What was the first revolver you ever shot, and what was the first one you purchased?

My father took me to shoot my first handgun. It was a Smith & Wesson 686-6 4" that was loaded with .38s. That was the first one that I bought, too.

First I ever shot was the first I ever bought - an Italian 1851 Navy copy back in 1973 when I was 16. First "real" one was the second one I ever purchased - a Ruger Single-Six in 1976. I still have them both.

Ruger Single-Six squirrel hunting with my then BIL over 40 years ago!
First purchased was a S&W 625JM. Recently picked up a Ruger Super Blackhawk
.44magnum.

First revolver

My first handgun ever was an original 1849 pocket Colt .31 C&B with a 5 1/2" barrel that I bought from Hi-Hunter's Great Western Arms shop in Burbank, CA in 1955. I was 15 years old and you have to sell a lot of newspapers to come up with $47.00. It was in ragged shape and it took the rest of the year to come up with gunsmith fees but I finally got it to old Fred Croll, The Burbank Gunsmith for another month or two of paper route money. About thirty dollars later I had a genuine, serviceable Colt cap and ball revolver. A machinist buddy of mine donated a single-cavity mold and my dad came up with a can of caps and my first pound of fff. The joy of the first five rounds out of that little gun can be found on the pages of the first Playboy. In the eleventh grade, I got my hands on a Ruger Single-Six and the little Colt and all it's idiosyncracies fell away. Over the years, I would run into it in my stuff and just have to take it out and shoot-up whatever stuff I had for it. In those little "by the way" episodes, I would always get a feeling that I was missing something, but I could never put my finger on it.

I think my first was a S&W 686. The first I bought was a Ruger GP100. The second one I bought was a Ruger Bisley in .45 Colt. That is where the magic really happened.

Sent the year before with a Hi-Standard Dura Matic .22 Semi auto.
I tried some buddies revovers, mostly knockoff SA .22s with fixed
sights.

I was 13 in 1964, my Dad matched my savings from lawn mowing,
& $ 70 for a NIB /in the blue cardboard mox a S&W K-22 Combat
Masterpiece, store owner oft he pawnshop threw in a holster.

First centerfire revolver - Mid 70s S&W Model 29 6 1/2" bbl.

CUrrently have a S&W 625 .45 ACP & a S&W Model 60 3" bbl. .357 Mag.

First one I fired was probably a Ruger service six in .357 with 38's in it. I was a wee lad and I recall being taken to the silhouette range and shooting at pigs or chickens or something. My 'instructor' was a a co-worker of my mom's that had worked for the FBI. (I don't know if she was an agent or a clerk or what, just that she worked for them.)

I don't think I hit anything.

My first revolver purchase was a Colt New Service 1917 Army Model I bought used in my early 20's. Still have it.

My first time shooting one was a 629. My first purchase was a GP100 and my bank account has been going down ever since.

Shot: Ruger SP101 2.25 inch barrel, .357 Mag. At least that's the first one I remember shooting.

Bought: 1974 Pietta brass frame '1851' .44 with 12 inch barrel.

First fired: My dad's original 1851 Colt Navy revolver, it was in very nice condition and fit me like a glove. He let go to a collector some years ago and still regrets it.

First owned: Colt SAA in .357, a hand-me-down from a great uncle. Still own it.

First purchased: Colt King Cobra stainless 4". The first revolver I actually paid for, the SAA has a worn finish from my uncle storing it in a leather holster and I figured the stainless would hold up better in snow country. Also still own it, it's my favorite handgun.

First to shoot...a mid 30's S&W K-frame (?) .22 that was my Dads ( now my son's gun)

First to buy...Colt diamondback .38 spec. Early 70's gun. Still shoot this one.

Those "first guns" are good memories!

My first revolver I ever shot and owned is Harrison & Richardson model 922 nine shot Octagon barrel convertible. Used to go bird hunting in Arizona. I had some good times shooting with this revolver.

I don't remember shooting any revolver before I bought an Iver Johnson Trailsman 66 .22 in 1958. It was a total POS that went back to the factory twice and still wouldn't index correctly. My dad, who insisted on the IJ because he had one when he was a kid, finally let me trade it for a Ruger Single Six which is what I wanted in the first place.

First and only I've ever shot is my cap and ball .44 cal. I really need to get a modern revolver. No collection is complete without a revolver...

Sounds like an excellent excuse to buy another gun. :D

S&W Model 15 Combat Masterpiece. Learned how to shoot with that. Then I learned how to shoot double action on a Colt Python.

I was in a local Explorer (part of the Boy Scouts) post that was associated with a local police department for about a year. We learned about law enforcement as a possible career. I was 14 or 15 years old. They took us out to a vacant lot on the edge of town that the department used for pistol practice and taught us basic revolver shooting and safety. We were using department issued S&W model 10's. I did well enough to make the bull's-eye team for the state Explorer match that year. I don't remember how I did in the match. I purchased a used LEO model 10-6 about 15 years later on a lark for $125. Still have it and love it.

Can't really remember, but probably my father's GP100. My first, and only revolver so far is a 1955 Smith & Wesson M&P with the wider target trigger.

The first handgun I fired was my father's H&R 999 Sportsman. My first handgun purchase was a Ruger Security Six stainless four inch that I bought in 1977...I still have both revolvers and shoot them regularly.
