What's wrong with Glocks?

You also have to pull the trigger on the XD to fieldstrip it, just like the Glock. Nothing wrong with Glock's, I just don't care for them. No doubt they have earned their reputation as a bulletproof, rugged, reliable, service pistol.

Glocks don't so much have defects as they do undesirable features (depending on personal opinion, of course). A few examples include less-than-average chamber support in most of their models, non-compatability with bad reloads and lead rounds, disassembly procedure, grip angle (but this could be with ANY pistol, not just glock), grip finger grooves, enlarged hump in backstrap, etc.

In todays world there is a long list of excellent handguns but none of them is perfect. The Glock is on that list and if it fits your needs then good for you, if not....well its a pretty long list.

The problem is with people who think that the Glock is the end-all-be-all of handguns. The more ignorant ones can be annoying. I tell you, having some guy who has only ever shot his brothers Glock tell me how wonderful they are while bashing "crap guns like those CZs" is annoying as hell and similar situations happen all to frequently.

As much as I like Glocks, I prefer a pistol with a manual safety or at least a grip-safety.
I also don't care for the plastic sights.

I think there are a few schools that like to gang up on Glock, I'm one of them, but will admit that they do what they are made to do, they're just not for me.

The first is feel. Some love they way they feel some hate it, but there seems to be little in between.

The second is the legend of the Kaboom and the fact that Glocks have chambers that are not fully supported.

The third is a combo of plastic haters and people who drink the Kool-aid served by their own favorite manufacturer. I'm a Sig Kooaid drinker. ;)

I don't think there's anything wrong with Glocks, I do wonder sometimes however about some of the more vocal Glock owners....

My s-i-l's boss bought one ten years ago.I got my turn to shoot it and absolutely hated the way it felt in my hand, then I read about the FBI agent killing the innocent man in the next room at the Holiday Inn, while field stripping his.If the design is so perfect why do you have to pull the trigger to field strip it.Then I read about the numerous kabooms with the 40s&W model.Sorry no Glocks for me!

I've only seen TWO blow up personally during handgun matches . . . the only two pistols that's happened to in a competitive world ruled by the sturdy 1911!;)

Then again, most Glocks don't choke on ammo but a lot of the 1911 raceguns do when some backyard gunsmiths make 'em a little too tight and they are still not broken in enough yet!

They both are fine weapons, especially in the hands of their intended owner market.

I've only shot one glock, a g19. It felt fine in my hand, but the mags were a bitch to load and it hit a weird spot on my hand that made firing it uncomfortable. My XD-9 was far more comfortable and basically the same size, but a tad heavier. I think a lot of the disparaging comments are made because of the line of thinking that if you need or want a pistol the only answer is 'glock'.

I have to agree that it is lacking regarding the safety features. For that very reason I have mentioned many times it is not the right pistol for LEO.

In regards to flexing, by Peter M Eick. Could you explain that some more:uhoh:

I would like to know more about that problem if it is one, since I just purchased a 400 Corbon Barrel for the mdl 21. It does have comp cuts in the top of the barrel, I'll be using a 20 pound spring.:)

I also have a 10mm barrel for it but only a 4.5 " and not a 6" with comp cuts.

What's wrong with Glocks?

There is Nothing wrong with Glocks!

Gaston Glock markets an excellent product, but I Prefer HK's, Colts, and Ruger's. I would choose a Glock over a S&W Semi Auto pistol though.

My first semi-auto handgun was/is a Glock 19. I love it and it has been a great companion since 1994.

After teaching my wife to shoot with it (with the intention of going and buying her a handgun for SD), she decided that she wanted MY Glock.

Well, now I carry a RIA 1911A1 .45ACP Mil-Spec.

Two nights ago, I pulled out the Glock to check it and make sure it was clean, etc.

I could not get over how "Plastic" and odd it felt in my hand. The magazine release felt strange, the grip angle was odd, and the sights seem bulky (if that makes sense.)

I can understand now how people who have cut their teeth on other handguns such as 1911's would not endear themselves to Glocks. I can see how they would not feel comfortable with them.

Still, I'd stake my life on my (or my wife's) Glock-- and have done so in the past. I still like it, but now I do have a wider perspective and understanding of perceptions.
