i just bought a springer champion operator, only put a 100 rounds through it, great gun so far! easy to keep shooting through the same hole, and no malfunctions (only fired fmj so far though)
My favorite to look at is the EB Special Forces Carry, but it costs a little more than I can justifiably spend on a pistol right now.
For the money, the DW CBOB is an incredible deal. Especially when they were less than $900 out the door. They are still quite a deal around $1000 to $1100 though.
The Massad Ayoob Limited Edition features the following:
4.25" Commander model slide, single stack commander BobtailTM frame. The John Browning traditional design innovatively modified for concealed carry, without significantly detracting from reliability or accuracy.

Exclusive 25 LPI checkering on forestrap and BobtailTM.
Matte finished slide for low glare, with traditional "square cut" serrations on rear of slide only.
Black G10 grips with checkering.
Massad Ayoob signature laser engraved on right hand side of slide, Massad Ayoob Signature Edition engraved on left hand side of slide.
Fixed dovetail 3-dot night sights with high visibility white outlines.
Retail price: $2,720.
WOW!! Those Ed Browns are something else. Just gorgeous.
The Springer is a nice pistol too, but not technically a "Commander" sized pistol. It only has a 4 inch barrel while the Commander has a 4 1/4 inch barrel.
Kimber Ultra Eclipse II-Custom Shop, technically an Officer Model frame is my favorite short 1911. Last Kimber post was hijacked so we'll try again and maybe this time be civil about our differences. Kimber makes a quality 1911 product.
My Kimber Ultra Eclipse II and my Pro Carry II are going strong after 8 years and quite a few rounds through them. Had a service issue recently with the Ultra Eclipse and called Kimber who told me to send it in. Kimber turned the pistol around in 4 business days, fixed the problem, replaced the Mepro-capsules for free, stoned a couple spots on the slide and test fired the pistol for me. Fixed professionally, well, fast and with a smile, terrific service!
I own (2) Kimbers which both have been reliable for 8 years now and both have been shot extensively with no cracked frames or part breakages. Break-in the Kimber as instructions state for break-in period, plus proper number of rounds, use quality ammunition, use quality magazines, run the pistol wet per Kimber's recommendation and you will have probably have no issues and a very accurate pistol.
Paid $2100 shipped on my Kobra Carry a few months ago.
Blue finish
Short solid trigger
Naked slide
If you want the best price on a Brown, Wilson, Baer or Nighthawk I would go with Gunslingers. George will order what ever you want with a very very small downpayment and give you a year to pay it off, layaway basically on a very nice 1911 made to your orders.
I couldn't afford a Kobra Karry or Executive Carry, so I built the closest I could get using Fusion frame and slide and Ed Brown barrel and other parts.
