All the different shooters out there if you could chose one 1911 what would it be. Within reason

Truth be told, I really don't know. I very much like 1911s however, many of the ones I've seen at training classes is that they seem to be unreliable. The more they cost, it seems the more likely they are to have problems. I think part of this is due to the many aftermarket parts negatively interacting with each other or jsut the tollerances being too tight. If I had to pick one, I'd likely go with a used USGI 1911 that Colt manufactured for the army in one of their later runs. It likely wouldn't be fancy but it would likely always go bang.

Les Baer Monolith Heavyweight (Custom With NO Slide logos)

Customized with:
-VZ fullsize Tactical Diamond Grips
-Ed Brown big paddle thumb safety, trailing edge of paddle shaped to my thumb exactly
-sensitize the grip safety
- Dawson .090 front FO sight
-Hienie Slant or 10-8 plain black .156" race cut notch rear sight.
-10-8 extended mag release
-Tripp mags
-Dehorn/Carry melt
-Severns Custom Hardhat refinish. Everything black. Everything.

Or any STI 2011 that isn't ugly. I'll probally find one in a Unicorn cave.

Dan Wesson CBOB (in CA), VBOB (rest of the nation)...my choice as the best value in a mid-priced 1911, that with a little clean up would give a Brown Kobra Carry a run for the money:

1. clean up action
2. checkered backstrap

Personal druthers:
1. Bruce Gray Hardtail grip safety modification
2. Solid trigger
3. 10-8 rear sight
4. Gold bead front blade

I'll take a real man's 1911, so give me an original Colt used in a war, no fancy pants parts on it

Having owned a lot of high end 1911's, I have to agree the Dan Wesson is perhaps the highest quality 1911 in its price range.

I'm with Strahley.
I would either take it apart and fuss with it until it worked like new, or put it up with my other war souvenirs. Or both.

My money = Smith & Wesson SW1911 product code #108282, a stainless 5"
.45 ACP priced < $900~! ;)

Your money = Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special 1911, a 5" blued .45 ACP
with factory night sights MSRP of $1990~! :uhoh:

Both firearms are marvelous in fit, finish, and workmanship. I own both, and
can honestly say that the Smith runs dang near as good as the Baer~! :D

I have a series one Custom Classic from Kimber and an older SS Loaded from SA. Both are dynamite. Wouldn't mind getting a SA professional though.
