What's the better big bore AR cartridge?

I have one. It is decent.

I had to disassemble it to open the gas port, as it wouldn't cycle. There was a small step in the port, easily drilled out.
Bushmaster brand magazines won't work with mine, ARStoner brand does.

The regular XTPs are amazingly explosive in the one in fourteen twist. XTP mags must be employed for hunting, I would think.

Overall, I am pleased as I called Opticsplanet and got an awesome deal. For the price, I can live with giving it a check over after purchase.

The handguard is slightly more rough than I would like but it definitely helps holding on to it. Everything was staked and assembled properly, beside the port issue. It works as advertised, that is, if it can be put down, a two hundred fourty grain hollowpoint will do it spectacularly.

de-burr feed lips and make sure the front corner of the feed lips is well rounded. I had a lot of trouble with my factory Bushmaster brand magazines and found that if I rounded the front corner of the feed lip and de-burred and gave the feed lip edges a quick polish they went from jam-O-matics to pretty reliable magazines. Due to the single stack feed if there is a sharp edge or burr on the bottom of the feed lip edge is really causes a lot force needed to strip the round as that sharp edge digs into the side of the round. That said my best running 450BM magazines are ones I made from straight body 20rd GI mag bodies with 458 SOCOM followers from CAlegalmags.com. Those have been 100% for me with any and all bullet styles.

The one review on their website mentioned opening the gas port. I can live with that. How does it shoot?

Unfortunately, I finished my Valkyrie before I developed an accurate round. I haven't missed a twenty ounce soda bottle yet!
However, the only paper I shot at one hundred was about eight inches. That done with a new upper and a red dot and my eyes.(The most limiting factor, I like scopes!) And aggravating magazines. In my experience, regular ones and Bushmaster ones don't work.

This weekend I have a new load to test. I hope to free up a scope and see:))) how it will really do. I'll post the target, good or bad.

In all honesty, I have this just to blow away bottles of water.

Well, the best laid plans of both mice and men, they oft go awry.
Sunday was perfect. Zero wind, no mirage, and myself stuck into the attic of the Millpond house.
Running wire is no where near as fun as running rifles. Attempt number two coming up this week end.

At least my daughters new room has electricity and lighting. Drywall and carpet in her room, then I can trim the whole house out. Water softener on order, too. I kept thinking that softener cash would make a great Vortex scope. Maybe next month...

Why must the world confound me so?! It seems I am still plagued with short cycling. I will have to investigate it further as I am reluctant to just add more powder.

Here is a target at fifty two yards.

And, after an adjustment to the right, one at one hundred. Almost got them all in there!

Evidently the phone/camera focus is very touchy and was measuring though those big gaping holes.:)

While I do like the upper, I am disappointed in the intermittent short stroking. I am sure it is compounded with my handloads. I have not bought any factory rounds to compare with.
I would recommend Radical with the caveat that they are the most inexpensive complete upper available, they may need a looking over. When I purchased mine, I literally could not order the parts cheaper and get better quality. I priced several different forearms and the Radical one is far away better.

...Radical with the caveat that they are the most inexpensive complete upper available,

Anyone try one of these $360 Bear Creek Uppers?

I stand corrected.:)

That is a price that makes my Scottish blood warm.
And my Irish head hot, that I didn't find them first.:fire:
I could have saved thirty nine dollars just by switching to Giec... er, Bear Creek.:D

Well that says it all in the 1st sentence “The .450 Bushmaster Is The One To Choose Over The The Big 3 Big Bore AR Calibers”.

Of course it also says it’s a “complete rifle kit” but you’ll need to buy more stuff to complete it.

That said it’s pretty cheap so with my quest to have one of everything, I’ll give a review when it gets here.

Doesn't look like it has a muzzle break either, i purchased one of their 20" 556 "complete" kits earlier, i was surprised at the quality, i polished the trigger with toothpaste and soaked the internals with motorkote

After further review of my notes, it looks as though my poor bullet selection ability to select the proper weight bullet is the culprit. The two fifty grain bullets I got on sale require quite a bit more powder than I put in them. The first loads were with three hundred grain bullets. Just when I get it running, I change something. Makes sense, right?

While accurate, I am no longer surprised a near starting load doesn't cycle an AR. In relation to another thinking of purchasing a Radical Firearm upper, my experience should be considered out of the norm (as it usually is...;)).

Delta Team Tactical just put this 450 Bushmaster kit on sale for $269. You just need a BCG, charging handle and lower to finish it off.

They will send you the stuff on the left side of the photo and you will need the stuff on the right, plus a way to aim.

In an ideal world but what is it they say about getting what you paid for?

So the takedown pins they supply are for an AR10 and the bolt catch pin isn’t your standard roll pin used on AR15’s, it’s a threaded pin.

That’s pretty minor to someone that has a stock of AR15 lower parts. The less than ideal part is that the upper hasn’t had the ejection port opened up and I don’t have a lot of confidence trying to push a .500” diameter OD case through a .500” wide slot is going to be very reliable.

I contacted them but after a week and a half dealing with them and fedex after them saying it was “dropped off at front door” and nothing happening even after I emailed them security footage of every fedex delivery over the past 3 months, Then an older fellow came by yesterday and said he looked up my address, to brig it by, after calling fedex a couple times last week and this week but they never came by to retrieve it.

It will be faster to mill it myself. My 458 socom is opened up to .610” but the case is also about .040” wider than the 450. For those that have a 450 how wide is the ejection port?

The Hornady 300 grain interlock is an an excellent bullet for short range big game. Low recoil, good terminal performance. It's near ideal for trapdoor .45-70 loads. For that reason, i think i would go with the .458. The lighter 300 grain will also give a flatter shooting load out to 100-125 yards, which IMHO, is absolute max hunting range for any of these three.

Of course if you're going to do a lot of plinking, the 450 would be far less expensive to load.

Sounds like Delta Team sent the replacement parts and the rest of your trouble has been with Fedex.

Right now I’m having trouble with the Post Office. There was a sticker on my front door Thursday when I got home from work. It said I had a package I had to sign for and no one was home. This was at 4:30 pm, my mail is delivered between 5 & 6 pm. But the sticker said they would attempt to deliver the next day, which was yesterday, but no one came buy with my package.
I know what’s in the package, a complete 300 Blackout upper from CBC Industries. Hopefully they will deliver it today.

To my way of thinking, "if you're gonna go big, do it right" - that means .50 Beowulf. Easier to reload - awesome short range thumper.

Just because Bill Alexander is a knucklehead =/= .50 Beo being bad design. The 6.5 grendel sucks too, huh?

No, the person who originally received the package came to my home, after fedex didn’t respond to his calls to them about delivering a package to the incorrect address (his vs mine).

DTT hasn’t yet responded to the problems with the “kit” but I don’t expect them to until the first of next week anyway. I’m hoping for the best...

Ask for Glen when you get a hold of them.

I had an issue with DTT sending me the wrong contour barrel once and they didn’t respond for awhile, so I would say give it a few days.

Well, got the upper back with the correct receiver and had it out at the farm this weekend. Threw on a 1-4 optic and gave it a rough one shot zero then a few of us ran some 3 shot groups at 100 yards. Best one is the ragged hole below the mag in the photo below. Not bad at all as cheap as it was. 14 rounds down the pipe so far I guess the next 6 will be at hogs this year.

Ran fine with factory 20 round Colt mag. I give it a two, out of two, thumbs up.

Good to you have it up and running.
Last weekend I was shooting some 405 gr hand loads in my 454 Socom. After a few rounds I noticed the rail had moved forward about a 1/4 inch.. It’s my fault I didn’t tighten it down good. But those 405’s do have a push.
