Wonder why people are voting that never want to work with firearms????? As a matter of fact, I wonder why they are here at this forum???

Well somebody has to do it........I want the job of the lucky guy Cabela's sends around the world to hunt trophy specimens for their stores. If it was required, I suppose I could force myself to test new products for the company.

Am I allowed to answer for my wife?

Right now she is working as an automotive quality/reliability engineering manager. She would like to do the same sort of work with firearms.

Gunrag bull****er. :)

I suspect that if I were to ever go to work in the field, it would end up being, well, "work". Something I'd take vacations to get away from.

Even though I'm a freelance writer, I still think that writing is a cool job. I'd love to work for a gun 'zine.

Barring that, I'd want to work in the industry setting up Public Relations events, hunts, shoots, and handing out scholarship checks to young shooters.

Cory Ford who used to write "The Lower Forty" column for Field and Stream told of a guy at a cocktail party who asked him what he did.

"I write a column for Field and Stream."

"Wow! That must be an easy job!"

"Yeah. I just roll a blank sheet of paper into the typewriter -- and stare at it until blood runs out both ears."
This is ABSOLUTELY the truth.

Well, I've known a number of people who ended up turning "pro" and ended up not enjoying their hobby any longer. Besides, there are lots of interesting and fulfilling things to do professionally - someone can enjoy enjoy shooting immensely, but it may not automatically put a job in the firearms industry at the top of their list. Doesn't mean they don't enjoy shooting any less.

I wouldn't be able to afford guns if I worked in the gun industry.

I also enjoy food, wine, cigars, knives, etc. but that doesn't mean I'd want to work in a restaurant, winery, plantation, foundry...

My friend and I have an agreement. Should one of us hit the lottery he will employ the other as a full time outfitter. The outfitter would be responsible for arranging year round hunting/fishing expeditions all across the world for the both of us as well as family and/or friends who would like to participate!

Dream job? Now that's an oxymoron if I've ever heard one.

Who works in their dreams?

I already have my dream job - it's called RETIREMENT. Business card reads, "VP Operations and Maintenance, Sitmore, Dolittle and Livewell." (Wife is CEO.)

Thank you MrBorland. I was thinking about how to respond to that, but you took care of it pretty well. Apparently he didn't follow my reasoning. Perhaps I posted in Chinese or Swahili without realizing it.

I have several relatives in the firearms industry. One is a gunsmith and one is the service manager for a company that makes VERY high end shotguns. I'm sure I make more than either of them, I enjoy my job and I have enough time and money to enjoy my brass and lead addiction. Like I said, if I did it every day for a living, then it would be work.

But hey, since I don't want to work in the gun industry, I must say goodbye and not post here anymore. Its been fun, but since I'm not the caliber ;) of gunny that BersamanII thinks I should be, I guess I don't belong here. :(

Vern Humphrey

:D
Some of you folks should pay attention to Mr. Humphrey.
He has been around longer than many, and one is wise to pay attention to elders.
:D

Me?
Hey, give me a private spot and let me assist those in the manner I have.
I always learn more from the ladies, kids, elderly and physically limited that I share with them.

Set me up giving free guns, ammunition, eyes and ears, and whatever else I need, including corn dogs, hot dogs, hamburgers and other "food" and would be happy as could be with kids on a "rimfire" set up like I have done and would like to again.

Range Bum, gotta be a need to just hang out, drink coffee, sodas, and smoke while shooting the bull with folks.
Actually shoot?
Why?
Something important might come up off the firing line, like someone showing off a new bird dawg and I'd sure hate to miss out because I was actually shooting.

I guess some of this from being older and having shot a lot already in life.

I want to be a quality control guy for one of the ammo makers. Getting paid to shoot all day every day. then you get to go on great hunts paid for by the company. SWEET. I think I would still have a range in the back yard for shooting on the weekend. If i could I would shoot 18 hours a day 7 days a week. with some time off for reloading and family time (Around the reloading bench).
