I could survive with:
XD40
S&W M&P 9MM
S&W M&P 40
S&W 642
S&W LCR
Ruger LCP
NAA380
Remington 700
Mosin Nagant 91/30
Mossberg 500 12 ga
Fox SXS 12 ga

The rest of my collection is nice to have but has no need or sentimental value.

KT P11: fine CC pistol
Mosin-Nagant: if selected properly, accurate enough to get the job done.
Saiga 12: Sometimes you just need a good shotgun.
NAA Pug: For those times when even a P11 is too big.
Model 17 s&w 6": small game hunting

My needs are pretty simple. I'll probably have this list complete by this time next year.

1. Winchester pre '64 .30-06 Model 70 with 2.5 Weaver scope
2. Marlin 336 .30-30 with iron sights
3. Remington pump .22 with 2.5 Weaver scope
4. Colt AR 15
5. Remingon 870 12 gauge
6. Stoeger 12 gauge Coach Gun
7. Colt 1st Model Woodsman
8. Springfield Armory 1911 in .45 acp
9. Ruger Speed Six 2 3/4 in barrel in .357
10. Kahr p.380

1. .22lr bolt
2..22mag bolt
3. 20 gauge slug gun
4. 12 gauge bird gun
5. 7mm rem mag
6. 9mm pistol
7. .357 revolver
8.223 bolt or semi auto
9.45-70 lever
10. .22lr pistol

I can do it in 5. (Here is my minimum)

1. .22 rifle
2. 9mm or .45 pistol
3. 12 ga shotgun
4. AK or AR
5. .308 or 30-06 Bolt w/scope

1911 in .45
870 in 12g
AR-15
.308 Bolt Action
.22 Pistol of some kind or another
.22 Rifle of some kind or another

My collection at the moment

9mm CZ P01 - ccw
9mm CZ SP01 - hd for wife + range gun
CZ Kadet Kit - 22 LR conversion for either gun
10/22 - all targetted out
M4 type AR - shtf/hd/range
870 wingmaser + a few barrels

I'm pretty happy with the 4 I have now:

GP-100
12 Ga Remington 1100 (28" Mod and 21" Slug Barrels)
M1 Garand
20 Ga Remington 870 Youth Model

The last is actually my wife's. The only other gun I plan to acquire is a Rem 700 or the like for deer hunting.

Ruger 20g SxS Red Label
Ruger 77/22 Mk II in .22lr
Ruger MkII
Glock 19 - 9mm
Colt .45
Garand
Rem 870 or Moss 500- 12g
Some 5.56 variant like Bushmaster or Colt
Ak-47
Always room for one more

This is what I'm doing. I'm a geographic bachelor, so most all my stuff is in VA, and I'm in WA. I had to decide what to bring. It wasn't easy, but here goes: 1911 in .45 ACP. Carry piece (was 65LS and now is 6906). Levergun in 30-30, with 2X scope for deer/elk. Remington 870 Express Magnum in 12g, rifle sights, eight shot.
That's it. That's my entire arms collection within 3000 miles of where I'm at.
Works for everything. The only thing I need, really, is a .22LR pistol.

Rem 870 Police
SKS
Marlin 918T w/ 4X scope
Highway Patrolman 4"-6"
Glock 30
*If I lived in North West I would add a Marlin 45-70
* If i expected possible large group of zombies Saiga 12 converted or M1-A

Okay here it goes...

1. Remington Speedmaster .22lr- everyone needs a good .22 rifle
2. Ruger Mark III 22/45 .22lr- plinking fun
3. Glock 17- solid 9mm (range and HD)
4. Glock 19- extra solid 9mm and CCW
5. Ruger GP-100 .357 mag- 6 inch (HD and more accurate than the 3 inch)
6. Ruger GP- 100 .357 mag- 3 inch (CCW)
7. Sig P220- .45acp (it's a .45)
8. Sig P220 compact- .45acp
9. Armalite AR-15- .223 Remington -solid rifle for HD or hunting
10. Armalite AR-15- .223 Remington

I have OCD, so that's why I have multiples of calibers and guns. Also my pacemaker prohibits me from the recoil of a shotgun, or more powerful rifle.

Browning HP - SD/HD
Mossberg 500 - hunting/ HD
savage 10 FP in .308 - longer distance hunting

don't get much simpler or inexpensive than that.

1) Ruger MK. II
2) Colt Government M1911 .45+.22 Conversion Kit
3) Colt Commander .38 Super/9mm.
4) Browning Hi-Power
5) S&W Model 686
6) Mossberg Model 930
7) Mossberg Model 500
8) Ruger 10/22
9) Colt AR-15
10) AK-47

Today my ideal bare bones collection would include the following:

1-S&W, M-60 *
2-S&W, M-66, 4”*
3-S&W, M -66, 2 ½”*
4-S&W, M-27-2, 6”*
5-Taurus, M-617, 2”*
6-S&W, M-27, 3 ½”
7-S&W M-27, 5”
8-S&W M-520 NYSP
9-A Quality manufactured 12 gauge “coach gun”
10-Holland and Holland double:eek:, a guy got to dream.
• * denotes weapons I already have.

Rifles:

22 LR bolt - CZ 452
223 AR
30-06 bolt - they don't come much better than my old JC Higgins Model 50.
458 WM - If it's too big for a 30-06, I want a 458!

Pistols:

22
9mm - small for CCW
45 acp - CZ or Witness for HD
45 colt - S&W Mountain Gun for field

Shotguns:

12 pump - with barrels for HD, ducks, turkey, slugs, trap.
12 ga O/U - upland, skeet.

Should be able to cover anything except specialized competition with this collection.

1} Mossberg 500, 12 Ga. ~~ I sleep better at night knowing it is always close at hand, it can put game in the pot (and I also sleep better with a full belly), and it is a Spartan's favorite musical instrument, nothing better than war chants accompanied by the musical notes of a racking slide.

2&3} Colt 1911 Gold Cup, Colt Woodsman ~~ practice, practice, practice, and some fun, even a Spartan has to relax sometimes. (double duty for SD and hunting)

4&5&6} Colt Commander, S&W 442, S&W M.66 ~~ fighting sidearms, and the M 66 will also do fine for hunting.

7&8} S&W M&P15, H und K 93 ~~ hunting and fighting

9} Browning BAR .22 ~~ good for everything

10} BHP ~~ Spartans eat meat, so they need a good BBQ gun, the nice old High Power would be a perfect Spartan Bar-B-Q gun.

A 12Ga pump action shotgun, 30-06 bolt action rifle, 22 rimfire bolt action rifle, 9mm semi auto pistol, and a S&W N-frame revolver 44Mag/44Spl.

I think I have it.

Cheap 1911 that shoots well. $400

Ar15 with a 50 dollar glass ... shoots straight. $650 - the AR has a .22 conversion so rimfire is covered.

Mosin Nagant .............. $100

Ruger GP100 .................$500

Bersa .380 (most of the time gun) $300

870 pump ........................ $300

I got a lots of useful guns for 2k.

1. M1 Garand
2. M1A1
3. AR-15
4. Springfield 1903
5. Remington 870p
5. Remington 870 police folder
6. Marlin Model 60
7. .22 nine shot revolver
8. Ruger KGP141
9. S&W M&P .45
10. have to have my wife's Mini-14

I can only dream of owning 10 guns... what a luxury! Right now I own:

1. Stag model 2 ar15
2. Mossberg maverick 88
3. Glock 30
4. Smith and wesson 638

I'd like a bolt action rifle next, preferably in 30 06... or a marlin 336BL, but they'll have to wait.

Interesting topic since I am (again) selling off some guns and trying to really scale down. I'm in a small apartment for at least another year or two and have too much stuff in general (I'm also going to sell a guitar and I'm thinking about keeping my favorite CDs and a few that are collectible and putting the rest on my computer as Mp3s and getting rid of them). My salary has been frozen 2 years straight, and I suspect it may happen again next year. I have bought a motorcycle and it would be nice to sell some items I don't use and be able to pay it off (or at least make my payments for 2 years until my car is paid off). Meanwhile, I have a bunch of guns I haven't shot in years.

It isn't even that hard to come up with 4-8 categories that could reasonably cover everything I need out of my guns (it is easy to come up with them when keeping in mind that they can change in the future and I can buy more guns again in a couple years). However, when trying to come up with specifics, likes, emotions, sentimental value, etc. gets in the way and it is hard to come up with more than 1 or 2 guns I can "easily" sell.

I almost never get to the rifle range. I bought a .223 bolt rifle 2 years ago, I haven't shot it yet. I bought my AR about 6 years ago or so, I've shot it 3 or 4 times. I am not a hunter. So, I don't really need any rifles. That one is easy.

Shotguns, I don't like the one I have, and I'm trying to cut back (so I'm not going to buy another until my situation changes). A revolver caliber carbine makes a good substitute for home defense duties. So, for now, I don't need any in this category.
