There is no really reason why, but meanwhile i own two guns in most of the calibers because its more practical for storage when you own a few thousand per caliber.

I used to own quite a few but have started to sell some. Here's what I shoot and my opinions.

.223 - decent target shooter but limited in use for hunting.

.22-250 - great varmint cartridge

.25-06 - my favorite, a dual purpose cartridge good for varmint to medium game.

7mm Rem Mag - good but sold it as the .300 Mag just does things better.

.30-30 - bought a Win 94 when it was announced they were closing the factory. It has it's uses but I rarely shoot it.

.308 - great target round and good for hunting.

.300 H&H Mag - great big game round but I don't use it much.

9mm - have one but not a fan

.38 Spl - everyone should have one

.357 - have several and they do things well

.44 Spl - good cartridge but seriously underloaded.

.44 Mag - great all around pistol cartridge

.45 acp - very accurate and I use it for CCW

.45 Colt - didn't like it as the .44 Spl does anything it can do.

I own handguns in .22lr, 9mm and 38 Special. The 22 is a target gun, the 9mm my CCW, and the 38 is my wife's defense piece.

I own rifles in 22lr, 9mm, .223, .7.62x39, and .308. The 22 is for practice and plinking, the 9mm is a truck gun, the 7.62 and .223s give me weapons in those common calibers and one of the .223s is my wife's combat weapon, the .308 is my primary arm.

Wow. What an incredibly massive response to this post. I feel like the school yard kid who has a glove but no ball or bat, when I compare my meager list to the rest of yours.

Caliber Cartridge chambering
---------------------------------------------
.284 7mm Wby mag
.308 .30-06

.40 .40 S&W
.357 .38 Special

I have my Weatherby posted on THR's sales board, trying to sell it. I intend to go with only the .30-06 chambering in my rifles. But, I just cannot give up either of my pistols.
