What's your "go to" brand?

No such enigma, they stand on their own individual merits. If you asked which ones I don't go to, it would be an easier answer. There are too many great guns to pick a single company.

Handguns: Glock, Ruger (revolvers).
Semi-auto rifles: Stag, Colt, Arsenal, Izhmash
.22's: Marlin
Bolt guns: Savage
Shotguns: Remington, Benelli.

Not to say I own all of those or won't consider anything else, but those are just the ones I tend to think of before any other when looking for a gun in that category. If I start wanting a particular rifle, then obviously I just want that one. But if I am thinking "Man, I kinda want something in .270", I'll go straight to Savage's website.

Revolver= Ruger or Smith
Bolt Rifle= Winchester
Lever Rifle= JM Marlins or Henry (Wish Ruger made an old time one)
Shotgun= Benelli
Semiauto Pistol= Springfield Armory XD or XDM

JMTC....

no one maker has my complete attention. When I was new to the gun world and knew just enough to get myself in trouble, I thought Smith and Wesson and Colt were the be all end all of firearm manufacturers. I have significantly changed my mind since. I still look at OLD Colts and Smiths, but they aren't in the spotlight.
Now days I find my self looking at a lot of Ruger products, and one that always surprises me that I am even looking at it is FNH. both are represented in my safe, Ruger more than the others. Some other companies that have my interest are LWRC, Dan Wesson/CZ, Weatherby, Magnum Research, and Freedom Arms. there are other random things but most of the stuff I want belongs to those brands. If I had to pick a go to brand though Ruger would be at the top.

Absolutely none. I will say I give quality national brands the benefit of the doubt.

Well, except for Remington shotguns anymore...

Autoloading 22's- Ruger

Autoloader- Sig

Revolver- Smith

1911's- No preference. Currently have Sig, Kimber, Smith and all function flawlessly.

Lever action- toss up winchester/marlin. Lately it's been Marlin.

Since we're at it:

Reloading gear: Dillon/RCBS

Powder- Hodgdon

Primers- CCI

Brass- Starline

This is not a be all end all as I consider any quality component. But if I HAD to choose one...

I guess my "go tos" are:

  • Semiauto Pistols = Glock
  • Revolvers = Smith & Wesson
If I want a new handgun, I check if one of these has one that meets my requirements first. Not saying I won't consider anything else but unless they don't have a model that fills the bill I'm most likely to buy one of these two.

For long guns I don't really have a go to and I don't think I've got two long guns from the same manufacturer. :p
