I'm planning on getting a CCW permit soon, but don't plan on carrying that much, so I don't really want to buy a new gun just for the rare times I actually carry. Right now I have a CZ75B and a 5" 1911 with Bomar sights. The CZ is 9mm, but can carry 16 rounds. The 1911 has 8 rounds of .45, which I prefer over 16 of 9mm, plus the 1911 is thinner. I'm leaning towards the 1911 (Dan Wesson Patriot), but was wondering if any of you guys have had any experience with both and what your thoughts are on the two. Thanks.

I too carry a p01 but the more I shoot my springfield loaded, the more I fall in love with it...

The CZ is a great gun with perfect ergonomics though...

I'll just say that I've think you've narrowed it down to the 'correct' two. Sounds like for you, the 1911 is the way to go. Just depends on SAO/C&L vs. DA/SA, and .45 vs. 9mm. Me, right now it's a 75 compact PCR.

Well, I have a Dan Wesson Patriot and have nothing but good things to say about it. I don't have, but recently shot for the first time, a CZ75B and was quite impressed.

Deciding on the 9mm versus .45 cal is a very personal matter. The caliber wars here and on other firearm Web sites will yield no clear cut answer for you. So, this decision of yours might just be the deciding factor.

Both are excellent choices. No doubt. The slimmer Patriot might conceal better but its weight and that darn Bomar sight just might get in the way while concealed. I recently bought a 1911 with Novak sights partly for that reason.

So, which do you shoot with better? Which can you "double tap" (two rapid shots to the body mass/target) more accurately? Is one more reliable than the other? Which manual of arms do you prefer, SA/DA or SA?

Have you been to the range with both to feel really comfortable with them? Does one feel more secure in the hand after shooting a few rounds? Which can you reload and chamber faster?

Hey, you didn't ask for any of this...just opinions of the pistols. Sorry... ;)

Thanks for the help, guys. I like my CZ75, but I love my Patriot. I shoot much better with it than with any other gun I have ever shot, plus I can get double taps right on target. I know, I know. it sounds like I've made up my mind. The only thing that's really making me hesitate is the Bomar sights on the Patriot. I love the sights, but was wondering if they would be uncomfortable when worn IWB. I've filed the edges down so that they're not sharp, but have not tried carrying it. I don't want to waste $100 on a holster for a gun that is not going to carry well. If that's the case I could carry the CZ75 with no worries, but other than that the 1911 is my first choice.

I guess I should have asked in my initial post if anybody has experience carrying a gun with Bomar sights.

Get a custom rig, (like from HBE Leather). with a high back to keep the rear sight off the skin. All good!
I love my CZ, and wouldn't trade it for just about anything....unless it was a brand new, totally legal CZ75 FA.....

For me I would go with a 1911, But it would all depend on model and weight. I carry a Colt officers acp and I own several defenders. Cz's are mighty fine guns also....my only problem with them is there not colts... :neener:

I say neither. Why get a CCW then only carry rarely. I only use my seat belt when I see I am going to crash. You need pepper spray for that rare time you carry.

I don't feel like I need to be armed seven days a week. If you feel that way then more power to you. I'd like to have the option of carrying when I feel so inclined.

Any time any place you could find your self in a S load of trouble My sister was left for dead in a office at lunch time on a busy downtown street. She got away from him once and got out to sidewalk were he caught her a drug her back in side to finish the job. Police found 80 people that saw her on side walk fighting and no one called police.

Why get a CCW then only carry rarely.
It's his butt and he's made his decision not to carry all the time. That is his right even if some don't approve of it. Everyone with a CCW don't carry all the time. Some probably have one and don't carry at all.

Compromise...

Either get a CZ97B or go with a large frame EAA witness. I have both a 10mm full size and compact in wonder finish. These pistol might need a bit of work and some spring replacements to be reliable.
