What's the best 9mm or 40 cal carbine?

I own a couple of Kel-Tec's, 9 & 40. Love'em
I have looked at the Hi-Points and I would have bought them if they had higher cap mags available. (Folding stock would be nice too :what: )
Ruger used to make carbines in 9 & 40 but they stopped a long time ago.... The Marlins are nice if you find them.
So for price go Hi-Point. For gadgets go Kel-Tec.
My 2 cents.
Lateck,

Taurus makes or use to make one called the CT 9 G2 carbine. I allways thought the Police version looked pretty cool, but the civilian version with its thumb hole stock not so much. The big disappointment on it was/is the lack of full cap mags for it. Not much fun with a 10rnd low cap.

I looked for it on there sight but I don't see it any longer. So it may be gone. But I have seen them still in the stores (Academy).

This might be a bit obvious, but my personal favorite is a 9mm AR. In the US a 10" barrel and a suppressor require a bit more paperwork, but even a regular 16" carbine is a fantastic plinker. 32 and 25rd UZI mags are a dime a dozen, many of them are reasonably accurate out of the box and mine's been dead reliable. I also have a suppressed 10.5" .223 upper for it, but I can't even remember when was the last time I used it.

I've thought about getting a Marlin Camp Carbine or a Ruger PC9, but time and time again, after spending yet another afternoon shooting the AR, I haven't bothered.

Owned the Ruger PC9 bought new. Neat, handy little carbine. Fed 115 +P+ clocked ~1630fps out of that 16 inch barrel. Really blows up stuff at that velocity.

Good luck finding one.

The Marlins and Rugers are made of unobtainium, I have some KelTecs and they are cool and take all my Flock mags but they are supplemental to the Glocks rather than the other way around.
I'd love to find an AR that took the Glocks mags in 9 & 40.

I guess I just haven't paid attention, I've never heard of an AR 9mm!!! Have to look into that.

Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions: based on some of your comments this just seems like a great idea!!! IDK why I haven't thought of it before!

WHAT?! Really? They've been around as long as I can remember, at least early to mid 80's. Mine's a RRA upper on a 1988 A2 Colt lower but nowadays there are a number of manufacturers who offer dedicated 9mm AR:s. Stag Arms even has a 9mm lefty.

CX4 is nice. Got one for my wife and it has had no problems at all.
Also, you might check out a Thureon - they use pistol magazines from Glock, Sig, etc. Lots of fun with a simple red dot sight.

Harry, I love my 1894s. And I love my Mini 14. I was just thinking a semiauto carbine in one of these would combine the best of those two worlds.

I don't have any ARs, so I haven't really paid much attention: I'll have to ask some of my buds: but I don't know who has one. Cool idea though!

I really like my CMMG 9mm AR carbine. I've owned a few Ruger carbines in the past (9mm and .40), but I enjoy my 9mm AR a LOT more.

I just picked up a Sub2000 in 9mm. It's light, handles well and is fun to shoot. Don't care for the sights though.

I replaced the front sight on mine with one from Red Lion Precision, I did not care at all for the one it comes with. I don't mind the factory rear sight. You do have to really get down on the rifle to use the sights, it's my only real complaint about it.

That's exactly what I meant. I don't like having to smash my face against the stock to get a good sight picture. Another 1/4-1/2" of sight would have done a lot for it.

I have a CX4 in .40 and love it, with a red dot it is fast and accurate. I hated the factory irons on it but planned on an optic from the start. I also strongly considered the KelTec Sub2000 but have a PX4 pistol that shares magazines with carbine so it was a no brainer for me. The Hi Point is other option as well, they seem to run and run and are fairly accurate, I thought Pro Mags was making some higher capacity magazines for them now but could be wrong.

I acquired a new Ruger PC40 when they first came out. If your eyes allow you to use the iron sights it is a fine option and it is very sturdy. The barrel is chrome lined. The 9mm version gets very good ratings as well.

It is ideal for me as a home defense carbine since my already impaired hearing would be decimated with the blast of an indoor AR15 5.56/.223.

I have 10, 11 and 20 round mags for it.

My friend has a PC4 I might try to talk him out of...I like the ballistics.

Has anybody tried one of these Citadel carbines yet? As a Beretta 92 owner they are very tempting, if they're not junk:

Debonai, regards to the legacy m1 9mm...shot a box of AE 115gr fmj and about 50rounds fmj reloads with no problems....but started to check for accuracy and found my rear sight drifted to the right. Searched YouTube and a guy had the same problem, gonna see how I need to secure the rear sight. Other than that it's a nicely done traditional look but shoots the cheaper 9mm round. Price now may not be for some...I say wait it out till they drop
