I have a kel-tec but i am wanting something a little more comfortable to shoot.. i KNOW that this is a VERY broad question .. but I am wanting a semi-auto compact 9mm.. thinking maybe Glock .. I shot my buddies ruger p95 .. I liked it .. and i liked the price .. any suggestions?

Ditto on the Ruger P95, an inexpensive but highly reliable pistol that also is a soft shooter. Another to consider is the Smith and Wesson Military and Police.

What do you think about the S&W Sigma and the Ruger p95 .. whats the better of the two??

Bersa Thunder 9 Ultracompact. I was so impressed with the first one I bought I bought another compact and a fullsize. Nice price, I paid $350 OTD for each.
The trigger breaks in nicely and it is based on the Walther P88 which is a plus.

Hard to say what another man considers "fairly priced". I'm quite fond of my Taurus PT99 though. I bought it lightly used, so I cant say an exact round count. I've put about 2000 down it though without any hiccups. People will certainly argue this, but I think in some ways it's as good if not better than the beretta it copies. Also, I have quite large hands, and the big grip is nice for me. SO many new guns feel too small for me.

Checked out the Taurus 24/7? They seem to be geting good press. S&W Sigmas seem to be going for really reasonable prices. I own one of the newer Sigmas in 40 S&W and have had no problems.

While I am normally a huge S&W fan, in a choice between the Sigma and the Ruger P95, I have to vote for the Ruger P95. Some years ago I had a Sigma (in .40s&w). It went back to the factory multiple times because of multiple FTFs. They replaced it with another Sigma. Lo and behold, it had the same issues. After 2 trips back to the factory for the second one, they made it right by offering me whatever gun I wanted. S&W customer service is the best, but with a Sigma, you are too likely to need to experience that great service. If I were looking for a 9mm, I'd go with the S&W Military & Police. That one is a winner.

Stoeger Cougar can be had for $300-$350, depending on where ya shop.

Beretta 92's can be had for around $410-$425 if ya shop at gun shows or online (new price).

I REALLY like the new FNP-9/Browning Pro-9 - Costs around $425 if ya go to a gun show...

I had a sigma and it was a good gun...never had any failures/malfunctions of any kind...i hated the long trigger pull on it and thats why I voted p95.

Springfield and Glock are both excellent guns, but they are both quite a bit more expensive than a p95. What I might think is fairly priced (sigma and p95) some others might think of as cheap...:)

I would recommend going to a good range and renting whatever your thinking of buying. That will give you a good idea if you'll like it for the long haul or not.

Check out the FM Hi-Power Detective Model from CDNNInvestments.com. It's a reasonably priced, compact clone of the Browning Hi-Power, the original wunder9. You can also just get the full-size Hi-Power along with the Detective slide and end up with two guns for very little investment.

CZ-75 if you have larger hands. Go hold/shoot as many guns as you can, you'll find the one that's just right for you. Glocks are great guns, but also check out XD's.

The Ruger P95 has always felt like a brick in my hands, but they're SOLID guns. If you can handle the way they feel I see no reason not to go with one. I really wish I got along with them better.

Daewoo

Have a DH40 (.40 S&W, 10 rd) and DP51 (9mm, 13 rd). Aluminum frames, about the size of a Colt Commander.

Both with ambidextrous safeties, non luminous 3-dot sights. I actually like the "tri-fire" option (push the cocked hammer forward and you get a very light, pre-loaded trigger pull)

Thanks for all the input guys! I am leaning a little towards a p95 for the price and for the good things everyone has said about them. I was looking to keep it under $400. A glock would be nice, but I think I may wait on that one. I like the glock 19, but its a little pricey for what I am looking to spend. I'm going to look at the CZ 75. I own a CZ 40P and love the gun.

Define "fairly-priced."

Rugers are cheap, reliable and built like tanks, but are single-stack(?)

I'll put up another vote for the CZ 75B. They're all over the place for $300-350 new or like new, maybe less if you hunt around.

I'm very pleased with the S&W M&P 9mm compact. For a size comparison it is about 3/8 of an inch longer on each end than the Glock 26/27. If you shop around (or get a discount, as I did), you can get it for less than half a grand.

I was VERY close to buying a Taurus 24/7 Pro 9mm. They are only about $35 higher than a P95. I bought some Hogue grips for my P95 though, because I don't like the factory grip. The 24/7 Pro had that "Ribber" grip and it was ultra-comfortable. The ONLY reason I didn't buy it instead of the P95 is because the Taurus seemed to have magazine reliability issues.

I went and fondled a lot of Glocks (couldn't afford a new one anyway), but I could not find one with a grip I liked. One may exist, but I didn't experience one. The CZ I handled had a fat grip, a little too wide for my hand.

The gun that fit my hand perfectly was a Browning Buckmark URX 22. It had finger grooves in the grip and it was rubbery. It felt like it BELONGED in my hand. The $10 Hogue grip on the P95 (not mine) felt very good though. I'll be putting my grip on tonight after I clean my gun for the first time.

If I decide to buy another pistol (likely) I may buy one of those Buckmarks.

Edit: The 24/7 Pro's (regular 24/7's too I think) can be had in the "long slide" versions with 5" barrels. They are the same price as the 4" barrel versions.
