Hi all, I'm new to reloading and I would just like to get some opinions on your "go to" load for target shooting. So far I have found that I like shooting 4.0 grains of Winchester WSF with a 147gn FMJ with a C.O.L of 1.169''. So what's your favorite? Sorry if this has been a thread before but I couldn't find anything.

Welcome to THR!

I don't really load much in the way of target loads for any cartridges, or firearms I load for, so don't know how much help I can be.

What I do load, is self defense loads, which I use for target and any other need that should arise. For this I run with a worked up charge of Longshot or HS6 when LS is unavailable, and JHP's. This is not a load combination for anyone searching for a light recoil target load though. LS is not a powder that can be manipulated very far down either, so I doubt this helps, as stated.

Mine are
125 gr. RNL 5 gr. green dot OAL,1.155
115 gr. FMJ 4.3 gr. W231 OAL 1.130
115 gr. FMJ 4.5gr. Titegroup OAL1.130
Works for me:)

Well I couldn't find a thread with only favorite 9mm loads anyway.

No biggie. Ask and you shall recieve:

I load and shoot a lot of lead:

115LRN- 4.0 of Universal, or 4.0 of 231, or 3.8 of Titegroup
125 LRN or truncated- 3.7gr of 231 or 3.5gr of titegroup
147gr lead- 3.5gr of 231

FMJ 130gr fmj- 3.8gr of titegroup
115gr montana gold fmj 4.7gr of titegroup.

I've tried many others but these all worked real well.

Welcome to THR!

My favorite 9mm loads are:

115gr FMJ 4.8gr Autocomp @ 1.150" (this is my most accurate load at 25yds, out of 8 shots 7 were X-ring 1 was 1/2" above that group)

115gr FMJ 4.0gr Titegroup @ 1.150"

115gr FMJ 5.4gr Unique @ 1.150"

I have some 124gr Berrys plated, just haven't done workup for them yet.

124/125gr LRN bullet over 4.0gr W231
124/125 FMJ bullet over 4.4gr W231

Both are at of close to the starting charge weights so they are not hard to shoot and both are accurate in my pistols. I do use other powders for more serious work but those are my 2 favorite 9mm range loads...

Unique powder, CCI 500 primers, various cases but prefer Winchester.
----- Plated and Jacketed 124 gr. RN FMJ bullets--4.8 grains of Unique for a light load that functions in all pistols and carbines. For a good plinking load that shoots well in all 9MM's with Unique---5.0-5.2 grains of Unique. Safe with all cases tried and oal's from 1.150-1.160" depending on bullet shapes.
----- With Speer 124 gr. Gold Dot HP bullets---5.4 grains of Unique for 1130 FPS with an oal at 1.120"-1.125"
-----124 gr. Remington Golden Sabers----5.2-5.5 grains Unique---oal 1.125" with 5.2 grains a mild load and 5.5 not quite maximum but you should work up.
Started with Unique powder and haven't been interested in changing. Just use a powder that will fill the case enough to prevent the possibility of a double charge. Number one rule for 9MM.

I have two loads I commonly use in 9mm Luger. The first load is a light recoiling, accurate load that works well in small frame pistols as well as larger pistols.

115 FMJ 4.6-4.7 W231 @ 1.125"

The second load is a "high-performance" load that really moves the slide on my steel Beretta.

115 FMJ 6.4 PowerPistol @ 1.125"

Hope this helps.

I generally load full tilt with longshot but worked up a very light recoiling target load a while back using 3.4 grains of clays and a 115gr hard cast from badman bullets.

I'm a bit of an oddball with my 9mm pet load.

150gr SWCs from Bayou Bullets over 3.0gr of W231/HP38.

Its a super soft shooter, barely cycles my action and pretty darn accurate to boot. A bit of a warm load (somewhat flattened primers) thanks to the bullets taking up half my case capacity but I can't go any lower otherwise it probably won't cycle.

I also occasionally do 147gr FN over 3.4gr and while it is a bit more accurate it's got decent amount more recoil and I like being skimpy on my powder since it's a bit hard to come by around these parts.

Welcome to the forum.

Im still looking for my go to 9mm load but I too am interested in seeing everyones. I will list the powders I ve used in my short career, 800x, Herco, Amer Sel, hp38, and zip. My favorite is zip so far I'd have to say.

My favorite 9mm loads are:

Cant wait to get my hands on some AutoComp.

4.7 grains of Universal with a 124 grain round nose bullet, 1.140-1.145" long. Not really hot but not soft either. Works in guns with factory fresh springs. I think the velocity is something like 1090 or 1100, I don't remember. It's worked really well in anything I've used it in.

124gr Xtreme HP 3.6gr Titegroup 1.120 OAL
147gr Berry RN 3.3gr Titegroup 1.115 OAL
I have HS6 and HS7 that I haven't tried yet

Thanks for all the input! Keep it coming... I love to hear what other experienced loaders like as I am VERY new to the reloading hobby.

For target & plinking;
115 gr. Berry's plated RN
CCI small pistol primer
4.3-4.4 grains W231
COL 1.130"

Shoots very tight groups in Beretta 92 FS and Taurus 709

124 gr. FMJ 4.4 gr. Titegroup for IDPA
125 gr. LRN 3.8 gr. Titegroup for paper
125 gr. LTC 3.2 gr. Titegroup for paper
124 gr. Rem. Golden Saber 4.4 gr. Titegroup for IDPA, paper, and Carry

Hey Kinbernut... What are your C.O.Ls for these loads?
