What's your expectation when you buy a rifle with an accuracy guarantee?

If shooting on a regular basis and my rifle/ammo combination shoots close to one hole, I can usually maintain that level of accuracy.

If I take a break from shooting that rifle/ammo combination for a few weeks, those one hole groups become one inch groups.

Anyone can say they have a match grade rifle or match grade barrel, but it take a match grade shooter to get match grade results.

A lot of the rifles with an accuracy guarantee have test targets fired from a machine rest, which tests the rifle's accuracy, not the shooter's accuracy.

Taliv, on one hand I agree with you, but seriously, how many shooters do you think know the first thing about a solid shooting position, bone support, breath control, etc.? I see so many shooters that barely know what end of the scope to look through, and I don't care what rifle you hand them they cant shoot sub MOA and for that matter don't even know what MOA means.

like i said, every month i take new shooters to the range and they've never heard of any of that stuff. usually, i explain the reticle to them and how to hold off, show them how to use the rear bag. i give them a wind call, and i tell them to make sure they pull the trigger straight back. that's pretty much it.

Assuming that you worked up a load with decent bullets I don't see how you could argue that.
I don't work up a load for accuracy. I work up a load to target a particular velocity, usually because i'm getting too lazy to reprint my dope cards. :)
I am using decent bullets, but I don't chase lands. A couple months ago, i posted a ladder group i did just for grins (i'm still using my old load though). 10 rounds was still 1/2 MOA even though there was a different amount of powder in every case.

it's my contention that shooting is mostly mental. people who get preconceptions about how hard it is seem to psyche themselves out. pull a random girl off the street that doesn't care at all (no ego or stress involved) and has never fired a rifle before, and i'll bet you money she can shoot sub MOA 10 round group her first try

For the most part, I agree with Taliv. I was a certified instructor and have thought many people to shoot, many of them kids that have never shot anything. Ninety percent or better do very well. Like Taliv said the basics are fairly simple. The biggest problems are the older experienced shooters that ignore what you say or can't manage bad habits.
I go to a busy range and just wonder at how bad some people shoot though. They bang away with their braked semi-autos or thunder boomers seems like forever and shoot patterns rather than groups. But then some shooters are very good.

hope for the best, expect reality.

thats all you can do. no one can duplicate the machine rest the gun company used when they did that test target. i dont have 11,000 dollars to get that particular rest and attachments they use.

and ammunition, its easier to create a theoretical profile based upon bullet shape and dimensions and weight and velocity then it is to say "all loads in this rifle will shoot moa"

and the federal gold match ammo. never had a box to shoot. its hard enough to bring a man to purchase a box of fancy hunting ammo for 35 dollars then expect him to pay the same for fmj. no offense, its good, but not what i need.

and core lokt is good, my 'substandard"770 in .243 can do 1 inch groups at 100 yards.

Weatherby is one of the comps. offering sub Moa for a price of course...But personally I firmly believe that with modern technology and machining, 99% of most bolt guns will in fact shoot at least MOA.if not better..A lesson learned many years ago was the fact that it doesn't matter what seksi, sleek bullet YOU like, in order to get a rifle to perform, you need to give it what it wants..
An old smith once told me that a rifle is like a tuning fork, when you give it what it wants, it will sing you a song..

I think there is a lot of truth to that. IME heavy barrels shoot almost every load pretty well, while light profile barrels are much more picky.

I've had several. The only ones that delivered were TC Icon's. Remington 700 pos, psp or something like that would shoot under an inch only with bullets seated too long for the magazine. Very, very, very excessive free bore. POS!!!
I have 3 Icons, all deliver. One shot less than 1\2" at 200 yards while sighting in.

I have had "issues" with accuracy guaranties from a few companies.

BEFORE you purchase, inquire how the manufacturer tests the accuracy.

What ammo?
Indoor, outdoor?
In stock?
Out of stock and in a vise?

Forget loads and such. Off the shelf ammo, whatever grade it might be for comparable results.

THEN- after purchase, duplicate and match results.
