be deer hunting that day.

DAKOTASIN,

You are my HERO..........Maybe next year my wife will let me take them out of her purse. And when she does, I'll let 'em hang!

Race riots: be it black on white or Aztlan or everyone ganging up on the muslims or everyone ganging up on whitey. It's gonna happen!, eventually, multi-culturalism doesn't work, the pots getting hotter and hotter and eventually the water's gonna boil over.

Either that or the yellowstone super volcano is gonna blow in which case it probably won't matter to an Okie anyway... ;)

I voted "other". For those of you who voted "other" how do you define it?

I'll go first. I defined it as the government stirring the pot with bogus terrorist attacks, social unrest etc. Why do I say that? I always look at who has most to gain by such actions.

Total control of the country would result and , to me, is the ultimate goal. The Constitution is out the window and the Legislative Branch is out the window, which has been out the window for some years.

Could the Patriot Act been enacted without 9/11?, would the 1968 gun laws been passed without the Robert Kennedy assination?

I'll try the sampler, please.

Massive earthquake (...is everybody ok?) which then generates a tsunami (oh, no...look!) which in turn takes out the coastal nuclear power plant (OH-SH...)

It's all fun and games until somebody loses an eye to the disaster trifecta.

:uhoh:

Hi All-

My current SHTF/TEOTW scenario is if I'm out mountainbiking in the boondocks and my wheels get knocked completely out-of-true or I otherwise have a huge mechanical breakdown.

~ Blue Jays ~

p.s. I think folks have righteously grown weary of SHTF/TEOTW threads...

I'm on the lookout for anything that causes the sheeple to miss more than 2 meals with no 911 or walmart. Around here, that is usually hurricanes, but a major terror attack, an epidemic or something else could conceivably have the same effect. Such a scenario would involve guarding my property with its stores of food and water until things get back on track.

Is the worst case scenario worth preparing for? Should I bother being ready for when people start killing, raping and pillaging?

I will use a survivalist themed version of the Hand Test for torts, essentially seeking to determine if I will be "negligent" in failing to prepare for such a scenario:
-Very slim probability of the harmful situation occurring but
-The results of not preparing would be potentially severe
-Preparing is something that takes place as an effortless byproduct of my shooting hobby and general hurricane preparedness

(low probability x great harm) - near zero cost to prevent = preparation is wise unless it involves unusual expenditures

The Calculus of negligence is a good starting point for many decision making processes, I like it. Like you, the my preps are a byproduct of my shooting and camping hobbies and general earthquake preparedness. It's more or less habitual at this point.

DPD06, You forgot a flask of Drambue and a thermos of coffee. I would carry a Grissly size container of 10% pepper spray and a Taser with extra batteries. After all there are children there you know.
