What to do with Military stuff

I have been out of the U.S. Army for close to 2 years now, and I still have old uniforms and other military clothing items taking up space.
I figured I would post here, posing a question to the THR community since there are a fair amount of Veterans here I believe, as to what have folks done in times past with their "souvenirs" of their military service?
Did you dump the whole lot in the trash bin? Did you find some respectable way to dispose of things? Hold on to it? I am curious what people have done, maybe there are some creative things i haven't thought of.
(I know this is not really firearms related, so mods please let me know if I shouldn't post this sort of thing)

Sorry, it really isn't.

I'm sure you'd hear everything from stored forever in footlocker to shadow box of a couple of particular items commemorating the service to everything given to friends/family to donated to museum to tossed in the trash.
