My wife said she was going to Bed, Bath and Beyond to buy something called "pillow shams", whatever those are.

She came home with a Ruger SP101 .357 Magnum, instead.

I didn't know BB&B even sold firearms.

A pillow sham protects the pillow. What your wife purchased protects the pillow, its user and the rest of the house as well. Send her out for a duvet next time and see what she totes home!

Sham is just a fancy name for a pillow cover.

She may have planned on purchasing the SP101 all along and was using "sham" as her excuse to get out of the house and also as a clever double entendre to describe said excuse. Double props to her if that was the case.

sham; /SHam/; noun

noun: sham; plural noun: shams

1. a thing that is not what it is purported to be.

So this firearm was clearly not a pillow. Therefore, it was a sham, a thing not what it was purported to be.

By this simple, clear logic, we conclude that a Ruger .357 magnum is indeed a pillow sham.

Did she use the 20% off coupon as well? ;)

Sounds like a sham scam sham to me. I should send my wife out shopping for pillow shams more often.

My wife has been to Bed Bath and Beyond LOTS of times and spent plenty of money there and I have yet to see a .357 out of it. If my wife shopped more like yours she might entice me to go along more often:) Congrats!

I thought it was a type of ruse involving upholstery

Yeah, that's where I'm going too. It's a seldom known - or successful - maneuver performed by the equally unknown sub-set of grifters in the interior decoration industry.

No matter... You've got a new 101 in the house!

Technically , a pillow sham is a decorative cover that opens from the center and is used over top of the pillow case. It is for making the bed with the pillows on top of the spread.

As for the SP 101....
now there's a good girl.

OK now, that's rich... A "technical" explanation as to what a "pillow sham" is - on a premier firearms forum known for its hard case moderators locking threads at the whiff of thread drift.

I'm not complaining or anything - just pretty damn funny.

Completely off topic, but you'd be surprised just what BB&B sells. About a decade or so ago I was working as a contractor on an air base in Qatar. I had a buddy who was a short wave radio nut. He wanted a specific radio that could pick up radio stations from Germany, his home. We scoured the Internet for almost a week looking for the specific make and model, had a European plug and would ship internationally to an APO address. Guess who had it. Bed Bath & Beyond.

So when you say your wife went pillow shopping at BB&B and came back with a Ruger, I find it completely plausible that she did exactly what she said she was going to do.

You now have the correct definition and pictures of the "Pillow Sham"; the definition of your wife is certainly "KEEPER'!
