I don't care if it was new or used.

Do you still have it? How old were you when you got it?

My first handgun was my beloved S&W 586 6" (.357) back in the mid-80s. I was 16 yrs old. I still have it and I still love to shoot it. It's an excellent piece and I wouldn't ever think of getting rid of it.

Young and stupid. I had two. A S&W M29 just like Dirty Harry had and a Colt Python 357 Magnum. I sold both of them to get money for something I thought I HAD to have. Young and stupid.

My first was a Walther P99. I bought it for myself for my 30th birthday, in 2001. I wish I had bought one much earlier, maybe nine years.:banghead:

S&W Mod. 36. Beat up and abused little thing. I take good care of it now. It is also my favorite to wear when I run out to the stop and rob late at night!

Ruger P-90 dad bought it for me when i was 18 and i transfered it when i turned 21 still have it and shoot it often

J.C. Higgens 88 (aka High Standard Sentinel. Bought for $35 in 1973 used in Stephenvile, Tx . Had to sell to buy Groceries in College, Tarleton State Unversity. Wish I still had it.

Greeting's All-

I had such a poorly made POS that I don't even want
to talk about it! :( Actually, it was a .22 caliber LR in
an eight shot revolver called the "Burgo model"; as I
discovered later, made by the same folks that make
Rohm revolvers. Bought it from our then new fan---
dangled K-Mart store for $42.50! :uhoh: And I very
quickly sold it too my father-in-law for a total amount
of $25.00. Cool deal, as I was happy to get shed of it.

Best Wishes,

Came home from Hospital from being 'birthed...I had a High Standard Sentenial, 9 shot revolver...I would still have except I loaned to my dad and half brother sold for dope. :(

I carried it and, 1911 styles and K frames "on loan" from my uncle for years. HS graduation in '73 technically bought my "first" gun , a Combat Commander...

S&W 422 .22lr. Mostly a Revolver guy now but this pistol is still fun to use esp since I had it tapped for a scope mount. I have a red dot scope on it now and the targets don't have a chance.

FN built Hi-power, I sold it so I could buy a Springfield 1911A1 which I love, but I've always regretted selling the HP.

Convertible 3-screw Single Six, 5.5 inch barrel, belongs to my dad.

BTW, I think a 3-screw single six is the best possible first hand gun, the "first handgun of champions" if you will. I'm only 23 but I bet there's some old-timers that would agree :)

The first handgun I purchased myself was a KGP161. I sold that, which I briefly regretted, not so much because of what it was, but because it was first. I've replaced it with a 5.5 inch redhawk. I don't feel so bad anymore, in fact I feel much better. :D

Ruger P90 bought in '97 and yes, I still have it. I shot a few thousand rounds through it before buying others. It now resides on my shelf as I'll never get rid of it. Being the first, it's EARNED a spot in there.

A sure sign of being young and dumb:

My first handgun was a Hi-Point .380. No, I don't have anymore. I sold it for $50 to a friend who wanted something for his wife to keep in the bedside table when he got stationed in Germany and she stayed stateside. I'm not going to embarass myself and retell the story of how badly I got taken when I got it.

CZ-75. I bought it for about $200 at the Grossauheim Rod and Gun club while stationed in W. Germany in the late 80s. I entrusted it to another officer 'friend' of mine who was supposed to ship it and my CZ-50 to me when I arrived stateside. I never heard from him again. Smacktard!!! :cuss: :fire:

I was 22, back in '93 and bought a ruger blackhawk in .41 magnum as my first gun.
4 5/8" barrel, came with a pro-point red dot, scope mounts, uncle mike's grips, hard case, and the stock sights in a bag, well used.
$300 out the door.
A $300 gun, and I was so dirt poor, I had it on layaway for almost 3 months.
Ah, memories.
I believe my take-home pay at the time was about 190 bucks a week, and my bills and payments were about 140 a week.
Needless to say, that with the cost of ammo, the gun didn't get shot that much until I took up reloading, which is another story in itself.

*EDIT* Still have it and wouldn't part with it for all the ducats in the free world.
Thinking of sending it off to gary reeder to have it customized, and immortalized in the form of an ultimate .41
Note that there wasn't a period in the end of the last sentence, because it's not finished yet.

A used Rossi .38 spl. with a 3 inch barrel. I don't remember the model and it has been long since traded.

I received a Single Six Convertible for my 12th birthday. My first centerfire was a Sig 228 that I got when I was 15. I paid for that one and my dad did the paperwork and kept it in his safe.

Bought an old model Ruger Bearcat in Great shape from my dad in 92 for $50 I was 18 and wanted a handgun. On the day I turned 21 I picked up the Springfield 1911A1 that I had had on Lay a Way for 2 months. Still have the Ruger, have a different Springfield.

Mine was a 200th year Ruger Single Six convertible, 5 1/2 inch, purchased new in 1977. I shot it a lot, but just had to have something else and traded it off.
